I think Kevin Nealon as weekend update host is criminally underrated. He was the only one, besides maybe Chevy, that fully committed to it being a spoof on an actual newscaster. His bits were hilarious and his delivery flawless.
Absolutely Kevin. You're correct, he played it straight spoof. Dennis was also great, but you always knew it was Dennis in there, sarcasm & opinionated wit.
I agree with you there. My weekend update would have to have 2 hosts. So I guess I’d go with Jimmy and Tina. But I’d agree Norm is the best to do weekend update but I’d want 2 anchors in my ultimate cast.
My dream cast: Belushi, Aykroyd, Radner, Morris, Lovitz, Hartman, Miller as update anchor. Actually really hard, and makes you appreciate how balanced some of those real casts were.
By that logic you would have to put Joe Piscopo on it as well for the same reason. Go back look at the era, it was Murphy and Piscopo that carried SNL from 80 to 94
I think my top 4 is also the "died too young" list. Farley, Norm, Hartman, Belushi. What kinda of amazing art would they have created if they were still going?
Gilda makes 5. Was very surprised her name didn't come up in the conversation. Especially when Dana managed to mention a slate of his top female choices. (Speaking of which, Maya Rudolph? She got a lot of air time over the years but how much of it was actually funny?) Seriously, how could Gilda not be somewhere near the top of everyone's list??
My Top SNL cast: 1. Phil Hartman 2. Eddie Murphy 3. Will Ferrell 4. Dana Carvey 5. Mike Myers 6. Tim Meadows 7. Bill Hader 8. Molly Shannon 9. Maya Rudolph 10. Horatio Sanz
Eddie Murphy , Chevy Chase , Phil Hartman , Dana Carvey , Gilda Radner , Bill Murray , John Belushi , Chris Farley , Billy Crystal , Joe Piscopo. That's probably the greatest set of Sketch comedy talent ever. Ton's of honorable mentions.
Will Ferrell was #1 and Carvey #2 imo. They both took anything from page and made it better. Rounding out top 5 was probably some order of Farley, Hartman, and Sandler.
Mine would be : John Belushi,Chris Farley,Dan Aykroyd,Gilda,Kate McKinnon,bill Murray,Dana carvey,eddi Murphy,Chevy chase and norm macdonald oops Carvey,and sandler
#5: Jimmy Fallon #4: Jimmy Fallon #3: Jimmy Fallon #2: Jimmy Fallon And the all time number 1 cast member of SNL is... then we all wake up from our nightmare
1. Chris Farley 2. Fred Armisen 3. Phil Hartman 4. Eddie Murphy 5. Mike Myers 6. David Spade 7. Bill Hader 8. Chevy Chase 9. Kenan Thompson 10. Cheri Oteri
If I was a comedy expert, I would try to create 3 lists. The number of cast members on each list would be about the number of SNL cast members you would typically have at any one time (whatever that is): 1. Straight all time greatest 2. Best in each 'position' (best impressionist, best weekend update host, etc.) 3. Best team (this is the hardest one, figure out which combination would have the best chemistry, which may not always be the best player.)
For me, straight up all time greatest for SNL is Will Ferrell. Best impressionist I'll say Jay Pharoah. Best Weekend Update host I'll go with Norm MacDonald. And best team definitely Chris Farley and David Spade.
Phil Hartman, Mike Myers, Martin Short, Eddie Murphy, Jan Hooks 2nd Team: Darrell Hammond, Dana Carvey, Maya Rudolph, Billy Crystal, Bill Hader 3rd: Jack Handy, Robert Smigel, Chris Farley, Andy Samberg Molly Shannon
Only _five?!?_ that would be _impossible!_ why _only_ five? I've watched SNL for decades.. if any era can be selected from, dead or alive, then I am unable to just list five. There's been _tons_ of talent on that stage.
Dana is the greatest cast member of all TIME!……Phil Hartman is #2……Farley#3…….Norm McDonald #4….Jan Hooks#4…….Eddie Murphy#5……Dan Akkroyd#6……Bill Hader #7…….
Norm Macdonald the 🐐 Adam Sandler Chris Farley David spade Dana carvey Eddie murphey Beluschi Mike Myers’ Chris rock Will Ferrell Shane Gillis With special Guest : JIM CAREY AND DAVE CHAPPELLE
My dream SNL cast'd be : Phil Hartman Tina Fey Dana Carvey Kate McKinnon Chris Farley Darrell Hammond Dan Akroyd Molly Shannon Will Ferrell Fred Armisen Timothy Meadows Cecily Strong With Bill Murray as the host.
Eddie Murphy is the absolute MASTER, though. PHIL is my guy, though. Chris: Man by the river....in that Gdam VAN!!!! 😂😂😂😂 Crashing through that damn table!!!!! ❤️ 🤘

Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Molly Shannon, Will Farrell, Eddie Murphy But how do you leave out: John Lovitz, Chris Kataan, Cheri Oteri, Martin Short, Norm Mcdonald, Mike Myers?

