My wife and I were sitting at a hotel bar in Portland this weekend when I heard this song for the first time playing in the background above the din of the Saturday football games on the big screens. I recognized it as Aimee immediately. I love Her music. What a talented artist and songwriter.
Her voice/songs bring me back to my childhood & I still love her songs as much as I did when I was a toddler. I went with my mom to work every morning & almost every single morning she would play Aimee Mann’s whole album
That’s always the best feeling. When I was little we’d go to church a ton. Some of my best memories are ridding in the car and listening to the radio play 😄
This song always plays in the grocery store where I work and I never knew what song this was until I looked up the chorus. Now that I'm hearing it in full it sounds great!
Love love, love it. I never thought I would hear this under rated gem in public. It was playing in the bank. I just had to do the dance... I was escorted out. I swear that guy is 'Being John Malkovich'.
I remember hearing this on the bus rides growing up, just walked in cvs and totally forgot about how great this gem was along with Aimee. So refreshing. Man I miss my childhood
Thank you Aimee. Had the pleasure of seeing you in Austin and requested 1.0 is the Loneliest, and you sang it. Thanks for Everything you have shared, painful and with courage.
I've learned to never judge a song until I've heard it 5 times. I was lukewarm on Freeway too, but it has really grown on me. The simplicity, repetition, and the chunky guitar/bass riff are infectious. Right up there with my favorite AM songs!
Saw her do this while she was celebrating her birthday, playing on stage in her hometown. Her band just rocked the live tour of this album that night. Very special concert! Complete with vintage Hammond B3 organ with Leslie speaker!
Saw her last week in Northampton, MA during her X-Mass show tour w Grant Lee Phillips, et. al. Great tunes, great sound, great talent. It was good to see such artists still creating fresh work today (Aimee played Freeway at the gig). I remember seeing Till Tuesday and Grant Lee Buffalo back in the day. Till Tuesday: timeless songs wrapped in 80's pop. GLB: opened for Paul Westerberg and blew me away with their intensity. I'd never heard of them before then.
The new album is remarkable. Aimee, for a brilliant songwriter with some gorgeous albums, you've somehow made your best album so far. Just keep writing - and use that band. Your drummer is insanely good. And whoever produced this record is my new GOD. :-)
I liked it so much! Here in Brazil people should hear this song..."You´ve got a lot of money but can´t afford a Freeway"...special ! I´m thinking about playing "Freeway" on my guitar, thanks Aimee for this videoclip !
Great song, a great example of the perfect songcraft of the writer. Once the 70's synths hit, I was hooked! I also love about 2:15 how she is suddenly aware of the silliness that is occurring behind her and joins in!
I've been stocking/stalking Aimee for 30 years, 4 TilTuesday, 7 solo/live CDs, HouseOfBluesConcertDallas concert, and a 30x24 poster in my apartment. Shes always been a favorite artist of mine along with RosanneCash PattyLoveless among 600 other CDs.
GREAT SONG AIMEE! I've seen her twice in concert including here Christmas special. She's a rare artist who not only gets better looking with age, I think every album has been better than the last. Her voice is better now than when she was in Til Tuesday. Fantastic.
I just heard this for the first time sitting in McDonalds! Awesome song! I remember seeing 'til Tuesday in concert in Agawam MA back in 1987! Aimee is such a great songwriter.
I hitchhiked all over New England from Rhode Island to Gloucester Ma and believe me no one can afford the freeway. I had the truckers pick me up and wait for me so I could go on another highway. I smoked a lot and thank God never hurt. I love this song it makes me want to stick out my thumb all over again.
Awesome song....sorry it took me so long to find it. Definitely hitting on that Pretenders / Chrissie Hynde sound with the 70's-80's-esque melodic musings, but in the best possible way. You've got a lovely, detailed and sultry voice there! Sweet!
From commercial pop music of the early 80's controlled by MTV and big record companies to this. A singer song writer. I'm impressed. I remember listening to her with Til Tuesday. It wasn't bad at all. But this 45 year old is impressed with her new stuff. This is what happens when you take control and say "F' the music industry.
Absolultly Amazing Al most Dylan for sure. One of my top lyric In my Choice Californian Fan Magazine 2013. I like her voice and guitar Selection and Cars. Smooth Rich

I started work on about an albums worth of tunes when I was binge drinking for a few months last year, might be the best time to play if you ask me.
It's having the same effect on me...reaching for my six-string now.... loooooove Aimee !!! ♥♥♥

Man, I freaking love this song, and I freaking love Aimee Mann
One of her genius song writering classics. So talented!

