- Hello, in this video we will be taking a close look at a March of 2005 issue of Ranzuki magazine. Ranzuki is a gyaru/gal magazine which is a subculture that so far had reached its height of popularity in the early 2000s. I don't know Japanese so sorry if I'm completely wrong about some of the things I'm talking about!❤❤❤ Theres lots of vibrant styles in here and everyone looks like they're having a lot of fun :) (at a certain point in the video the picture quality is weird, i'm not sure why but it goes back to normal after about 10 minutes..I think it was the lighting) thank you for stopping by- I hope that you have a relaxing rest of your day or night :) ❤❤
“Girls having fun, wearing what they want, and focusing on having a good time with friends” is such a good description of Gyaru culture! I’m a young Japanese and Gyaru fashion pretty much ended when I was little, but I think it was one of the coolest fashion trends❤

@@jurey_they are but it’s not as common to see them around as before, gyaru gals are still around but just not as much as it was in the 2000’s.

@@jurey_the subculture now being a niche lifestyle, gyaru brands have discontinued and most gals coord their clothing with whatever they can get their hands on. its not the same as the 70s-late 2000s
Can anyone be a gyaru? Like race wise..? I've always wanted to be a gyaru but be respectful because I didn't understand it but the style! If offended you I'm so sorry!
Gyaru is such a fascinating topic! It was started by teen girls as a counter culture against traditional Japanese beauty standards and social expectations for women. The “ideal” Japanese woman is supposed to be pale, black-haired, submissive, modest, prudish, and quiet. As a rebellion, gyarus had spray tans, flashy makeup, bleached/dyed hair, promiscuous outfits (for Japanese standards haha), and were loud, vulgar, confident, and more overt in their sexuality. They found confidence in themselves and their sexuality while rejecting the outdated notion that women exist to satisfy men. They dressed for themselves ❤
This is probably the best description of gyaru i’ve seen, and i’ve been gyaru for years. 🩷🩷🩷
Probably why they stopped reproducing in Japan. Women became more independent.

Well Gwen Stefani was heavily inspired by Japanese Harajuku girls for a while, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Paris Hilton got her style from the Gyaru girls

@@YvieT81I doubt Paris Hilton copied them - it was most likely the other way around since she was always tanned and blonde. Especially since she also appeared in quite a lot of gyaru mags like Egg back in that day as inspiration. Gyaru fashion and look (blue eyed lenses, tans and big blonde/highlighted hair) is essentially taken from the west especially US from the 70s onwards

The school-gyaru uniforms are definitely my favorite part of the video and they were also my favorite part of mid-2000s Japanese fashion. Ah, if only I could go back (or at least afford to buy these old magazines).
You should do one with a “cure”/“キュア” magazine!!! they used to make visual kei magazines featuring visual kei bands and styling tips for visual kei coords i believe!

I absolutely LOVE gyaru and jfashion! Gyaru and lolita are my favorite fashion styles, for sure. Guaru was so cool in 90s and 2000s, I hated when it started to look more simple and toned down. Nowadays only EGG keeps this actual gyaru vibe, Popteen (my favorite magazine in the past, specially in the Kumicky era) looks just like a regular simple fashion mag nowadays. 😢 I even imported some mags from cdjapan years ago, and I still love them. Great video! ❤❤❤❤

OMG!!!! I remember the late 2000s and early 2010s and finding out about gyaru, I miss this fashion trend so much, the hair, the outfits, the decoden and cuteness overload.
I cannot tell you how grateful I am that this video was in English. Not only because I listen to ASMR with the sole reason to keep my mind busy by paying attention to something, so I don't have brain power to be anxious. But also because this is actually super interesting! 😂 I have absolutely no desire to dress like this, but it was fascinating to see, and I am glad I didn't have to miss out on the narration. i call this fashion style "limited too core" if you know you know , crazy how similar the fashion is here to how i remember 2005 middle school in america
the whole point of gyaru is to like “rebel” against the typical japanese “style” i forget the word but like for example instead if pale skin they wear tan skin
I worked in the fashion industry for a bit, and I bet limited too looked to gyaru and Asian fashion back then for their 2005 style... I notice in general the majority of the US is about 6 months or more behind international trends as we are following their trends.
It's funny how these are all pictures of younger women and they remind me so much of my mom, she used to dress like that 😭

Hi! I enjoyed this asmr especially as a gyaru myself but there's some misinformation in the beginning. A lot of ppl think gyaru emerged in the 70s as a jean brand of the name GAL(which I believe whatever source you used was mentioning) was created then but it's actual origins was during the late 80s with its predassessor being called 'bodikon' before emerging as a fashion subculture in the early 90s with the emergence of Namie Amuro. Once again i enjoyed your asmr amd I appreciate your love for galculture
