The faces on all of the mannequins are incredibly lifelike. The smile on the paratrooper is just astonishing. I've never seen anything like it before outside of a wax museum.
Phillippe and family. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for doing this and preserving history. I am incredibly humbled by both your passion and generosity. Amazing museum and I hope to visit here one day. Again, thank you so much for all the hard work, time, effort and resources poured into this project.
i am blown away by the places you take us to man. the fact that they bought, restored and kept all of that history in tact is beyond incredible. so much history is there! amazing, as always my fiend.
Another amazing video. I wish I was 20 years younger. I would love to spend a month or so retracing Normandy and the eastern points heading into Germany. In 1968 my mom and dad went to Europe. It was his first trip back since the war. He was showing my mother around a small city in Luxembourg and telling her about a small family bakery some of the troupes went to during a pause in action. They rounded the corner and the bakery was still there. When they went in an older lady behind the counter looked up and cried out his name-from America ! She welcomed them in and introduced them to her children that were helping run it. She insisted they come upstairs and have a meal with them. She couldn't stop crying and thanking him and other troops for freeing them from Nazi Germany. She was still full of emotion 23 years after the war. It was the highlight of their trip even though they saw many other things.
I don't know about anyone else. But, the way this museum was set up. It put me right there and then. You are actually experiencing what they did during that time. You go to so many museums and historic places and it's just that. Yes, you get an idea of what was going on. But this place is over the top! Well done! Thanks JD, for sharing this!
We live near Mayenne city, south of Normandy in the village of La Chapelle Au Riboul. We own an old girls school which was taken over by German intelligence but the students and faculty of the school found a way to listen in to the broadcasts from London and then inform the French resistance of the messages and what the German intelligence corps thought were being planned. We know that many made great sacrifices. We appreciate your videos. They are excellent
Another excellent and informative video. As I said on another occasion, your D-Day/Normandy work has been truly top-shelf. I wonder how many Americans possibly contemplating a visit to Normandy would even be aware of this museum if not for your presentation..
Philippe is to be commended for his excellent and sensitive restoration and conservation of this small part of the huge D-Day operation. From this video, the chateau exudes a certain 'atmosphere' of that time-frame; I would be looking over my shoulder most of the time whilst visiting it! Echoes of the past in the present...
I read the Wikipedia page for General Collins. It said he was awarded a silver star while fighting on Guadalcanal. He commanding the 25th Infantry Division before being transferred to Europe. "Lightning Joe" was an impressive man.
This is amazing. I know it will sound weird but I love that old smell from buildings and books. I bet it smelled great in there. Keep it up JD. Awesome job as always you make me enjoy history with my son like never before.
Very, very nice....thanks!😊If you notice at 25:13, this soldier looks like the same one who was escorting Ike when he was speaking to the troopers in England on 06/05/44....
very cool that furniture could sit for so long and not get vandalized or stolen over the 70+years great work this man is doing to preserve these spots for all to see the history of the farm
Oh wow, what better way to tour Normandy than in a Willy's Jeep on a nice day? That is one of the most amazing museums and jobs of restoration I have seen anywhere. If I ever get to Normandy (which I doubt I will) I would have to check the Collins Museum out. I can not adequately express my admiration and gratitude to the people who keep that history alive.
On the list to visit next year for sure! The fact that nearly everything is still as it was 80 years ago is just incredible. Also incredible that in those 80 years no one seemed to bat an eye at the place. Crisbecq battery looks great so I can imagine what this place must feel like. You can almost feel the soldiers walking about and doing their thing through the screen.
I've been to the national WWII museum in New Orleans. It's fantastic and 1st class. With that said, the museums in Normandy done by the french are even better as illustrated by this video. The amount of original WWII items the French have in their museums is astounding. The French really did a great job of collecting all sorts of items during and after the war and kept them in barns and houses. I was blown away with all the items they had. Any WWII history buff has to make the trek to visit the Museums there in Normandy.
This is amazing. I served in the 82d so a lot of this has a special place in my heart. Thanks so much for bringing us along with you for this walk through history.
Very, very impressive. I commend Phillippe and his family for all they've done to restore everything in remembrance of what took place here. Thank you so much for the tour.
Very impressive for a private citizen to restore a property of that size and create a WW2 museum of that quality. The life like mannequins were impressive (I’m not gonna ask why you have mannequins at home). Loved the Roi Tan cigar box on Ike’s desk. I’m really impressed by Phillipe’s efforts, and your videos of course.
Eisenhower is my 3rd cousin 4th removed. Love learning about him, I remember when I was a little kid and learned I was a long distant relative of his. My love for history began.
Great that he honors the 4th Infantry Division by wearing it on his polo shirt. One of the units I belong to when I was in the Army back in the late 1980s. Amazing that one of my old regiments the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment "The Red Devils" liberated this chateau.
