Good game. I love how they handle the system and planets travel time.
I often make planets with nothing but 10+ ship yards.
Also use the prison barge to move capture characters around. They can not be rescued if are in hyperspace.

I bought this game when it was released and it was my first grand strategy. I wish I had known how OP x-wings were. I struggled with playing empire every time and only beat the game once. I do remember I went on a killing spree with the Death Star to get that win. I thought it was fairly decent because it could carry an absolute shitload of fighters and troops.

Thanks for ruminating on this game. It's a heavy nostalgia game, but despite all its flaws, I kind of wish we'd see a return of a strategy game like this for Star Wars. It was a game where you made your own Star Wars story.
Alliance fighters were very, very op. Probably intended, but it was way too much in the Rebel's direction. Luckily this could be fixed with mods which made it a really incredible game to play after the balance was a little less broken.

I LOVE this game. Taught me how to manage things. Also, they had the best version of Dark Troopers.

A friend of mine and I used to play this in computer lab in middle school, Marking Period 3&4 has the same projects as 1&2 so we just resubmitted our projects and played this an hour every day for 5 months. It was GLORIOUS, the fleet battles with multiple death-stars deployed into one sector -

Ahh Starwars Rebellion, I loved this game.
Once had the Rebels take Imperial Center from me and in turn had Vader blow it up using a Death Star.
Sadly that meant that the game considered it was permanently in Rebel hands and a Luke and Leia Jedi double team captured both the Emperor and Vader in a single spy mission. Game over.

I was just a kid when this came out and dad got it for me because I was a huge Star Wars fan ( who wasn't back then ). SW:Rebellion used to be my favorite game but I never understood it well enough to actually do anything productive. I just loved the idea of a grand strategy game.

The way you have always come across is that you search for the right balance between story and gameplay, but if a game is specifically designed for either one, you will acknowledge it and look at it from that perspective.... So always great ruminations ;)

It was a really fun game...I admit i did build the death star and I did use it once just because I had to. It was worth it, took out a good portion of the rebel leadership.

    "Don't build the Death Star"
Baloney. I just finished this game again last week, and I had two of them. When you add a nice fleet to them and load them up with fighters and troops, they make for a very good sector "subjugation" mission. They also help with reputation in a sector, for planets that favor the Empire. Yes, they are vulnerable to attack runs, but I have never lost a Death Star.
Parts of the interface are absolute hell. I do not enjoy having to manage multiple windows of fleets and systems. If this game had a resolution upgrade, you'd have something like 10 windows scattered across your game board. *shudder*

I have probably put more hours into this game than any other I have ever played. I really wish we got a remake.

Loved this game growing up, I even still play it sometimes. The simplicity of the game, combined with the epic scale, really worked for me. I would be so happy if they would remake this game with better space battles and some better menu/automation options so as to make it less of a click fest.
I agree the Rebels were way over powered. I used to modify the game map a bit to balance things out. I put all the core sectors in a close knit cluster and spread the rim sectors out far from the core and from each other. Took forever for Rebels to colonize, but also made it take forever to find the Rebel HQ, so the Imps had the military advantage throughout most of the game but the Rebels had many "extra lives" as they could keep moving their HQ. The result was the Rebels would take multiple tries before gaining a proper foothold and would only then become overpowered, meanwhile the Death Star is out there slowly destroying all the rim worlds and ISD doom fleets are prowling everywhere. It made things interesting regardless which side you played.

I always wanted to play this as a child. Never had a computer. Let alone a good computer.

Empire can fast discover force users and i dont think they have less of them in numbers .... i had like 5 once while i never had more then 3 with rebels + empire can train them from start while with rebels you must wait on Luke to finish training. And i think you can demolish AI fighters fast if you let them fight under your fleet guns as AI send them always charging your forces. And i dont think in capital ship combat rebels can beat ISD for a loooong time - Even 3 MC cant kill ISD fast enough to not take looong repair time on one of them.

I'd think they limited Death Star destruction to, like, the Jedi only or something.

I won't lie, I really enjoyed this game in *spite* of its flaws (which are many). Hey, at least its not Battlefront II ;).

Oh man the menus in this one look straight out of windows 98. Plus 3 to gameplay.

Man I used to play this, got tired of having prisoner escape when I played the imps, so I started putting them on my slowest ship and jumped from on side of the map to the other to keep them locked in hyperspace

Lore: This game has little to no story
Me: Whatever crazy story I come up with in this game is still better than the sequel trilogy.
Also the people who can be Jedi on both sides is random

      I agree with that.

I always made my own stories up for what was going on. Had an arc where I'd train up the jedi, start a conquest of Coruscant and what not, lots of fun.
