This was a really good book. It was really nice to hear about Jim and Mary's time together. This was the person that Jim really was. Such a shame he left us at such a young age.
@@duckbrew It could be possible or he exaggerated the truth. After reading it I did a search on Mary and found the one and only interview she gave in 2005. She has been divorced a couple of times and never really got over Jim just like he never got over her. He tried to get back together with her and she always told him it wasn't the right time. I believe they truly loved each other but were young and made mistakes like we all do when we're young. She could have made a lot of money if she had written a book but to her the time she had with Jim was special and she wanted to be respectful of those memories and of Jim.
Just read this book - couldn't put it down. What a wonderful memoir, and probably the best insight into who JDM really was, before the fame and booze took their toll. Billy lived my fantasy - I'm from Toronto too, my parents were in the charter travel business in the early 70's, when I was spending a lot of time in Clearwater Fla (as a toddler). So many coincidences, and it's such a great story. Bill has led a charmed, wise life. Thanks for posting this! Wish I could have a beer with him.
Billy, in the book the final chapter of Mary's life was incomplete, have you ever discovered where she went after Valley Village Trailer Park ? Where she buried today ? Etc. ? Thank you.
With no aspirations as a singer, that is why Morrison started out singing with his back to the audience. Crazy how life took him on the journey that it did. With geniuses however, they are so intelligent, that they can't truly cope with "normal IQs" so they have their own escapes; drugs, alcohol, sex, etc. He was a tragic soul. Back in the 90s, when writing letters was the thing, I communicated with Danny Sugarman, Densmore, and the witch who claimed to be his wife. Back in the day, when you bought a book, there was a mailing address on the back that you could contact the author. So I did. Where are those letters now? I wish I knew, they would be worth a fortune in a historical aspect. But it was a fascinating trip that I will never forget.
If he was looking to milk it,he wouldn't wait till his 70s to write the book. How much time does he actually have to enjoy the royalties? He could have cashed in during Oliver stones Doors movie. You're dead wrong on this one
People suggest the motive others have which are the motives they would have in the same situation. So you would milk it for all it is worth jackypatterson! So stop your cynicism and actually read the book before inane comments are made. There is a movie in the works based on this book as well.
@@SirCamsmorethanalot Jim spent some time with Her..however they were very, very young. Did she not become a go go dancer while Jim was on his way to super stardom?
Mary Werbelow, Jim's first and true love. He could not have her. Met Pam later but Mary was love of his life. Read the book, it is great and explains all this not written about before cuz no one was this close to Jim just before the beginning of the Doors. Bill and Jim slept on roof tops and crashed at friends in Venice Beach.
No, Mary passed away sadly, and her treasure trove of Jim's letters, etc. was lost to her ex husband, who likely threw it all away. Mary had a sad ending, reduced by a chemical sensitivity condition, and she refused all of Billy's help once he managed to find her decades later.
@@ChorusArtists - I just recently Googled Ms. Werbelow and only found some old information that she was living in a trailer park, in California. You are way more helpful than Google. If you are correct, then we have lost a treasure trove of history. I appreciate that she wanted her privacy, but still there is so much that was lost, with her no longer with us.
@@chrismcdowell7138 She wanted Billy to have it, according to Billy. But he wasn't going to just load up her memories in front of her, he was still hoping he could help her. So when she died, Billy wasn't alerted for quite a while, by which time Mary's ex had emptied out her trailer. No one knew his contact info or last name.
@SirCamsmorethanalot I'm sure that other situations influenced his songs, not just Mary. Besides, he changed or added to the song The End in the Summer of 1966.
Imagine being served coffee by Jim Morrison as much as he could be an ordinary guy he definitely was Guided by some Supernatural destiny
He was just an ordanary guy......have you watched the video ?

Did you have any doubts at all while reading the book that this guy made the whole thing up? just wondering..

No. The Doors or Jim Morrison estates would have sued.
Highly doubt it.

I was reading a small chapter a day. Such a magical read.
I had tears in my eyes at the end of the book.

Robby K the bad member interviewed that song was written for his girlfriend.
Which was Mary, not Pam. He could not have Mary. Pam filled part of the void. Most of his songs were inspired by Mary such as The End (my friend).
Robbie wrote the song about his girlfriend/wife.

What book is it?

Why weren't they together for life then?
Great question! Everything is in the book. :)
Jim and Pamela were together for life. Mary was a teen romance, that's all she was. She is not even mentioned in all the Doors books I read.
