Thanks John for green lighting beans, mushrooms and purple sweet potatoes! I’ve been Vegan for 9 years and have been trending towards more raw but going fully raw seems too restrictive. I’m gonna shoot for 75% raw this year. I’ve got my J2, my dehydrator, my sprout station and my pressure cooker ready to go! Thank you for the realism and the inspired raw vegan content! HNY!
Hi, John. You made lots of great points- some organic beans added to a whole foods, plant-based diet are a good thing I personally use. I ate raw foods once for a year many decades ago. I was super strict. Then I added some cooked foods and was a vegetarian for a few years, then became a vegan with both cooked and raw foods, organic grains, lentils, nuts and seeds, juices, smoothies and salads. That is the way I eat today. I watch some raw foods channels and enjoy them, too. I have seen over the years that raw foods proponents often flock to warmer or tropical climates. I think the macrobiotic concept of yin and yang grains and vegetables, cooked and raw is a good balance. Eating only raw foods is a super yin diet. I have watched certain influencers eat loads of fruits and melons, slacken their intestines and have a bit of a belly from time to time, regardless of how much they exercise. Some push their exercise program hard, add in saunas, slim a little and even can develop 6-packs, yet from time to time develop acne, which is a sign the intestines are weakened and the eliminative system is a bit weak. They offset this by going excessively into self care with all manner of skin care products. Also the macrobiotic people eat based on the seasons and climate. Sure, one can eat predominantly raw foods living in a tropical climate and do well for a while, maybe a long time. Is that all based on raw foods? I think not. Most of such all-raw people add concentrated plant proteins into their smoothies which I do myself when I make smoothies. Those I add have about 50 nutrients, including a full range of vegetables, fruits and herbs, not only 3-4 plant proteins. I would wager most popular influencers of raw foods will never again want to be without added plant proteins once they have added them into their diets. One way to see the effects of their diets is to simply look backward at their videos over the years and notice: overall body shape, puffiness of face or breakouts causing excessive external 'skin care' products, in women, are the breasts always pert or are they sagging indicating their lymph systems are clogged from way too much yin foods slackening intestines and causing constipation? Clogged lymph causes acne. If the organs of elimination such as kidneys and bowels are clogged, where do we see the wastes exiting? The skin and breath. If the 'raw foodists' compromised and ate some whole grains and beans they would be able to live in and enjoy any climate zone and not need to run to the sun. For the average health-minded person or family, who is living anywhere, in any weather, a mixed diet of some cooked grains, beans and vegetables along with raw fruits and vegetables, juices and smoothies is a winner. It keeps us warm in winter and helps keep us regular and our skin clear.
You went from raw to rawtill4 style. That’s awesome 🤩 both work well. I find everything works better when I do just fruits and non starchy veggies personally, but whatever works for you.
I eat 80% raw. Beans and tofu are an exception. Occasionally some vegan sushi. Like to eat warm bean dishes in the cold winters here in the Northern Hemisphere. If find if they are well cooked they do not give you gas.
According to Ehret, you don't need to eat all raw. What's important is to make sure you are not overloading your system. Fruit does not overload the system nor eating little. That's why people in Okinawa live longer. They have the same benefits of a frutarian eating cooked food in small quantities. "Hari hachi bu" eat to 80% full.
Hey John - love your videos/knowledge! Regarding store-bought beans as opposed to fresh cooked after sprouting....I've heard beans not consumed after the first day of cooking lose pretty much all nutrients and become starch. What's your opinion? (I really want to eat store-bought for the convenience so I hope you have time to reply)
High starch foods like beans and grains are the main constipating food categories IF eaten incorrectly. Generally, if they are eaten hot right away the time they are made, they will be constipating because one would not be able to masticate properly the food in a state like that as high starch food require strong saliva secretion. It's better always to let the cool down and become firm, eat them cold.
I am high raw but I learned a few years ago that grains/beans/lentils digest better when cold. I thought I was crazy believing that but my digestion tells me different. I also believe that eating hot cooked food in general reacts differently in my body than cold cooked. I NEVER have issues with constipation and hot beans/lentils have the OPPOSITE effect on me lol
Hey John, yes I make all types of beans with one onion, a lots of ginger and one garlic. Other than that 40 ounces juice and my recipe smoothie. I’m doing 1000X better.💪🏽
