Just got my big boy license, and I’ve just took ownership of my 2020 1200 iron sportster, with V&H slip ins. Now seeing yours. I want Biltwell Windows!
@@karimhemdan01 I know I’m kinda late to the convo lol but highest is 80 in the United States I believe. The freeway going through Utah has a max limit of 80.
Hello mate, I brought one yesterday in the red, it will be a week or two before I pick "Slim" up. I have gone for a Stage one with the Short Shots (Stock pipes!! I don't think so). Gone for a set of Pillion pegs & the Badlander custom seat as the Missus likes to go for a blast now & again, but most of the time I'm solo. I think the Badlander seat will throw me back further on the bike so hopefully a bit more of a stretch to those mid controls. as you mentioned feeling a bit cramped, (I do prefer mid controls, not keen on the forwards with the wind whistling up your trouser leg, besides after a while I found that forward controls kill my back as you can't transfer your body weight through your legs it all goes through the base of your spine, but each to their own as they say). I'm also 5ft 9" so I will let you know how that feels. My Last three bikes have been black, so I fancied a change (Hope I still count as a real biker now I have parted company with the black paint lol). I started my Hog ownership back in 2004 on a 883 Sportster, then another seven Hogs over the intervening years getting bigger models each time, but I have just off loaded my 2012 Street Glide & I'm back on the old Sportster. Gone full circle!, always had a soft spot for the Sportster. Your great review of the Iron 1200 helped me make up my mind to go for it. I will be watching what you do to your 1200 Iron with great interest all the best. Regards Mark.
Very subjective indeed by I think the perfect Sportie for me would be the Iron 883 in denim black, Evo 1200 engine, 48 rear shocks, 48 front end, 48 Special bars, 48 seat, forward controls - congrats on the new bike!
Thanks again for a wonderful vid. Yours is the channel I tune into for one of the best perspectives on hd. Always great watching your videos and your enthusiasm is inspiring. Respect. Also I ve subbed your channel. Keep up the good work. The iron was always my fav bike. All it lacked was performance but now with the 1200 I think it’s got wat this bike deserved.
Got to admit he made me feel anxious watching him ride on the left side. 😅 i own a 2019 XL1200NS myself but in twisted cherry and it always gets me going. I have a habit of hugging tight corners and this bike handles them. Once got pushed into on coming traffic during even rush hours and had to dodge three cars coming head on before I was able to get into the right side of traffic. The bike handles well especially in urban areas as it was intended i imagine. Once a month or so ago almost got rear ended by a city bus who was riding my ass in the city and made a hard right in the alley because the bus wasnt stopping managed to make that turn with just a scratch on my pipes along the curb. This bike is light in the driest conditions it can really lean almost as much as any sports bike especially on those flyovers. The bike is quick but not too fast. Wheelies are a bit harder to do because the throttle is forgiving but with adjustments and will it can be done. Great bike if you want a harley but arent into baggers or want that bobber look. So customizable it has to be one of the most common bikes i see in Austin TX aside from triumphs in the city. Great choice if you are a student. parking is easy and it is a great feeling to park your bike closer to class and bolt off if you happen to be running late. Cool video review dont see many like this. Id love to see you do one on a 2020 Lowrider S!
Love the bike, good choice! I'm a Sportster fanatic & ride a 1995 1200 which I love but may be ready soon to upgrade to a more modern Sporty. Look forward to seeing what you do with it, good luck!
Good to see you back on a Sportster. I love my Sportster too. I want to get a 2018 Softail Streetbob but i wont get rid of my Sportster to do it. It will just take a bit longer to get there. Glad the Sportster 1200 Iron won the vote. Keep making these great vids :)
Talking about the aftermarket parts for the sporty. I bought a 2o2o iron 883 as my first bike and in 3 months I’ve put a windscreen, sissy bar, luggage rack, crash bars, swingarm bag, new clutch lever and turn signal relocation kit, and spent about $500, maybe a little more? If I went all Harley for that stuff it would easily be $1,ooo and more likely $1,5oo-$2,ooo.
So excited about this and looking forward to seeing what you do. I am on a street 500 and was planning to upgrade to a street bob but increasingly wondering lately whether a sportster might be better... for many reasons including $$$
Good vlog again Mark.perhaps if the special was de chromed I would choose the 48 .just love the fat front tire style beefy look .and may be a cherry tank aswell.cheers.
