The Iveys' (soon to be Badfinger) home demo of a Tom Evans/Pete Ham song put together as an audition listen for use in a scene of the film, The Magic Christian, featuring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr. Paul McCartney had encouraged the film company to use them, after he produced the feature number for the film, "Come And Get It", for the band. That was not yet released as a single at the time this demo was submitted.

Pretty darn good acoustic guitar solos at the ending by a 21 year old Pete Ham (Badfinger) and vocals by Tom Evans and Pete Ham

Saddens me to hear another example of the rich talent that was taken and destroyed by corruption in what should have been support

Growing up on Long Island in the 80s and 90s, my uncle Keni Fink gave my parents this album in the mid-80s sometime and I heard it. For some reason unexplained, I always played side 2 before side one on most albums. I distinctly remember hearing this song in the spring of 87 when I was 4 going on 5 years old and this song is what spring sounds like to my ears. I remember the day also because we went up to the Muttontown Preserve in perfect late April weather. That song was playing in my head all day, all week, all month, all year. I asked my parents about it but they gave it back to my uncle (it was borrowed apparently) fast forward to Purim 1995, and I was 12 going 13 years old. My parents bought two CDs for my brother and me. He got Green Day Dookie and I got Badfinger Magic Christian Music. At first, I thought Christian music? We're a Jewish family! How bizarre! After hearing Come and Get It (believe it or not the weakest song on that amazing album) I got pulled in by the AMAZING songwriting of Pete Ham and Tom Evans. This was the Abbey Road that isn't. The album has that kind of polish only an Abbey Road has. Some of the songs on it are on par with that great album. This song is my favorite song on that and the instant I heard it through the family CD player I knew I got the better deal (I still love Green Day too) and that album played CONSTANTLY for the next 2 years. Hearing this version makes me realize what the song would have become without the polished songwriting of this amazing group! Long Live Badfinger!

@Rock, Roll And A Whole Lotta Music I'm sure we're not the only ones! Badfinger is a very underrated band

@@BobcatOneManBand I would like to call them "less known" considering they had great chart hits.

@Rock, Roll And A Whole Lotta Music I can go with that. People hear them and automatically think it's the Beatles

@@BobcatOneManBand Agreed. They're just such a great band! If it wasn't for Breaking Bad (I hope you know about it) I wouldn't have discovered them.

Very odd to hear the original lyric, "my life was to be free" when I've always heard "my life would be my own" glad he found a lyric that rhymed

A lot of different lyrics too in the later verses, very cool, thank you for sharing!

If I could make a crazy wish it would be that the night Pete committed suicide that after they left the bar Tommy would have reminded Pete of this song. If he had talked Pete out of it then perhaps both wouldn’t have left us. When I have felt down from time to time I listen to this song and I’m ready to face another day.