I remember 15 or so years ago she held that cover contest for Freeway. I absolutely loved all the great covers. Freeway stands the test of time.
Aimee Mann is incredible ❤

I love this song. Such a great mix of sadness of pop.

One of her very best songs and that's amongst many great songs.
Never tire of hearing this song
love the people dancing in the background!
Love her...Aimee you have helped me through this darkness
She is just an awesome singer and songwriter. Very strong voice and also sultry.

GOD i love her so much she's helped me get out of many dark places
swim found her when they searched for 'calling it quits' unironically... what a find!
I have loved her music since the beginning of time!!!
Incredibly talented singer and songwriter. Aimee Mann is bae

This is the jam!! Amazing! It's the combination of the Pop instrumentation and your folk singers voice. Magic!
Tous vos albums sont Géniaux ! Love from France !
This is the kind of celebrity the world needs. Plain, and yet still beautiful.
That being said, I like it. The song is nice. Very nice.
Still loving this song in 2024

Aimee Mann rocks- saw her in Milwaukee a couple weeks ago. Love the new songs on @#%&*!Smilers.

Awsome singer. then and now. voices carry to freeway...she's special!
I love your style, the writing, music, person's for the camera... You're one of a kind :)
On a découvert Aimee Mann grâce à ce titre et l’album @#%&*! Smilers. Et on est fan depuis.
I had this on in the office today and someone told me to "turn that hippy shit down." So, naturally, I cranked this shit up.
never heard of her.. but she has a nice voice.. pretty good music.. she's worth checking out.
Love it!
The guys dancing in the back remind me of "Donnie Darko" somehow, when Sparkle Motion is rehearsing, slow motion...
😆😆😆
Great Song ....
Aimee is one of the most inspiring people to me , love youuuuu and your incredible music !
i love your voice, i saw your show in buenos aires and it was amazing...
this is a badass album god damn
I was this day old when I found out how amazing Aimee Mann is!
i don't think there is another musician that has the presence of Aimee Mann.
Check out Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein.
And another thing, it's a crime she didn't have children, of her own birthing of course.
The more I think about it, the more I think she's a star seed. 👽
@@bonsummers2657 that’s a weird comment.
She is amazing. She makes me cry. Just looking at her. I mean. Really cry
Love her voice.
Great song , Great video. It gets stuck in your head like a loop.
Her songs always sound so fresh. She's just ahead of her time.💛
Might be my all time favorite song !
Its 2020 and it still fits
Great performance in Amsterdam last monday! The song is great!
The road to Orange County leaves an awful lot of leeway. Use it.!!! Marvellous, mind-bending, ..., ...mine .Thank you very much Aimee!
song makes me happy, I'm feeling it aimee!
Great sound. World Cafe classic back when David Dye was host.
Wow she looks awesome. Great song as well!
Best female artist out there!!
I never heard of this artist. But maybe because I never listen to country music.
Wrong
I could make a case for Lucinda Williams although Aimee is probably a better singer; love this song!
same here. i listened for the contest, gave up on the contest, and consequently now I can't get the song out of my head!

certainement une des plus talentueuses chanteuses actuelles!
Brilliant - still great
It's been 23 years since I've last liked an Aimee Mann song. Not an all time great, but a nice song. Good for her.
Good song. Like it.
First time poster, long time listener.
Aimee Mann's Freeway comes out the gate like Phish's Llama off Picture of Nectar.
Check out more at Last Added.
Terrific song on so many levels. It should have been a bigger hit.
Why doesn't this have a million views???
It does.
Exelente tema saludos desde Chile
No comment. Your song is in my soul always. Save me, kill me - I'm yours Aimee.

Happy Birthday beautiful songtress Aimee!!
Love the Wiltern show. Hope to see you perform again at the Hollywood Bowl. You are such a talent.Randy
idk why but this video always makes me feel happy
you are an amazing artist
A winner
I'm always on those LA / OC freeways (405-22-91-5-101) and I'm Goin nowhere - love Aimee Mann
Wow, I just assumed this was an existential song about relationships. So much more appreciating this is about a city with poor infrastructure.