Motonewbrider .currently riding a dyna street bob which I love but you are right I miss my sporty a great urban brawler .your video is making me want another your messing me up ha ha .sporties are much more fun .wish I could afford to have both maybe one day
Iron 883 is far better looking (I know, that’s subjective) but it’s just so damn badass whilst also being timeless yet classy. This new 1200 looks a little artificial to me. More glossy components, the AMF paint does nothing for me, the new headlight cowl looks cheap, and the mini apes look a little out of place (though I’m sure they’re more comfortable). It just feels like it’s trying to hard while the Iron 883 seems like it just knows it’s cool. If I had the engine and gearing of the new 1200 in the body and style of the 883, I’d be a very happy man.
Great review, this video is one of the biggest reasons why I am choosing the iron 1200 as my first bike.... what gloves are you wearing in this video man they look great! Thanks
12" Z bars. I have to confess I'm more a fan of the 1200 Roadster with the larger Harley tank. I rode a Sportster in the 80s - had to get my fillings checked the next day.
Nice one! You can tell from your enthusiasm in the review you were going to get the Iron. Great choice, can’t wait to see the customisations take place! Keep the vids coming! Love it 👌
LOL, i've know for quite a while that the 1200 iron was on the cards. Super excited to make the changes - should be able to get a vlog out next weekend about the first changes.
perfect timing was waiting for someone to do a review on this bike with short shots i pick mine up next week cant wait...cheers for this review....also can you recall what it was reving at in top gear at 100kph/60mph???
Interested in a bit of opinion for an experienced rider but new to Harleys... Since interested, I have been surfing a lot for info (almost OCD) before finally going to a dealer. They had a lot of different Sportster configurations (almost all seen online) so I sat...on all of them! In the end, I had the best feel on a 48 that had drag bars and forward controls. I'm 185cm (6 feet 1inch) so the controls weren't far. Used to sport bikes (and dual sports, and supermotos). Something also to do with the rake given by the smaller wheel (tried the same controls on an Iron). If purchase, would be swaping the tank!!!!! :p I will try the bike of course, but would it be the correct choice for someone that has never ridden a custom bike? (oh, other question: is the optional HD thin leather seat mounted on spring a torture or reasonable? Felt pretty hard...) THAAANKS! You got me to looking at these bikes more seriously, like your videos!
Mate, configurations of the bike can throw people off what they should and shouldn't ride. As you mentioned the best way to understand if the bike fits you is jump on it and see how it "feels". I personally owned a 48 with forwards and drag bars and i loved that position, however for some it can create stress on the lower back. But again you always should revert to what the riding position feels like for yourself. Just make sure that you are able to do some good miles on the demo's before you make the final choice. For example at Shaws (where i do all my reviews) they sometimes lend the bike out for the full day to the rider to help them form the right choice. The standard HD seats are mounted onto the bikes rather than spring for example. Again it's all practice to see which one feels the best - but remember there is always a sacrifice between performance and aesthetics. On my sportster 48 I had a super low profile seat that looked amazing and suited the bike however it only had 1 inches of foam. Keep trying the bikes mate and you'll make the right choice.
Thanks for the advice! My dealer seems quite laid back for test rides! Most others dealers (japanese and italian) you have the feeling you sign a contract to sell your soul if there is a scratch... HD was like: sure, grab the keys! What? Paperwork? Nah I'm cool... :p So guts and feeling it will be! (there was an awsome Night Rod Special...but I want a Sportster to ride slower! )
When I bought my Iron I did it blind folded, without having ever riden one. I came from naked/sport bike/motard and at first glance the forward control was bizarre, I couldn’t even understand what to do with my legs! Haha afterwards I changed to central controls as I’m short, put mini apes and a roughtcraft seats. Just buy one and a set of tools and customize it yourself, there’s plenty of aftermarket parts and always people willing to buy your spare ones. I would only choose wise the tank size, because the peanut 8l tank is ridiculous, part of your life is going to be in a petrol station
Since my post I ended up going to the dealer and test ride a 48. Even though I also have the problem of not being used to putting my feet at the right place, forward controls is the configuration that works best for me. I am not worried because I would get used to it, just like when I go from sport bike to supermoto. I totally agree for the tank capacity!!! Test ride was brilliant! Wasn't expecting such an easy ride! Engine is awsome, fun enough and very forgiving on low rpm. Totally convinced: I will get one...
Hi from Australia friendo, Been watching you recently on yt and honestly, you are a huge reinforcement of my decision to get into the world of freedom machines. My wife and I are in the process of selling up and buying a new house and fitting a bike in the garage is a definitive priority for us despite not actually owning a bike as yet. I'm very set on this. I just want to thank you for providing simply the best content for me personally as I plan on purchasing a sportster of my own. I was settled on a 48 and look forward to the day I get to put my money where my mouth is and purchase. But the way you've presented the iron, I'll definitely keep it under consideration. Thank you. Sincerest thanks for sharing your passion with us and I look forward to your progress with the new freedom machine. She's going to be amazing!
