    nice build, love the primer red, custom battery pack, I'm trying to make similar on recumbent although removable for charging and light undpowered cruising, having it all integrated makes more sense,
    how it run on hills, where I live equal parts hills up, down & flat, needing 60km uphill range, pedal the other two thirds, is that doable @ 20kph, thanks for great vid,

    • @jumbleblue
      @jumbleblue  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's definitly doable. grin tech has a simulator tool on their website. you can load your route via google maps, chose one of their motors, select battery pack and it will calculate how much energy you will need for the route at a certain speed. www.ebikes.ca/tools/trip-simulator.html

      aoora I have a question about the process of the fiberglass frame you did. So you filled the hole with something like foam, filled in all the places that could make air gaps, then did the resin and fiberglass? I'm going to build one like yours, I just can't seem to figure this part out.

      It works very well. Very very powerfull. at high speeds (50kmh) I can do 60km. At lower speeds I could do over 100km easily. My top speed is around 80kmh. But I never do that. It already is the "raw video" because it was the timelapse mode from the iphone.

    that's one massive battery! what's your top speed and how many miles/km can you go on a full charge? ?

    • @jumbleblue
      @jumbleblue  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is massive indeed. 1.6 kwh. The top speed with seriously far to violent and fast pedaling is about 60-65km/h. Without pedaling but with a throttle it should do 70-75 kph with a full batterie at 74-80ish Volts.
      As for the range. It depends. My way to work is about 32km. I can go both ways at 45-50kph and have still 1/3 capacity. I go never slower than 40, even uphill, it can do any hill at 45 if I pedal enough since I have no throttle, but it multiplies just my pedal power by a given factor. As for my route: One way is more down, the other way more up, totaling to about 150m difference in height. So, I guess it would do about 90km at 45kph in a mixed terrain, but I never went this far. At "normal" speeds like 20-30 it would probably do 200k. But this thing is so powerful, its very hard to go bellow 35kph...

    80km range? Only from the top of Mt Everest with those batteries:) Lucky to get 20km WOT distance in my experience. Swap the yellow and green phase wires, that will get it going.

    • @jumbleblue
      @jumbleblue  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In fact I do my way to work with it. It's 60km. I have an average speed of 45km/h and I come back with well over 30% battery left. The way to work is 150m down, and then 150m back up.
      1.4kwh is a LOT of energy for an ebike. If I'd go at normal ebike speeds, like 20-30 the range would be over 100km without a problem.

      I use the charger from Grintech. It's very advanced and I suspect longer battery life because of that. However cheaper chargers will do too. tinyurl.com/glpdryk . I got the batteries from a chinese company called "EVVA TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD" the batteries seem original panasonic. I trust them. The price is ok too. But you can get the cells from AliExpress too. My battery is very long range even at high speeds (50kmh) I can do 60km. At lower speeds I could do over 100km easily.

    • @SCM
      @SCM 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, 20 inch wheels or frame? Anyhow. The top speed is determined not only by the motor, but by the combination motor windings and battery voltage. You can simulate different motors/batteries for a given route here www.ebikes.ca/tools/trip-simulator.html that way you can find out if motor/battery will give you the desired top speed.

      The battery is 2kwh made from 160 original NCR18650PF Panasonic cells. I payed 2.5$ per cell, plus shipment, bought 250 with shipping for 800, which gives me 3.20 per cell, which is pretty low compared to prices I found on the Internet. This boils down to 320$ per kwh, which again is a ok price in 2016. So with Nickelstrips and all the battery was around 550-600$.
      Since I used a rather powerful motor and torque sensor the E-bike components came to about 1200$. Plus the bicycle parts, but I lost track there. Whole thing was probably 2500-3000$ or something.

    Fiberglass process? I'm doing the same build.

    • @jumbleblue
      @jumbleblue  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd recommend to first build a wooden skeleton frame within the frame of the bicycle. Basically a triangle made out of woodboards which have the width which the box should have. Then use fiberglas matts and epoxy to bridge the gap from the wood boards to the bicycle frame and give the whole thing the shape you want. You could also use 2k foam to fill up the gap, then cut it in shape before applying the fiberglas mats. It's up to you if you do the lid for the box on one side completely with fiberglas, or if you use a plastic board on both sides. In a second build I'd use plastic boards or readymade fiberglas boards instead of doing it myself.
      The wood panels which give you the skeleton frame would optimally have an L-shape cut into their edges so that the lid would "sink into" them.

    With your batteries, the biggest problem is power to weight which is why this tech has been delayed.
    Using 18650 you are packing in more casing than charge. each cell's case not only puts gaps between the batteries where there is nothing there but also gives the battery more mass than charge capabilities.
    On top of that the weight to connect them together, all that wiring or plating.
    Try Gel Cell. You can get them in Li-ion, the following link is for the standard gel cell's

    safer and better to buy a ebike battery made in a professional battery factory like the ones that make bus batteries. if diy users make mistakes with 72v batteries assembling cells or do it wrong it could be the last thing they ever did.

      It's certainly safer, but it is also a lot more expensive. In this custom shape especially expensive. It would cost 10 times more. Furthermore security can be learned by DIYers too. It's certainly good to have respect, but it should keep you from it.