What a remarkable museum! I will definitely be putting this on my bucket list. A B&B to boot. Does Phillipe pick you up at the airport in a Jeep? I sure hope so. That would be the icing on the cake.
Wow JD, that was cool as hell! I've been a ww2 buff since I was a little boy in the early 60s watching episodes of THE WORLD AT WAR and VICTORY AT SEA series over and over! At 62 I still have those episodes on DVD! My 98 year old dad served I the army during the war! Great video as usual, you remind me of myself, with your fascination with history! Many people don't understand all that went into winning that war! The total logistics of building factories to build the material of war, the ships, trucks, trains, etc to move that material and getting the manpower where it needed to be! There's no telling what the ratio was of the fighting man and those that supported them with food meds, ammo, etc and constantly moving! The pacific war had to be supplied over 7000 miles of ocean! It was a feat unmatched in history! Of course back then men were men!
Collins is one of my favorite WWII generals. This was an unexpected treat, and another entry that your channel has added to my bucket list, JD. Thanks 🤓🤓
That, was awesome! Major kudos to Philippe and his family and whoever had a part in restoring and more importantly, preserving this building and it's artifacts. The attention to detail is off the charts! And thank you JD for continuing to put out this content. I don't know why but D-Day and Normandy have a special place in my heart so I've been trying to explore the history behind what happened there. Not just on the beaches but throughout the war. Your channel has been an amazing find! You all do such a fantastic job of taking us to where it all happened. Tops on my bucket list is visiting one day.
You’ve taken us to a lot of museum but this one is by far my favorite. The fact they are using the original pieces that were there in 1944 on DDay is awesome. Not only that but the time and care to get it back to that time had to be and act of love on the owners part. Thank you for another amazing trip back into history. 👍😁
Just added this museum to my must see list as I’ll be “over there” in two weeks. Already had Crisbecq on the agenda. Warms my heart to see the French honor our forefathers!
You have absolutely the best sight on TH-cam dealing with history. Because my dad was in Germany with the hundred first airborne your site means so much to me. Thank you
What a fascinating video as always. What astonistnated detail. Wonderderful what Phillippe and his family have done. Thanks JD ❤ it. Thanks for the history lesson.
This place is beyond amazing. I am so impressed. I wish I could go there and see it.!!!!!! thank you so much for sharing this with us we can live vicariously through you
I can only think of how strong your desire is to visit History's steps instead of being inside teaching history to school students. You could only get information from books that tell the true feeling of being there where it all happened. So much of history has been forgotten over the years but your travels have brought so much alive to creat interest to others so it will not be forgotten.
If I Could Afford To Go To Normandy I Think It Would Take At Least a Month To Visit Everything I Want To See Thank You J.D For All The Content And Time You Give Us
JD...... i was concerned about the theft in Athens leading to a loss of great content in the future, however.... Brother, you just never let up and keep throwing us great videos. Somebody get this guy a beer🍻🏁🤘
Got goosebumps when u walked into the command room!!!! Could tell right away who was who and I felt like you should've been whispering so as not to bother them!! 🤣🤣😳Wow!!!! Fantastic job they did!!!
JD-what an amazing museum. I've never seen anything like it. I so wish my husband was still alive. He loved history as much as you do. He would have been thrilled to be taken to places he could never go. His Dad was in the army & over there during WW2. Your channel is beyond good! I never miss an episode. Thank you
What a cool place. It's awesome how much detail they put into the displays. Most museums just put stuff on display with an information card telling about it, but these displays put you right there in the moment and that's just as important. It gives you more insight to what it was really like. Thank you JD for another great video.
Always the best info. content on any platform, we learn so much history from your vids, all 12 of our family members never miss your show, thank you again so much best ever, God bless
Outstanding JD! This museum and your presentation of it takes us back to that time! Thank you for honoring those that were there before you! and the History you are keeping alive! Thank you for bringing us along!
Very good example of documentation regarding a natural born leader who didn't get the credit due him or the publicity if you will. Gen. Collins was everything when it came to handling a core, worked and earned his way up the chain of command by proven ability and success. The kind of leader any soldier would be glad to be part of.
Another absolutely stunning episode! Your productions are so incredible and you bring stories and places and things we never knew about that just keeps us hungry for more history! Thank you and God bless!

I totally agree!
It's gratifying to see how so many French people work to maintain and honor the history of the USA, French Resistance and Allied soldiers in WW2.

General Omar Bradley is beyond real. Also the sitting soldier is spot on natural looking. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
One could spend a month in Normandy alone to understand what happened there. Great video - another bucket list trip!
can you do a series about General Patton? like where he fought and where he died. that would be awesome