Just got mine and love it! I bought the white. I'm 5'1" and it fits me great, flat footed. Came off a 1200 low and the Iron 1200 is so much more fun and agile.
Michael Dauffenbach Yeah I guess, but I would need to wait and see what kind of custom jobs people do to them..... I love the denim black bobber style myself.
I just got mine a month ago. The rear suspension bottoms out on the hwy and in the city. I have no choice but to upgrade. Seriously. My bike is great. But the seat and suspension 😏
Congratulations on your lottery win mate - I'm guessing it must be something like that anyway....because I've been following your stuff for a couple of years now and you must have spent enough on mods to have bought a couple of additional bikes by now, and HOGs are not cheap?
Yorkshire Pudding you’re right they are not cheap especially for what I would class as a fun toy to ride 6 months of the year with our weather. Not sure if you saw that I received the ambassador role with shaw but that explains a lot for the sportster and future bikes etc.
Sporty lovers should by one of these new 1200 models by next summer. I'm pretty sure these will be the FXDLS of the Sportster line as Harley winds down Sporty production in 2020... PS: 13:39 rattled my Yankee rafters, looked like a head on in the making o.O Darn you wrong side of the road riders :P
I actually think this could be the last new production sportster that HD do as well. New model release announcements should be later on this year so i'm curious to see whether they announce a change to the sportster family range.
Aye mate, great review, I have the Iron1200 with Stage One, V&H Short Shots and Heavy Breather, just wondering how much mileage does your Iron 1200 have? I topped up couple days ago and went short riding today and the fuel lamp turned on the freeway! Filled up over 8 litres full tank....
even with the upgrade I put on, still 95miles? Or will it lower the distance? I used to own the Street500 and that baby goes 2 weeks with a tank full and I use it daily for commute from home to work and back... I know that 1200 vs the 500 is a lot but I did not expect it to be gargling on fuel this much :-) Thanks anyways mate, your reviews are awesome!
So how does it compare to the big twin for power? I understand the improved power to weight ratio but is that enough....personally love the 1200 iron...feel in love with it straight away but I'm concerned about the lack of power....i am small though haha
I'm new subscriber here and I have a Q .. Why you don't replace the front tire of the 48 instead of the 1200 front tire .. I know this sounds crazy or awful question but I believe it will look so good ..And Don't laugh at me, please :)
Congrats!! Love the 1200 and a great review. Your enthusiasm is spot on and what riding a Sportster is all about. I went with Todd’s Beater Bars (10”) on mine and that are the perfect height and a narrow bar as well. Check them out.
awesome looking bike, but single seat rlly? you cant pick up girls with this beast bike? and only 12litres tank? so this bike is for alone riders for coffe on the corner street or what? is there any good looking harley davidson for long trips double seated under 14k? because i cant find
Was talking to a guy from the UK last year in Punta Cana. We were talking about motorcycles, he told me he has a Kawi 1400. I told him I have a Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob. He told me I must like the wind blowing in my fanny for riding an HD 😂
I don't get it whats with the tiny tank, ugly brackets, exposed wiring? Are they using up old stock? No offence intended but it looks like Harley sacked the styling dept and just dropped left over parts on it.
When I bought my Iron 883 brand new in 2011, the Nightster 1200 was £2k more expensive than the Iron 883. At £500 more than the Iron 883, the Iron 1200 seems like a bargain.
I'm thinking about the classic paint job now. I can build a few different types of Harley's. Mult way. But the classic paint job would be really cool to give my nephew.
Markito Duby I feel the same way. I just picked up this model in Twisted Cherry. That color doesn’t have a heavily contrasting graphic. It’s basically maroon on maroon. So I could live with it. The 48 looks so much better, but I don’t think it’s worth the increased $$
they need to cancel the street shitter line...offer the 500 and 750 engine as option in the sportster, limit the 883 to the iron model and cut 3000$ off the price.
Just got my big boy license, and I’ve just took ownership of my 2020 1200 iron sportster, with V&H slip ins.
Now seeing yours. I want Biltwell Windows!
The vance & hines exhaust sounds gr8!
That was a great review!!! Very entertaining and informative! I always enjoy hearing feedback from riders in the UK. Great job!
The Iron 883 has the looks, it always needed that 1200 though. Best choice :)

Tempest what kind of custom jobs are you referring to? In regards to the motor?
Michael Dauffenbach not the motor I mean physical mods like chopping the fender, dropping the rear end
Tempest gotcha, this is still based on the good ol Sportster framework. Almost any part that has fit into one on the past 10-15 years will still fit.
Really tempted to get a 1200 06 sportster when I got the cash :)
Hey Motonewb, like the shirt you're wearing . What brand is it , if i may ask?