David is contractually obligated to put Sandler on his list.

No way Sandler should be on there over anyone. 2 or 3 good skits
Lol yup

Dana's Dennis Miller at the end is amazing.
I was just going to say that. Hahaa
Great minds =)
Carvey and Miller stuff is amazing
Dana wanting to do that impression is the only good excuse for putting Dennis Miller above Norm
and his subtle jab at Howard
That is Gary Oldman playing Dana Carvey. He’s a master of his craft.
A Master of Disguise if you will.
It's actually Gary oldman playing Dana Carvey playing Gary oldman playing Dana Carvey... And he went method.
Versa Vice??
no, he doesn't flash that oddly tight Oldman smile. other than that, coulda been.
I can't unsee it!
I just clicked to make sure David included Norm in the lineup, was obviously not disappointed
Same
I think Kevin Nealon as weekend update host is criminally underrated. He was the only one, besides maybe Chevy, that fully committed to it being a spoof on an actual newscaster. His bits were hilarious and his delivery flawless.
Kevin and dennis were the kings of the update
Absolutely Kevin. You're correct, he played it straight spoof. Dennis was also great, but you always knew it was Dennis in there, sarcasm & opinionated wit.
@@dbcopper10 id agree kevin was the best of em all cheers
And Jane Curtin.
Absolutely.
Dana Carvey impersonating Dennis Miller always kills. He is one of the SNL greats to make my all-star list.
My top 5 would have 20 people in it. So hard to pick just 5! However Norm is my favourite Weekend Update anchor no doubt!!
I agree with you there. My weekend update would have to have 2 hosts. So I guess I’d go with Jimmy and Tina. But I’d agree Norm is the best to do weekend update but I’d want 2 anchors in my ultimate cast.
I agree. Norm #1 Chevy #2
Or so the Germans would have you believe.
I always love hearing Dana do his Dennis Miller impression 😂
How Norm isn't EVERYBODY'S best Update host is beyond me.
He Just trying to be different. Everyone knows norm was the best
I think Dana picked Dennis because he's really good at doing his impression. His Norm impression isn't very good.
Simple: Norm was basically nothing but OJ jokes during his time.
@@fredcasdensworld Or so the Germans would have you believe.
I love Norm, but he was a stand up comedian that was doing a weekend update. I enjoyed Nealon's or Miller's.
Nice to see Maya get some love, she is unbelievably talented
Believe me, MAYA gets plenty of LOVE ❤ Hosted last season, the Show ****
Her Beyonce with Martin Short on the anniversary show had me in tears.
Eddie Murphy "Hot Tub!" One of the best skits ever
I love Dana. Dennis Miller is unheralded due to his Republican views. Great point.
you mean since he has gone full blown nuts
"Normy, Normy, Normy..."
That's my list
Dana's so right about Matt Foley. I've seen that sketch many many times and I still cry laugh when I see it.
My dream cast: Belushi, Aykroyd, Radner, Morris, Lovitz, Hartman, Miller as update anchor.
Actually really hard, and makes you appreciate how balanced some of those real casts were.
Can’t leave Eddie out
it's SO difficult to choose!
Dana keeps it a buck with everyone. Love it. So real and authentic.
Omg that Dennis Miller impression spot on!
You gotta have Eddie Murphy on any kind of all-star list. He put the show on his back for a few years.
By that logic you would have to put Joe Piscopo on it as well for the same reason. Go back look at the era, it was Murphy and Piscopo that carried SNL from 80 to 94
Name a Joe Piscopo movie.
Now name an Eddie Murphy movie. Notice how that was far easier...
@@fredcasdensworld No. Eddie carried that show and piscopo was a second fiddle. Most of Eddie’s best sketches didn’t even have Joe in them.
1. Belushi
2. Eddie
3. Carvey
4. Ackroyd
5. Hartman
Surprised they didn’t mention a Kevin Nealon as a great Weekend update host
I think my top 4 is also the "died too young" list.
Farley, Norm, Hartman, Belushi. What kinda of amazing art would they have created if they were still going?
“Amazing art”? These were comedians, funny men, this wasn’t Pablo Picasso.
Gilda Radner. Age 42. One of the original 7. Married to Gene Wilder. Definitely on the "died too young" list.
@@jnnx Art is subjective.. Picasso sculpted and painted he didn't save the world. Both professions are entertainers.

Mine too.
the dennis miller at the end killed me
God, he’s so talented.
It's tough to pick just 5, but Norm MacDonald, Martin Short, Eddie Murphy, Chris Farley, Dana Carvey.
They wouldn't have worked well together.
And yet Eddie Murphy single handedly saved the franchise and essentially gave them both careers....
Ya know ...
yeh any list of Dream All-Time SNL cast has to start with Eddie
Exactly! Eddie and Piscopo were a team themselves.
Eddie's back is still sore from carrying that cast during his years.

Absolutely Sennis Miller.
Greatest weekend update ever.
Tied with Norm McDonald.
