Well done Alan great job i look at my glass half full never half empty you half 27 more bales than you had de other day love the videos love down down to earth
All these ppl complaining about you and your equipment couldn't handle doing it themselves most likely. Others pry had all kinds of nice stuff handed down. You do you and for get the key board tuff guys. I appreciate a man trying as best he can to make a living.
Ran a Claas 46 it did the job ok only bother the rear door could open a bit without you noticing because there arent check valves on them and bale would grow bigger and in haulage or silage you needed a haybob rowing up in front of it , would take 2x 3meter single rake of hay then , she paid for herself in the 1st year, looked at newer different balers and McHale was the daddy, a contractor was giving up baleing so had a chance at a McHale F5500, had to buy a 2 rotor rake the 2nd season to keep up with its appetite , will gobble up 8 meters of heavy silage as fast or faster than the old claas would a haybob swath, it makes a lot tighten bale as well only bother they roll away like footballs
McHale is the Rolls Royce of balers , the drive chains are bigger than anything else, the bearings for the rollers are stronger than anything else too and they are automatically greased each time you open the door by this grease gun type thing you put grease cartridges into every 300 bales, other balers i saw at the time were sealed for life bearings like the old balers
Alan, u need to put a value on your time - i.e. what hourly rate do you expect to be paid if you work for someone else and then transfer that into the farm and normally the result is look after your stock and get the contractor to do the pure machinery work!
I get what your saying. There are a lot of variables to consider too but I'll figure it out. Our farm structure has went through many changes over the last 5 or so years now it's down to the mindset and finding the balance
What your weight of bale with MF? I bet McHale would be heavy bale. If was after baler I talk to local contractor and offer better price then dealership. Contractor might throw spare parts or some arrangement with sharing parts instead running into town get parts. Our farm doesn’t have a baler, we get contractor in because it cheaper then storage, maintenance. Balers don’t like been left outside. If I had choose it Krone or Hesston.
Not sure what weight the wee Massey puts out. Only use her for hay and straw but I know when you screw her in you'll not push the bale over by hand. I wouldn't make too many round bales in the year so she suits my job...when I get belt fixed🙈
My gear wouldn't quite be good enough to start contracting, plus if I'm honest my heart lies more towards livestock than machinery work. Don't ask about the lambs🙈
@@alanclyde8253 I am similar whith machinery and livestock oh dear about the lamb's mabey you should get out of blackface ewes since you are on low ground and go for something like Lyne or New Zealand genetic sheep they seem to be sooting the market at the minute plus very easy lambing just a suggestion. @@davidnicolson6443 Might be safer with no sheep🙈 to be honest I don't know what the wool price was but it won't have been big. Its a shame how little the wool is worth
Just a thought lads I know time is precious but a few excursions to organic farms might be an idea. Break the monotony like. Some smaller boys down the country having good success.. Well done
The days of the "do it all yourself farmers" is gone Alan (unless you have the hands to get it all done) pick an enterprise and make it a right good one. A young guy with a head for farming, you'd make a tidy farm for yourself 👍 What do you work at outside the farm Alan?
The farming world is changing, to grow the enterprise yes it isn't a one man job. But to stay still with the farm I need another income. At the end of the day everyone's set up and circumstances are different and can't apply a one size fits all solution. I just know I can't do what I'm doing forever
The man who owns the cattle owns the land. Stop buying old machinery just to save a bit on contracting charges. They are fixed costs, whereas the variable costs of machine repairs and maintenance are just that, variable. There's no money in having gear on the yard rusting away. Keep your job and save spending on iron, buy more cattle with the money you save on buying gear.
Well I am not sure about The UK,but here in S Island NZ,the cattle trading is flying along. The world needs protein and always will do. Make a plan of how many cattle you can run and stick to that. I think if Brexit goes ahead there will never be a better chance for farmers to cast subsidies away and stand on their own two feet. The supermarkets are a bloody disgrace really and profiteer from most farm produce, except milk, which they sell as a loss leader and still the farmer takes the kicking. As a farmer where do you make your money. I fattened 500 Friesian bulls per year off 150ha and just pure cocksfoot grass plus lucerne silage. Early on I just had a tractor and bale feeder and contractors to do the rest. I think the future is ok if you stick to rearing cattle. If you want to drive a tractor and baler,go do some part time driving for a contractor and then the charges will be cheaper 😉 You'll earn more money.
Last year we baught a Lely welger rp220 with 15k bales made and a trailed bale wrapper for about £10,000 after putting new chains on the bailer as they all broke 😂 but this season I haven't missed a bale. The finance payments also work out yearly to be half of what I was paying a contractor so I think it was well worth it
Always hard to justify with old gear etc Alan..... looks to me like ya need a clear out of old kit...take stock pal and sleep on it then decide on your TIME which is the most valuable asset you can and cannot have. The balance of life is the one that will make you most profitable in the long run and if a contractor at a good rate can free up your time then go for the option. Regards the Fusion remember they take a good shot a poke to get the job done too!!! Take er handy fella!!
Was it a bit of that grass harrow you left at your arse that you baled into your baler? I'm not judging ya Alan but you're giving yourself a lot of grief. Maybe filming all this is taking your eye of the ball. Keep her lit mate. I know it ain't easy.
Just my opinion but Alan has far too much going on! Don’t know how he isn’t burnt out with all the work, think he needs to simplify the farm operation or go at it full time and with the way farming is atm stick to the job!!! Few pound in all that scrap lying around too :)
didn't know u have a baler aswell, no wonder ur always wreckin ur head as didn't realize the amount of stuff ye usually do yourself lol. Contractor is the way to go for some jobs like baling if ur not doing decent amounts, would save u a lot of stress in finding the help and breakdowns etc although not cheap if ur doing fair amounts too. Surprised ye dont have a chicken house alan, thats where the money is and not a massive workload
There's always plenty to keep me out of mischief. Think just need to accept I can't maintain doing everything. Hen house be a good thing for a fella who's scared of chickens😂
I think you would need to eather go at the farm full time make it profitable or leave your da to it do and just do bits and pieces nights and weekends take on a full time job. Because you seem to be working yourself into a depression the way your going.
That's not how farming works!! In in d blood, it's a disease that we have and get great great pleasure in doing. It's just a disgrace we dont get paid probably for it. I might be tired but we wud get more tired arsing around d house
Why would people dislike videos,A honest man Making a liven,

Down to earth videos, can relate to Alan. Hope he got the eyesight sorted.
Still half blind but it's getting better
Your videos show the world of farming, that I came from, not all shiny, new, thanks
That's it. Just showing it as it is😉

Luck ran out with our 1530, engine died. Luckily a neighbour finished the cutting. Have to decide whether to fix or get a contractor next year.
