As a former Chase bank employee, i wholeheartdly agree with this initiation because the things i have heard like people not being able to read a statement or not understanding how posted or pending transactions work are insane.
Debt is profitable to the banks, and as long as both sides of the government are corrupted by bank "donations" they won't allow a curriculum that teaches kids how to be financially safe.
Most of us knew things cost money because mom/or dad was always "I don't have money for that" lol. I think when kids get jobs/or financial aid parents can help them better navigate finances. Many of us knew about budgeting/credit cards but just were irresponsible to do it. At 18 we were like I'm grown and can do whatever I want with our money. So i think if parents worked together to show guidance and hold kids accountable it could help tremendously. This could be checking kids bank account balances and statements and not always giving in when they say they're short on money. Many of us as kids(teenagers/adults)would go spend our money on material things and when bill time come, we're asking our parents for help. I see it now as I'm older that the kids you always bail out, they will continue to be irresponsible because they know they have you to bail them out.

Love it! Best way to impact the next generation is to teach them the right way young. Very young! Thats the key.