I love all beans and make a huge pot of a mixture of garlic, onion, celery, lots of tomatoes, many herbs, chilli some oat milk...every pot always taste different 😊 But at least 3-5 days a week there's a meal of my "bean stew" 🥰
Beans are one of the few cooked things I eat. Especially chickpeas I often add to salads. I’ve had no digestive issues with them and they don’t make me feel sluggish. Plus they are cheap!
I'd say definitely try spouting them first, sprouted beans in a salad with a hearty dressing can be amazing. I like mung , eaten before the tails get long, soya and aduki too😋😋😋
I would prefer to buy dry beans and soak and cook in the instant pot, over buying canned beans. However, if canned BPA-free beans are the best you can find, I have eaten those in a pinch.
QUESTION PLEASE! 🍀 I love beans, cooking them is time consuming. So sometimes I either cook them or buy them in bpa cans or in glass (much more expensive), I never tried these you have here in the video, because I always thought how come they can stay fresh there without any preservatives? Not sure what material it is, but if there is no salt and nothing else, how come they can really stay fresh in those packaging? Anyone can answer that for me please as I always avoid these to buy.....I always thought maybe there is something else there they do not tell us???
I think he should eat whatever he eats without entering to other people's businesses. If it works for him great, everyone is just experimenting. Maybe in a few years he will come back with a video " why I don't recomend beans anymore ". People should not recomend things over the internet but rather say this is what I eat and it works for me, try it and see. This full of entitlement like what I am doing is great and everyone else is doing it wrong is dangerous.
Any tips how to tolerate beans? I react with tons of gas to even 1 bean on my plate 😢 Any tips ? Mostly Raw vegan here (with steamed veggies once in a while)
I was sprouting mung beans which caused gas. Then when I blended them that solved the issue. Maybe try blending them into sauces and dips to get the gut flora used to breaking down the new kind of food, it takes time to adjust.
not sure, gas from 1 bean!!? I would normally advise a tablespoon on day 1 and gradually increase a little each day over 3 weeks. It has been a very successful method allowing the microbiome to adapt. Light coloured beans are easier to tolerate.
Chickpea is very hardy if sprouted, not delicious and I feel yes, constipated after it and inflamed. But when I pressure-cook, its ok. Sprouted beans contain lots of lectins and other harmful substances that cause inflammation.
I recently saw a video from the real truth about health conference that stated lectins in veggies are only harmful IF you have an issue with lectins. However they said IF you don't issues they have necessary nutrients. What tests does one ask for to know?? or symptoms does one have If sensitive to lectins?
@@acera2043 She is following doctors that spread misinformation like Gundry. These doctors should be in jail, so I would ignore her comments. Some people haven't done enough research to break out of their ignorant bubble.
I support this, we shouldn't be so dogmatic, restrictive, and unrealistic. I was sprouting mung beans and fenugreek, but the mung beans would cause gas, so I blended them which helped digestion. I like beans and lentils though, so will not exclude them forever, just for now as I'm staying totally raw going through some detox healing stuff with my nostrils the past year that swells up worse in different spots, even ulcers like a pimple if I eat cooked as it clogs up the blood and lymph channels. When I stick to all raw, with lots of raw the symptoms are minor or nonexistent meaning the body is detoxing the waste internally rather than swelling in the skin so much and sometimes breaking the surface. But when these symptoms are done I will have some cooked foods here and there. It's just the detox symptoms would flare up with each cooked meal as my body wants to clean out old waste. Health depends on the level of burden we impose on the body, and a more cleansed body can deal with the waste produced from digesting cooked foods more easily, and that is not the same as a toxic person gorging on bad foods who only feel no healing symptoms because they are clogging up their bodies backlogging their waste unable to be cleaned out.

Rinse the canned or packaged beans in water; it gets rid of the salt. Rinse 3 times in a strainer
Have you contacted to ask if what type of water like tap or filter they use in the paper carton? :)

@Rawpill you don't need science to eat, just common sense. Do animals need science to eat? How are humans so lost when it comes to food? Incredible!
Raw black beans out of a can was something I enjoyed and got plenty of weird looks for; Try black beans if you want to eat them raw.
Beans beans, good for your heart. The more you eat, the more you....😅😅
As long as u eat mainly low fat, I think cooked foods are fine.

good discussions but you don't believe in fully raw. Maybe change your channel name to raw-based instead of raw
🤍
You need to do a 40 day juice fast otherwise you will not survive. If you eat a single bean you will fail.