A Rational Gentleman ASDA mate!
Looks can be deceiving! haha thanks man
Can't wait to see what you come up with.Make it your own and ride it like you stole it.
That's the plan buddy :)
The 1200 has the sound.
I sat on one and the seating position is very neutral compared to the 48 special. This would be even sweeter with a Roadster Front and rear suspension
Jason Tubalado not sure buddy it should achieve 95 miles on one tank.
even with the upgrade I put on, still 95miles? Or will it lower the distance? I used to own the Street500 and that baby goes 2 weeks with a tank full and I use it daily for commute from home to work and back... I know that 1200 vs the 500 is a lot but I did not expect it to be gargling on fuel this much :-) Thanks anyways mate, your reviews are awesome!
yeah man 2017 back in the day
I’m back on board, this was a sharp presentation on all levels!!!
BOOM! Nice one Donaldson.
such a great video
One of the best reviews I've seen so far. Thanks dude!
Should I get it for my first bike??
great video!!
Hector Acosta thanks man
Nice bike, ludicrous handlebars.
Please do a stage 4 if it exists. Thank you.
Sticking a turbo on, like Fast and Furious style!
Are those V&Hines slip ons or a full system? If I missed it I apologize.
So how does it compare to the big twin for power? I understand the improved power to weight ratio but is that enough....personally love the 1200 iron...feel in love with it straight away but I'm concerned about the lack of power....i am small though haha
Cannot wait for the mods to begin....maybe chrome it up a bit!!
CHROMOSEXUAL :(
Is the Transmission gear ratio the same setting as the 883 Iron. Shorter than the standard gear ratio in a forty eight for example?
"Searched up ASMR, this popped up."
Sin-Mods ha ha! “DO IT WITH DAN”
I would love to own the HD 1200
AMEN. ♥️
70 to 75 mph with ease and very comfortable 👌
could you compare the 1200 vs the yamaha bolt im really curious how this will turn out
is there a passenger pillion that would work with that cafe solo seat?? i have the same seat on my 2016 48..
honestly not sure on that option. It would have to be a separate unit (pillion section) and I personally haven't seen one for this seat option.
yes you can buy a seperate passenger seat for the bike, same as the iron 883
I'm new subscriber here and I have a Q .. Why you don't replace the front tire of the 48 instead of the 1200 front tire .. I know this sounds crazy or awful question but I believe it will look so good ..And Don't laugh at me, please :)
you dont have a dyna anymore?
How old do u have to be to buy one
Mmm I love it
me too.
Motonewbrider makes me miss my old 07 Nightster. Perhaps I'll pick up an iron 1200 next year.
Congrats!! Love the 1200 and a great review. Your enthusiasm is spot on and what riding a Sportster is all about. I went with Todd’s Beater Bars (10”) on mine and that are the perfect height and a narrow bar as well. Check them out.
I’m wanting to swap stock bars out on my 14 iron .... hmmmm
How tall are you?
I went with the 883 because we couldn't get around the tank. That tank is SO hideous. Tank swaps are a big deal, apparently.
awesome looking bike, but single seat rlly? you cant pick up girls with this beast bike? and only 12litres tank? so this bike is for alone riders for coffe on the corner street or what? is there any good looking harley davidson for long trips double seated under 14k? because i cant find
Was talking to a guy from the UK last year in Punta Cana. We were talking about motorcycles, he told me he has a Kawi 1400. I told him I have a Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob. He told me I must like the wind blowing in my fanny for riding an HD 😂
May I ask how tall you are?
sorry, you mentioned it at 7:38
I don't get it whats with the tiny tank, ugly brackets, exposed wiring? Are they using up old stock? No offence intended but it looks like Harley sacked the styling dept and just dropped left over parts on it.
Have you ever rode a proper carb harley?
No fella, never had the opportunity.
that's a shame, go to some MAG rallys & ask for a go on someones one day! you never know you may end up riding a pan?
Needs the the roadsters front end...
More Roadster videos
Really like the 1200, but I hate that graphic
Markito Duby I feel the same way. I just picked up this model in Twisted Cherry. That color doesn’t have a heavily contrasting graphic. It’s basically maroon on maroon. So I could live with it. The 48 looks so much better, but I don’t think it’s worth the increased $$
Quale la differenza tra le due?

I luv those mini apes
Stick a moustache bar on, there - you got forwards !
That's a cool bar! I've chosen the bar already and I think most will like it.
Jax Teller bike?
😍😍😍😍😍
they need to cancel the street shitter line...offer the 500 and 750 engine as option in the sportster, limit the 883 to the iron model and cut 3000$ off the price.
People in UK really ride that slow? 60 is slow right?
