I really like the Trucker's bucket. It will allow me easier gardening after my surgery this next Tuesday. It has taken four months to finally find live cells to correctly identify the cancer. May God Bless you and Mrs. For all you do to help me have fresh foods to eat and help in my healing process. Hugs and Love
I introduced Leon's buckets to my friend who lives in Northern Florida about three years ago. He's had great success with them. He's now raising cauliflower, broccoli and tomatoes in his early spring garden. He hand trucks them into his shed when the nights will be close to freezing. When I call him, I always ask, How's Your Leon's Doing?
Just found your channel. You remind me of my granddaddy. He wore overalls everyday and his good ones on Sunday. I miss him. Thank you for taking your time to make these videos. May God bless you with many, many more years.
This is soooo cool. I've never heard of truckers bucket but what a great idea. Leon you're the best. Love the 'I don't want that ugly thing on my porch' 🤣🤣. God bless 🙏 ❤
I love this guy; miss my Dad and he reminds me of him. Love his videos. solution to a problem is the answer; instead of worrying about our future.... God Bless.
LEON for President! you make a heck of a lot more sense than any politician! i just found you and i knew after listening for about 3 mins that your my man for gardening! THANK YOU!
Cannot thank you enough for your videos Mr. Leon! Just got my shipment from y'all!! Miss Joyce was ever so helpful and kind. Your written instructions for the mineral tubs/5 gallon buckets was very clear, as well as the instructions/amounts for fertilizer/amendments. Love the trick with the dowel rod(s) as well! May God Bless you and yours!!! PS: Used the local High School for large cans to prepare the tub bottoms. Worked wonderfully! My Nepjews have become "Leon Converts"..👍😂
I have watched several of your videos and always so impressed by your knowledge and ideas to make wicking buckets. Sadly where I live in Australia I can’t find those wonderful cattle lick bins you use but have applied your technique to use in my patio raised beds America is so lucky to have you. Thank you
I so appreciate your gardening information, wicking bucket guides and the blessings of the Lords word. I am new to gardening and found your methods very simple and easy to understand.
When I watch him I can't help but smile. What a jewel of a man. Thank you for taking your time to teach the rest of us deplorables how to be smart and grow our own food.
Oh my gosh, I just found you yesterday.. been binge watching the container wicking process you came up with since then. I had just put 3 holes in the bottom of my first bucket when I stopped to get advice from utube gardeners when your videos came up. I am convinced your way is best for me. I Thank God you are determined to get this technique out. I am an old woman trying my hand at my 3rd garden. I think your advice will help me succeed!!!
Just wanted to pop on and thank you for your videos. I have made several of your planters now. I love them. My next project is hopefully a high tunnel.unfortunately I can't afford to buy one, but hope to build at least a small one. It won't be as good as a pre-made tunnel, but maybe it'll work for a couple years. Well, anyway, thanks again for all your wisdom. You're a true blessing.
I had 2 barrels and bought 5 more so will end up with 14 planters in total. It takes 2-3 large bags of potting soil which is a bit expensive. However if you use them for 10 years and get a crop every year, this method is priceless! I also had 2 pretty pots I converted into flower pots for my wife, Happy Wife Happy Life. Lol! Thanks for all you do!
Thank you thank you I am a trucker will use this thought I had to wait till I came off the road in 2 1/2 years but starting my garden when I get home memorial weekend
We fill the bottom of our containers with twigs and small logs. The first year they save us on soil and allow water to sit in the bottom, but by year 2 they've turned to compost and added to our soil - we dump the planters into the compost pile and start over.
Hello! Just found your channel and i love it thank you so much for doing this. Im on the boarder of Texas , Okl near Durant would love to stop by and learn more .parents owned the BBQ place in Antlers for years just wondering about your location . I see the 580 area code.
Leon, I first want to say a big thank you, fantastic videos!!!! Regarding frost, what might you recommend. I am concerned the water at the bottom will expand when frozen, causing the plastic garden pot to crack. I was toying with the idea of putting a plastic lining loosely inside for the water to go into but defeating the purpose of a sealed container. Thanks again for posing your video recommendations, have been a huge help!!!!!!!
