THANK YOUUUUU!!! Both of my favorite black jeans decided to break off on me just like this and I don’t want to throw them away because they’re fairly new, and they’re great pants!! Lol I’m going to do this tomorrow on my day off.
THANK YOU!!! YOU ARE A LIFESAVER!!! I have a pair of knee high converse that have zipper teeth not properly spaced at the bottom, and now I can wear them again!!! :D
I’ve been trying to find how to fix my jeans that have this exact problem because I only wore them once & fit perfectly & I CAN FIX THEM NOW, THANK YOU!!❤️
Thank you, thank you, thank you. A thousand times thank you. I have a jean jumper I just absolutely love and I had only worn it a couple of times. One day when putting it on I broke the zipper and it created a missing tooth. I gained some weight and that is why this happened. LOL I didn't want to throw the jumper out, but I hated the idea of having to replace the zipper or paying someone to do it. And of course, I needed to lose that 5 lbs to get back into them. So, I said let me see if there is an easy fix on TH-cam. And wah la I found your video. If I could I'd give you a great big hug. The tricky part for me was getting the zipper to align past the broken tooth. That took the longest time, but not more than maybe 5 minutes. Once I got that bad boy aligned, then I did the required stitching to create the stop, so the zipper wouldn't return to the missing tooth area. This was a really great video that gave a great visual and that's how I was able to easily repair my zipper. Thanks again and God bless. Five years later your video is still helping people with this issue. Toodles.
That is one handy trick, and saved me a lot of grief on fixing the breast-pocket zipper of my leather jacket. Luckily the missing teeth were near the bottom, so this technique was just what I needed! Thanks!
OMG!!!! thank you soooo much for this amazing tip me and my hubby was trying to get my jean zippers done it took forever! 🤦🏻♀️😅 but with your tips it was super easy! thank you Joan, god bless! 🥺❤️
Thank you! I have a dog with heart worm and she isn’t supposed to go on walks for a while, I bought her a stroller and broke the zipper 🤦♀️ this was such a simple fix and I didn’t have to buy a new stroller!! 🙏
My dryer ripped the zipper pull off of my favourite designer hoodie (one tooth came out). 😢 Im not sure this repair will work unless I want it permanently zipped at the bottom. Any suggestions?
Very clever. I lost teeth in the middle near the top (and now I’m wondering how I even did that), and I think that might just have to be entirely replaced, but this is a very smart tip that I will write down for the next time! Thanks
I have some pretty vintage Levi’s. A couple teeth fell off of the zipper and I can’t seem to get the zipper to line up and start up from where the teeth start after the missing teeth. Do you have tips to make it easier?
You can try using a pair of needle nose pliers, sometimes you can snap the teeth together, just be careful not to use to much pressure you can bend or tear the teeth out.
Bless u for this vid!! I thought my fav jeans were just lost cus I’m def not skilled enough to replace a zipper!! this is a perfect solution 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
It is tough to say without seeing it, but if it is just one tooth, and you could get the zipper separated. You might be able to hand stitch the gap tighter together by hand where the tooth is missing and try to get the zipper to line up. Probably easier to replace the zipper.😕
hi! i have a skirt where the teeth of the zipper are very big and fairly spread apart (if that makes sense) there is one tooth missing near the bottom on the side that the zipper is on. i can’t switch the sides that the zipper is on easily. any advice for doing this when the missing teeth are on the zipper side? thank you! 😁
You can still do it as long as your ok with a short zipper, I just did it with my husbands pants just cut where the broken pieces are and and do the zipper like normal but you would have to sew all the way down so there's no openings
I had a missing tooth 3/4 of the way up. I managed to put my slider back on the track (going downward) using force. Instructions for what I did: Align the zipper teeth and feed missing side into the slider. Once both sides are in the slider pull down (use ALOT of force). The zipper will align all the teeth for you. When you pull up the slider, your zipper should work normally again. (took me 2 minutes to do this... took me 20 minutes to watch all these videos)
This is great but mine fell off at the top so I can’t sew that together. Having this happen to several jeans in the past few years and I wanted to find an easier way then to sew a whole new zipper into it.
@@SewingAlchemy I think it still helps for my other pair which has a lower break in the teeth. I’ll just have to get the zipper back on the track first. I have 3 pairs of jeans that broke recently 2 were old and one brand new. I’m starting to think they are making things cheaper and chowder by the day.
If i have this problem in my jacket, its about 15 cm from where i start the zipper, any suggestions on how to fix it or do i need to replace it all? Thanks!!
I would try possibly pulling off one of the bottom teeth where your trying to start the zipper, it's no guarantee it will work, but it has worked for me in the past.
This would only be an issue if the zipper was broken while putting the pants on. Example being she could barley get her hips In to the pants. With the low rise jeans it would be more common because they would need to get just past the widest part of the hips to stay up and having a 2-3” zipper is a lot less room for expansion. You really gotta know why the teeth are missing to know if this will work.
hi there, your video makes sense. Wish there was a way to send a photo. Mine has 4 teeth on the bottom right and then 2 teeth missing. I'm trying to grab the teeth above the missing spot and it's not happening. :-(
You could sew around the area on each side of the zipper, and just zip to that point, but the zipper probably wont stay up, it most likely would need replaced. I have seen videos where people have taken teeth from the very bottom and attached them where the teeth are missing at the top. I personally have had poor luck doing that method. You may likely need to replace the zipper if you want to save the pants.
@@SewingAlchemy not a problem and I am doing pretty good! I have a 7 month old baby girl and Logan is going to be 11 next month! Time flies! I hope you are doing good!
You can do this if its broken higher up to, youll just have a short zipper, if you cant squeeze into them with a short to no zipper, its time for bigger pants anyways.
Unfortunately this is one very specific case scenario. Would not help at all if the missing tooth is not at the very bottom of the zipper but rather any other place where you can't arbitrarily lock it off. Title should probably reflect that.
Your lucky that the missing teeth were down close to the end. If it was higher up, you would have to replace the zipper. Tommy knowledge, I don’t believe that they make replacement teeth for zippers.
I think unless the pants are loose fitting it would be better to replace the zipper, but if they are loose you could just tack down the flap that covers the zipper up the the spot your pants. well if they have the flap some dont.
Funny how crafty I am becommig during this lockdown! Loving it too. Thanks JoAnn I just fixed my jeans!

If you can put the pants on comfortably, you could line it up and sew the zipper shut from where the teeth are missing.
thank you so much!! This saved me so much money as i was told the whole zipper needed to be replaced

Yeah it won't work in every situation, but if the teeth fall out at the bottom this is a good quick fix.
THANK YOU!!! I had to pull out a couple teeth below to get it started, but I did it!!!

Can you do this if the zipper tooth, 1 single zipper tooth, is broken in the middle of the garment? Or do you need to replace the whole zipper

it only works if the broken teeth are close to the bottom. What do you do if that broken teeth are close to the top?
I think you will most likely need a new zipper.
How can you do the first part putting the teeth into the zipper

If the pants are loose enough you could sew shut half way up, but usually it means a new zipper.

Only works on jeans and trousers or any clothing that doesn't need to be opened like a jacket or coat. No good for a jacket or coat.
Yeah unfortunately coats are hard to fix, they usually need to be replaced.
I did it 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Unfortunately this is one very specific case scenario. Would not help at all if the missing tooth is not at the very bottom of the zipper but rather any other place where you can't arbitrarily lock it off. Title should probably reflect that.
I thought you could see it in the thumbnail. Sorry for the confusion.
