At that time, Georgia was a tributary state to the Mongol Empire, so, apart from paying a tribute, Georgians had to fight on the side of Mongols upon request. The Mongols assembled a huge army and marched toward the city of Baghdad in 1258; the Georgian King David VII, also known as David Ulugh, "David the Senior" in the Mongol language, with a small Georgian army was part of the punitive campaign. It`s said that the Georgians overshadowed even the Mongols in savagery, putting to the sword the denizens of Baghdad indiscriminately. The Arabs annexed Georgia back in the 7th century and managed to maintain their rule for four centuries; up until 12 century. They devastated the Georgian Kingdom on more than one occasion.

The destruction of Baghdad annoyed Berke Khan (cousin of Hulagu) of Golden horde who had became Muslim. Hulagu and Berke had some border and economics disputes. This pointless destruction of a city added more to the dispute.

This video was amazing as always, though I can’t say the same about this chapter of history. The Fall of Baghdad saw the murder of tens of thousands of people, the unprecedented destruction of a city, its monuments, institutions, art, and books, which when discarded into the Tigris, infamously made the river run black with its ink. "Mongol Destruction by the Mamluks" is going to be a good one, keep it up!
Mongols saved Mamluk from the Mongols 😐
Mamluks only defeated small garrison of the Mongols
@@Orgil. They still had many battles and tried to avenge the mamluk loss. They couldn’t win
@@Orgil. have you forgot mongols tried to fight the mamaluks many times after and kept losing to the point they wanted to convert to Islam lol
@@Orgil. The Mamluks defeated the Mongols 4 times before finally losing to the Mongols during their 5th battle.
@@fin5494 after that though they beat the mongols Atlest 30 times
Stunning historical facts ! I have read about the Mongols and Gengis Khan. They were brutal and had a dangerously strong army. I really appreciate your video. I love History and is among the best historical stories I've heard for some time now. Well-done.👍🏽
They were not as brutal as British empire or islamic invaders.
@@phoenixj1299 words, Mongols never meddled with other nations religion or their society system, they were never forced those who conquired to learn Mongolian language, or subit to their religion, one of the best empire existed on this planet.
@@Oreosmilkshake Of course. Also they didn't colonise other lands like British. They didn't live in luxury by extracting wealth from invaded countries and sending them back to their country like British and other Islamic invaders.
@@Oreosmilkshake was the Mongol stronger then the British empire
@@Cripsandbloodsareselloutscompletely different times so we dont know. The brits at their peak used guns soo... but the mongols were one hell of an empire
When you see the map at 1:00, it really makes you wonder why the Abassids were as confident as they were.
@@youaintready1006 likely weren’t aware of the size of the empire. Nice username btw
The sound design in combination with the artwork is majestic, this Mongol series really grew on me :) History Dose is probably the most captivating history channel I know of, not gonna lie...
Awesome as always!
They way you describe events is so engaging compared to other history channels!
Can’t wait for more!
This is just so so so well done. I also cannot believe I have never heard about this just absolutely insane and tragic historical period. Love your use of quotes-at some point I think many here would be interested in your research process! You turn what must be hours of research into such a compelling story (and of course the artwork is simply stunning). Felt my stomach literally drop when I saw the Mongols from the gates. All the best and thanks for what you do! Can't wait for the next one.
So Beautiful this Story I can not help but admire the Viciousness of Hooligu
I’m really glad to have found this channel! The script, reading, art, music & sound effects all blend superbly to create a truly gripping retelling of these stories.
So many other historical channels fail when the narrator has a bad voice or poor reading style. Everything else could be perfect - but if the narrator’s voice is bad the content is unwatchable for me. Your voice is excellent. 💯
I use your story telling as references for my speech classes. Absolutely incredible!
Wow. Retelling a historical horror story without flinching. Had read about it but this dramatic presentation really brings it home. Subscribed.
It wasn't a horror story. They had discovered so many things in Baghdad if the Mongols didn't destroy it completely they would misuse the knowledge and discoveries to forcefully spread their religion in the world. They did so but not on a large scale due to lack of technology.
The music is precisely at point, great work.
I want the sequel - this is so well done and I LOVE the artworks - we NEED A LOT MORE OF THIS in HISTORICAL DOCUMENTARIES!
5:20 That.... is gnarly.
I really hope you do more of these videos mate, THIS is how you tell a story!! More Mongols please!
Not to mention: "bodacious" !!!
The sound effects literally gave me goosebumps. The portrait of hulagu and othe characters of the story made this so real and terrifying. I felt like I was there! Amazing work, I applaud the effort you put into this and your narration is makes the delivery of the story remarkable. I salute you and look forward to future of your channel! 👏 👏
It's funny how I find this one of the most horrifying episodes in all history and yet feel compelled to listen to every new retelling of it.
bro, your channel is damn underrated, the art, music, everything is on next level! I could watch it all day long!
Fantastic work as always. You guys help bring history to life in the new 'dark age' we live in where history is forgotten.
damn, actually became a bit emotional by the Mongols disregard for human life. The artwork, music and quotes really makes it emotional
@C Hahahahahahahahaha lies, but there are people who care about their people and they are not free, and he is the son of Genghis Khan. He used to say that there are important and rich cities, why should we destroy them?
The best of this channel is the soundtrack, pictures and storytelling
I abosutely love this channel!!! And please, I want the continuation of the Mongol incursion in Egypt.
What an amazing video, very well illustrated and narrated. I have subscribed for more like this.
Secondly, holy shit! Can you imagine being a soldier having to face the terrifying brutality of the Mongols?
What can man do against such wreckless hate?
As an artist I'm so impressed with the images that you provide with your videos. Do you do them yourself? They're gorgeous and set the perfect atmospherics for the narration.
Is it AI?
The channel description says his brother is an artist who does all the artwork for the videos.
keep up the hard work man you are doing an awesome job this video was put together very well!
5:21 I absolutely can't imagine such a sight honestly made me felt hopeless and terrified and that's before the storm
we NEED a playlist of all the soundtracks used in the videos because they just too good!
Atrocity seems too inadequate a word to describe this. There are no words that can convey the extent of this brutality.
The Mongols did spare the Christians of Baghdad because their relations with Christians were friendlier.
Hulagu Khan's wife Dokhuz Khatun was a Christian.
Unfortunately centuries later, Timur would come and commit a major genocide against the Assyrian Christians of Iraq while sparing the Muslims.
Thats why i love Amir Timur he made Nestorians extinct in central asia
