      Man, that's no joke. Folly Beach in Charleston is my adopted home break, and you really have to paddle hard to get up to speed.

    To get “surfable” waves here in Connecticut, you have to travel to other states. A “swell,” is not a swell, it’s just when the wind kicks up. The biggest wave size I’ve ever seen here on the CT coast is 3 and a half feet. This video is a miracle.

    Great detailed explanation, the first turn into the power section of a wave is so important. I think once beginners get this, they're on their way!

    This is perfect for me. Still learning the speed generation side of surfing to get down the line and conserve power for the right time, it will take time but I'm super happy with my progression. Have a good one kale.

      Also a Floridian. I moved from the gulf to NE Florida. from sloppy but punchy to longer lines but extremely weak.

    It took me a while for it to click but riding my tiny 5’0 fish, I really just had to focus on generating speed and settle with one or two big turns rather than trying to do a bunch of turns without generating speed. Generating speed in weak surf is the most crucial thing.

    Can you do a video on how to climb the foam and do small floaters on mushy closed out small sections please. They break I surf has a lot of this

    All the waves in central Qld are weak sloppy waves. A bonus this week was the local beach being closed for a 3.5mtr crocodile hanging around. Fear is a big challenge for surfing up here. Haha

    Great video Kale - got me excited and stoked for next time I can head out to see how I can improve my summer surf, and I might even dust off the old 5"6 fishy I've got thats been sitting during the winter!
    Have you ever surfed Perth / WA City breaks and any tips for these small, mushy, onshore/cross wind, close-to-shore close-outs? (other than drive down to Margies :D :D :D)

    Hey Kale! What kind of skateboard would be best for me to buy to practice my surf skills? I'm 5"9 and weigh between 65-70kgs. There's just so many dif' types of boards... I have an evolve electric skateboard and I have a normal skateboarding skate board, as in the popsicle shaped ones ... Intermediate surfer thanks :)

    Hey Kale! Do you think it is possible to have too much volume in a small wave grovel board? I have a 6'0 Firewire Seaside but it feels pretty wide and corky on slightly bigger waves so am thinking of going to 5'11, but dont want to ruin its grovel qualities

    This is pretty much all I surf, I head out into small waves with my young daughter, I like the idea of a soft board so that I can help her out while out there, was thinking about a Catch Surf Log 7'0 for 2-3 Foot, any recommendations from anyone on this board or something similar? I am 80kg 5'8, thanks! Surf two sessions a week over summer generally.