I loved your video! You've just answered a TON of my Questions/Problems. I've been wanting to do some container gardening, but didn't know how to get around these problems. I will definitely be calling you for the information/picture on the fertilizer you talked about.
hey Mr. Leon;;; you have a few years on me;;;It appears you took better care of yourself than I have;;;;lol;;;;Thanks to you I can still grow a few crops;;;;Never did enjoy hoeing da maters;;;grew up about 8 miles from Luckenbach Tx. 2 to 4 acres of maters for market and lots of hoeing weeds and goin to creek fillin 2 55 gal drums with water and taking back to field for watering;;;;i enjoyed that because i got to drive the old truck;;lol ;;;anyway;;;; keep em comin;;;; enjoy all your vids;;;;there is nothing fake about you sir;;;lots of your fellow tubers use little caption tricks to get viewers to view only to find out was nothing but advertising like McDonalds, or any of the burger chains showing pics of their large plump juicy burger only to find when it comes out in the wrapper it don'' t look anything like da picture;;;;kinda squished; in da bag with other items;;; ramblin so i off;; keep em comin
I garden full time Mr Leon. Im fighting breast cancer and im teaching my little 4 year old grand daughter to garden. We want to make some of your tubs. We are in Texas and surrounded by ranchers but those tubs must be made of gold....no one will sell ANY and i get crazy looks when i ask. 😆 Apparently they have them refilled for the cows.
Are 50 gallon barrels available in your area? The blue plastic ones. Most of them are food grade probably last a lifetime. Get those around $10-12 make at least 2.
Quick suggestion regarding the landscape fabric to cover the ends of the pipe: Cut square pieces big enough to completely cover each exposed end by 3-4", and then use plastic zip ties to secure them over each end. Those long plastic zip ties are inexpensive, quick, reasonably durable, easy to use, easy to remove, and don't block drainage holes in the sidewalls of the pipe like tape might.
Hey Leon, I was able to see how much water was in my tub by poking a stick down into the soil, I just used cans in the bottom but ya trying it out. I've got 3 pineapples tops im trying to growing in one tub!
Leon, if you sell these already made up I will drive to you and buy some! I don’t own a drill and finding tubs is difficult. I have searched on Amazon but they are expensive. I want the larger tubs..15-30 gallons, perhaps. I live in Edmond, OK.
I enjoy you and your channel very much. I buy potting mix that states it feeds for 3 months. I'm doing the 5 gallon wicking buckets. When should I start adding fertilizer to my watering? Thanks for all you do .
❤❤❤❤❤❤awesome videos. What’s best way to grow in 5 gallon buckets. Do I need to drill holes in bottom of them. Or can I put a milk jug in it and a 1” pipe in jug for watering and drill hole in bucket 2” from bottom.
For the trucker bucket what about the 1" air gap we are suppose to keep to prevent the roots from rotting. Should we fill the bottom bucket 1" below the top bucket to keep the air gap? Thanks!!!!
What keeps the dirt from going under the 3 gallon bucket when placed upside down and how does it hold the water? I assume a few holes would have to be drilled into 3 gallon bucket to allow air flow as well although Leon doesn't mention that. Do you also still add a pvc pipe down into the dirt for watering?
I watched a video by Arms Family Homestead. In it he said he knew you grew potatoes in your wicking barrels/tubs. I was looking for a video on how to grow potatoes in a wicking system and can't find one. Do you have one or can you do one, please.
In all of his videos that I've watched, it appears that the general procedure is the same regardless if there are tomatoes, lettuce or any other crops in the tub. My bet is that the procedure for potatoes is the same, but I'd also like to see a potato-specific demonstration. Growing in these buckets probably makes harvesting very easy.
I wish I could!!! I have been looking for those containers for a year or so . I tried FB and market place, Craigs list... can't find the buckets in my area. Or People hate me and wont sell to me lol.
Men like this should be our national treasures.
Amen!!!
100%!!! ❤️
I agree
Men like him ARE national treasures! Just the public is unaware.

I need a price list for your greenhouse kits, and for built onsite. I can’t wait to try both self wicking and hydroponic gardening!
On the small buckets, that has no lid, it doesn't need the little holes drilled in?
Thanks bub!
I wish I could!!! I have been looking for those containers for a year or so . I tried FB and market place, Craigs list... can't find the buckets in my area. Or People hate me and wont sell to me lol.
Thanks Leon
Can you show us a flower pot one all done step by step
Do you suppose to pull the pipe to stretch it or leave it constricted?
Can coconut coir be used in a self wicking container ? Or does it retaining too much water itself to do that ?
Can I get the list of fertilizers that go in the wicking tube? Thanks
Do flowers use the same fertilizer as vegetables?
If you taped the fabric to the French drain, what kind of tape would you suggest?
So the liquid fertilizer will wick up just fine with the water? Non of it will settle?
Mr. Leon, do you recommend the first watering in of the tub from the top be with your 1 teaspoon per gallon fertilizer mix, or just water?
