Thanks demonstrating the Turntable. I have only discovered Rail speeder & NARCOA recently. Nice ditch lights and use of tool box. Appreciate your narration and sharing the information.
I must say that Rail Speeder is a beautiful piece of form and function and the turntable is so awesome. Cheers to the railroad for their cooperation. The video was fine just needed more of it :-) Thank You
During the 60's I worked for HBC Northern Stores along the main line through NW Ontario I road in one many many times, they would give me a lift between Armstrong and Auden . We called them Jiggers, the CN signal maintainers rode them. When we had a train coming there were spots we would pull handles from under neath to lift and turn the Jigger to pull it off the rails.
Neat story. This particular car was built in 1984 according to the data plate inside the cab. I heard they were called Jiggers, also pop cars, rail cars and other names. Check out another of my videos for a quick clip of it being turned, along with one being turned the way you described.
It would be helpful to give viewers some information on possible sites to purchase a rail inspection car like yours. Doing your part to promote the hobby of rail speedster car ownership. Very nice piece of railroad history you got there.
In Ost Deutschland bei der Deutschen Reichsbahn gab es so ein Fahrzeug auch. Heist GKR1 (Schienentrabi) mit IFA Trabant Motor. Danke für das tolle video
Very interesting, especially with a Trabant motor in it. I'm guessing it was 2-cycle? Check out my other videos for rail speeders with 2-cycle motors in them. Thanks for watching.
very nice video. I'm in Newfoundland, Canada. We have same car CN # 146 63 but for narrow gauge former CN Railway here. We plan to get our Beaver Car up and running again but it is missing its engine. wonder is there a way you can send us some pictures underneath of the car or any drawings. thanks. Steve
Check out my other video "Detailed walk around of a Beavercar Rail Speeder". It probably has some information that will be useful to you. Glad you liked the video.
If you mean the rail speeder itself, most of the time we do not. Reliability issues. There are times when we will manually activate the gates/signals with special equipment but that is rare too. Thanks for watching!
I want to build a speeder but don’t know where to run it or proper person to contact ? Any suggestions ? I have all of the parts needed including the cab , engine , wheels w/ brakes frame material welder and seats . My dream would be to travel as far as Arizona , Washington , Texas and New York . I’d make it big enough for 2 people to sleep in it and eat along the adventured route !
I'm going to start saving up for a speeder, for the clubs where you run then on an excursion do you have to be a certain age, by the time I get one I'll definitely have a driver's license if that's of any importance
What is something like yours worth? I’ve seen the older ones that have the wood poles for doing the strong arm and back turn. Yours looks really comfortable
@@rdg2124 could you give an average price for someone that would like to get into this hobby from the motorcar to the trailer to haul it to any and all safety equipment ?
@@Retired88M It all depends on the condition, size and mechanical worthiness of a particular car. The hobby is not for the fiscally challenged but not one that requires piles and piles of money. Figure on spending around $7-$8K for the unit (either getting one cheaper and then making the needed repairs), add around $2.5K for a trailer, then you need a tow vehicle, you'll want extras like a two-way radio, perhaps in intercom system, PPE, stuff like that. Round number maybe approaching $15K but I know people who have gotten in for much, much less and others who dumped way more than that into just one car. As with everything, prices vary according to the desirability of the unit and what's available nearby. Check out narcoa dot org for more information.

Interesting stuff Bud!! Never knew about the turntable!!☺
Thanks. They are very handy and this hydraulic one is top of the line.

Glad you enjoyed it and perhaps when Winter breaks I'll be able to shoot more video.
That turntable jack would come in handy if you got a flat 😂
Sure would!

Just saw you in Laconia today. Awesome work with this speeder!
Yes, that was me and thanks for the comment.
Now that's a hobby and a half really nice
It sure is.

That was amazing, thank you for showing it to us!
You bet!
Thats cool, never have seen one of these before, the C&NW always used pickup trucks.
C&NW did have motorcars, just a long time ago. Thanks for watching.
@@rdg2124 C&NW must have used them before my time.
@@markdanielczyk944 From what I can find, they fell out of use by the early 1980s.
@@rdg2124 Never saw them on the Harvard Subdivision NW of Chicago.
The speeders look like a blast!
@@markdanielczyk944 They are lots of fun.
That is one cool ride you have !
Sure is
what a cool way to travel !
Yes, it is. Thanks for watching.
I would redesign it to rotate on the track like how those kabota excavators do with their tracked bases if you know what I mean
Interesting
The only thing missing is Buster Keaton.
Oh, he's watching.
Great job you did 👍
Thanks. It's been a good performer the past two years. Thanks for watching

The best way to get around town
Sure is
Just curious, do you set off gates and signals when you go through a crossing?
If you mean the rail speeder itself, most of the time we do not. Reliability issues. There are times when we will manually activate the gates/signals with special equipment but that is rare too.

“ You can hear the warning light”
🙄Well, I guess it's better than seeing the warning alarm?

Best place to start is narcoa dot org and look around for homebuilt speeder specifications. Thanks for watching.
Your best bet might be a hi-rail pickup truck and add a camper body to the bed

Is that car a hydraulic drive?
Thanks for the ride.
Yes, it is. You're welcome for the ride
@scottluther2091 It can get rather noisy at times, the whine that is. Thanks for watching.
Para conseguir uno....autoarmon? Me interesa
They are usually available on the web with a search for rail speeder. Thanks for watching

Interesting! But video is so jiggly that it’s a bit hard on the eyes. Suggest using a gimbal.
