Sup gramps. You are a wealth of knowledge, like how you skipped sitting in kayak. I could never do it cuz I'm terrified to get in a kayak😂, even before became disabled. And I can't skip, just got first 2 baitcasting combos late this season lol. I'm practicing off front deck trying to get casting down. 1 combo doesn't even have line on it yet lol. Glad you are happy with new rod. I'm just finding out rods come for specific fishing. Ty tc
@@Oldbasshole Ty. I started trying to skip with my spinning combo for frogs, this year getting good, once in a while it skips into a bush😂. Atleast can save my frog lol. Will try a worm and a creature bait, didn't think of that. Thanks again
@@ronaldyeater3322 I skip a wacky rig under overhanging brush/trees when shore fishing and docks when out in the yak . I really need to practice with my casting reels though lol
@@FishinwithGRAMPS I wasn't sure could skip a bait on spinning combo sitting in chair but kept at it with frog. Will definitely do with worm or creature bait👍. By opening season I will be able to cast both baitcasting combos I'm determined. Right now have 1 reel dialed in doing side casts. Had to make bunch of adjustments over the years but I became a better fisherman. Ty
Aw c’mon now. Not another rod I’m gonna want lol. Although…. Do need a rod for the Shimano reel…… no no no I’m gonna behave. Still want a dobyns lol. As always thanks Gramps!!! (Finally got lost rod in as well. Soooo pretty!)
If it’s anything like his skipping rod for the Daiwa Tatula Elite rod. It will be a great rod. I have his Elite 6’9” skipping jig rod and it’s one of my favorite rods for skipping docks from a kayak.
@@tyiazzetto4454 i love it too. Even though it’s just an older Zillion with the Tatula Elite name on it. Same action, same length, just a different color. I’m not complaining it’s a great rod but I noticed Daiwa does this alot lately.
Speaking of that shipping I’ve had the same thing happen more than once, go figure?? I like Lew’s rods and reels and have a few of each. Great unboxing, nice rod!!
When I first saw this reel, I was like this is a gimmick because I can skip with a regular reel. But my buddy picked one up on an open box deal and I will say after trying it, it did work really well. I'm thinking about grabbing one myself down the road but will see for sure. That rod looks great as well.
Yeah, I can skip pretty much everything because I've done it so long, but I can see having quite a few of these reals because realistically, it's economical to not load up a bunch of fluorocarbon when you don't have to for jig, texas rigs, etc.
Need your honest opinion....I am about to purchase either this rod 6'9 or the Dobyns 610. I don't mind paying the extra $70 if you think it's a better rod? Great video's!
I have been able to skip for a long time so I don't have a favorite, they will both get the job done. If you prefer cork or Winn Grips, that could sway you. I do know Dobyns are on sale at ALFC and you can always use code GRAMPS10 to save on either.
@@FishinwithGRAMPS now I am even more on the fence. I love cork, but I love my Winn gripp on my Lews mag light reel. I just wish Dobyns was not on back order.
Was there anything with your Dobyns skipping rod you didn’t like ? Can you ask lews if there is something they use to preserve the Winn grips , in my experience they break down and crack overtime . I haven’t bought lews rod in years , the last I had broke very easy , I love their reels but I was wondering if there rods have improved . Thanks for the videos , can’t wait to see on water footage vs the Dobyns .
Loved everything about the Dobyn's rods, definitely keeping them. Will loan a few to my brother for the season while I test out some other brands during the season. I'll ask Tom to see what he can tell us about preserving the Winn grips, that's a great question! You'll get my full review of the rods at the end of the season.
Hey Gramps, looking forward to tonight.👍🎣
Heading out to Lake Mojave and Colorado river @Bullhead city and try my Hammer hope I have reception tonight and thanks again Gramps 👍🎣💙
Nice looking rod looking forward to the reviews!

Try skipping a worm on a spinning reel first . It’s just like skipping a stone .

yup, I learned to skip with a spinning real, throwing flukes and tubes.

New ability unlocked, skipping from a kayak....way to go Gramps! Mad skills 👏
Thanks 👍
Came to kick it with Gramps haha
This combo has been on my radar. I could definitely see it being next on my list. Can't wait to see how you like it.
Sweet set up gramps 🔥
Great review, Gramps. I have a KVD rod. Love it

Won't using fluorocarbon on a frog affect you action and hook up ratio?!?
I'm only using #50 braid these days for froggin/punch mats
Have you got a chance to try Andy Montgomery’s bladed jig signature series rod gramps ??
yup sure did. It was okay, hookup ratio was good, probably one of the few of the Lew's Pro Series that I really liked.
@@FishinwithGRAMPS oh that’s awesome! So would say that you like the st. Croix more?
