In this video of Jake and Joel are Magic, we have a breakdown by Joel where we find out the best upgrades for the Dominaria United, Precon Commander Deck, Painbow. This Magic: the Gathering deck is new and will be hitting shelves in the next few days. At the helm of the deck is Jared Carthalion, a five-color commander, with multicolor synergies. My wife just bought me this deck for Christmas yesterday and I am STOKED to upgrade and play with it!
As 5 color player since I started this is the deck I wanted! But your takes on playing wuburg and land base issues was spot on!
This deck is SO fun to play for me, I’ve never had the opportunity to play a 5 color commander deck and it was a great introduction to all the different tactical calls you have to make.
Luckily I’m in a meta that is very accepting of proxies so I updated it for a second go with all the dual lands/shocks/triomes.
It’s not the best 5 color commander (I added new Jodah as alternate), but it’s so cool to have Jared at the commander role and to fling big Kavu tokens at people.
Plus that Mana cannon is strait 🔥
I bought this deck and played with it unmodded- it was pretty decent and fun, alot of mana sources, almost too many lol. Jared can be quite dangerous if left unchecked and evn if he dies- recasting can make his abilities even scarier. I do have everything to update the manabase and better rocks as well but im keeping this precon static so no one can say its too OP. The power level is pretty good tbh.
I have my jodah legendary deck which jared can easily lead and its brutal. I highly recommend scuttlemutt for the jared precon.

I have been running a brew of this with the new Gates and ways to fetch them, once you get Gond Gate out it's amazing

My Jared is soo much fun to play, it has a token doubler/super friends/ double counters theme. I made my deck where cascade is a sub theme, and flickering. I flicker my planeswalkers continuously flickering Jared with Aminatou while also having Nicol bolas which copy’s any planeswalker ability ( allows me to copy Aminatou, flickering it while having oath of teferi out resets the double triggers ) , Spark double makes it even more fun. Played 5 games yesterday won all 4 consecutively , people at the store shop were really intrigued by the combos & concept. I was thinking of adding sorin markov, while having vorinclex out on the field to flicker Sorin and make everyone’s life totals to 10 aswell as taking everyone’s turn lol
Luxior, Giadas Gift works really well if you can equip to Jared targeting him with his own abilities and possibly giving it trample or flying its unique & fun to see a planeswalker deal combat damage.

For how I built this deck... I wanted to play a bit more midrange - playing like the "blade" cycle - Jund Hackblade for example.. is a {B/G}{R} (2 mana) for a 2/1.. says that if you have another Multicolored Permanent, it gets +1/+1 and Haste. There's half a cycle of these that are basically 3/2s with a keyword in this deck, which can be pumped to a 6/5 with Jared's ability, I leaned a bit more towards the +1/+1 counters strategy
I have no interest in playing 5 color decks but I quite enjoy your content regardless. More please :)

The Bringers just aren't worth running. Ya, you can play them in WUBRG... But they have NO synergy with the rest of the deck...
Archelos is a easy cut for me. Letting me have my stuff come in untapped is fun, but it also applies to opponents and so it would benefit the table too much for me to want to run it. Maybe if it had ward or something
I don't understand why a lot of people are complaining about the mana base, I've played a lot of games but still I've never been skrewed with mana fixing or ramp. Sure, it may not be the fastest, but for a 6/7 power level deck is more than decent for me
The very first thing I when I bought this deck was to get all 10 Tri Lands and replace the 10 that come with the deck

i still stand by mayael the anima is a perfect add to this deck
I paid and pre ordered painbow from my lgs here in oz and i still havent got it as wotc has droped the ball yet again and not sent enough product here I'm so sad

For example I got myself a necron dynasties and it had multiple commanders that are so cool. But where can I find suggestions on how to build decks around them?

I’m currently building a Jared Carthalion deck with the restriction that it can’t use mono-colored cards, including colorless. Every card has to have at least two color pips in the casting cost. Basically a much weaker version of your deck. 😝
They really need to reprint the shit out of staple lands.

I was highly disappointed with this precon. It's basically just a bunch of cards with no synergy, thrown together. It makes no sense and the only win condition is just attack, which is the worst way of trying to win in commander
Hi, King. Can you expand on the win condition being "just attack" being a bad thing? Isn't that the main idea with a "combat focused meta" that I hear other channels talking about these days?

@@JonReid01 the average Meta is not combat focused, especially with all the different things you can do in game. Combat is fine if that's the only thing your group does. Combat is just the most casual way you can play the game. But Combat is irrelevant when you're dying to Aristocrats, Spellslingers, or Artifacts. Plus creatures are the easiest cards to interact with on the field. 1 boardwipe and you're basically done. Might as well scoop and move on.
