Saw grandpa Jones sing this on heehaw ole granpa can do this good too love brother Oswald laugh sounds like the gohst in that song monsters Holliday by Buck Owens
The harmonica player is Jimmy Riddle who was with this band for decades. He became more famous on Hee Haw doing the eefing version of scat singing with Jiackie Phelps doing knee-slappin hambone routines., both rural traditions.
From the Kate Smith Evening Hour in April, 1952 - great fiddling from Howdy Forrester and harmonica from Jimmie Riddle! Thanks for posting this wonderful moment in country music history - wish we had more of it today!
I never realized that was Mountain Dew was actually whiskey. At least, i think that this is what the song implies. If so, how clever to name a bubbly, lemonade soft drink, that had a good caffeine kick in it (much less than Red Bull, tho’) “Mountain Dew.” LOL. Nice performance! Thank you for posting it!
At first it looked like Os was playing a Gibson banjo, but the inlay pattern looks like a Vega. He had a bunch of banjos. It was hard to keep up with them.
Isn't the guy playing the upright bass guitar the same one that played it on Flatt and Scruggs? It looks a lot like him, but just a glimpse of him is all I can see.

Mountain Dew was and is still considered slang for moonshine the guys who made MT dew said it taste like moonshine if it had sugar in it
From what I have heard, the soft drink, "Mountain Dew", was originally made as a mixer for moonshine, hence, the ,"Mountain Dew", moniker.
@@jamiebaker5265 Oh….It would be good as a mixer with whiskey…
