Thank you so much for an amazing video. I recently bought a Duomatic 80 knitting machine and my first successful knit is this beanie. I tried it once and I got it right the first time. You are an excellent instructor. God bless you for sharing your videos.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Your instructions are thorough, precise, and easy to follow. Your videos are well made. The key moments are always well framed and in focus. Longtime Passwords users often take a lot of shortcuts in their demonstrations, which don't help beginners. Your method makes sure beginners will have a strong foundation. I look forward to learning from more of your work.
Hi Alex, there is a fault in the description! Step 13, rótate the racking handle to the left, until it is again in the highest position, otherwise the needles are not opposite to each other! Thanks a lot for your great descriptions , they helps a lot using and understanding the Passap duomatic 80. Best wishes from Germany Doro 😊
Thank you so much for your helpful feedback! I really appreciate you taking the time to point out that mistake. I’ll make sure to correct it as soon as possible.
Could you knit the rib for socks straight then transfer all stitches to one bed. Then use the garter bar to transfer half the stitches to the other bed opposite for circular knitting in stst?
Absolutely! You can knit the rib flat, then transfer all stitches to one bed and move half of them to the opposite bed. After the transfer, you're good to go with tubular knitting.
Great question! You can't knit ribbed fabric in round because the rib has to be knitted using both beds of the machine. So you have 1 knit and 1 purl stitch alternating on both sides of the fabric. I have knitted a hat in round, but it is in stockinette stitch - th-cam.com/video/VnspoGc_Wy0/w-d-xo.html . It's ready to wear after you get it off the machine. Also, this seamless reversible hat may be better if you don't like the seaming part - th-cam.com/video/UMC44__1-B4/w-d-xo.html . Neither of these hats isn't ribbed. Even if you try to knit circularly with the needles arranged in 1:1 division, you won't get a tight rib. It's like a slip stitch resulting in a mesh lacy fabric.
@@ArtOfClay Thanks for the response. Here's another one for you: Is there anything a circular knitting machine (sock knitting) can do that the Passap cannot? I have a Passap but am fascinated with a circular machine as well.
Hmm... Some of the circular sock machines (CSM) have a ribber attachment, and this makes it possible to knit rib in round, but they have a limit with the size of the knitted piece. As long as I know, there are machines with fewer needles and others with more needles (for the different sizes of socks), but I am not sure what is the biggest thing that you can knit on them. Probably you would be able to knit a scarf, socks, and tubular panels for a blanket, that you have to seam up by hand, and maybe a headband, and a baby's hat. The plastic ones (ADDI Express) are bigger, but I haven't seen any of them have a ribber attachment. They knit only stockinette stitch, and If you want to knit rib, you have to manually latch up every other stitch using a latch tool. I also want to buy a CSM, just for fun, but I couldn't find any offers that are close to where I live. To my knowledge, there is no aspect in which the sock machine exceeds the Passap. Passap has unlimited capabilities compared to ADDI and CSM machines.
If you set both locks to CX, you will create a mock rib that lacks elasticity. With the CX setting, all the needles in working position will knit, and the needles out of work will slip. This machine is not capable of knitting true ribbing in the round. For ribbing, the needles need to be arranged so that one knits (let's say on the front bed) while the next purls (on the back bed). I have a video explaining this in more detail if you’d like to check it out: th-cam.com/video/4EQB9MNLF-8/w-d-xo.html
