To get “surfable” waves here in Connecticut, you have to travel to other states. A “swell,” is not a swell, it’s just when the wind kicks up. The biggest wave size I’ve ever seen here on the CT coast is 3 and a half feet. This video is a miracle.
@@elliottcasey3142 ikr LMAO. We're getting a lot of late little south swells. On November 7-9th, a lot of north LA point breaks will be decent, like 4-5ft
This is perfect for me. Still learning the speed generation side of surfing to get down the line and conserve power for the right time, it will take time but I'm super happy with my progression. Have a good one kale.
Hey Kale! I've been bodyboarding all summer (NW USA) and I just recently got an actual board. I wanted to say thank you, because your videos got me psyched to start surfing and in the end got me out there, I'm sure they'll help keep improve as well. Thanks again!
Glad u got to see your family Kale, considering the travel restrictions we've been facing lately. U would have been proud of all the groms that took part in the surf skate sesh at triggs carpark last weekend🤙
do you think you could do some more videos for people in their first year of surfing where we are using foam boards? think wave storm... A video about surfing sloppy weak waves on a foamie was what I was hoping this video was. I enjoy your videos very much, that is to say and know this will be helpful in the future! Thank you :D
Wait, that was a BAD day??? I thought he was just showing footage of slow mushy waves. Dude that day looks amazing! 3-4ft perfect long left and right that aren’t choppy with 5 people in the water
It took me a while for it to click but riding my tiny 5’0 fish, I really just had to focus on generating speed and settle with one or two big turns rather than trying to do a bunch of turns without generating speed. Generating speed in weak surf is the most crucial thing.
All the waves in central Qld are weak sloppy waves. A bonus this week was the local beach being closed for a 3.5mtr crocodile hanging around. Fear is a big challenge for surfing up here. Haha
Great video Kale - got me excited and stoked for next time I can head out to see how I can improve my summer surf, and I might even dust off the old 5"6 fishy I've got thats been sitting during the winter! Have you ever surfed Perth / WA City breaks and any tips for these small, mushy, onshore/cross wind, close-to-shore close-outs? (other than drive down to Margies :D :D :D)
Hey Kale! What kind of skateboard would be best for me to buy to practice my surf skills? I'm 5"9 and weigh between 65-70kgs. There's just so many dif' types of boards... I have an evolve electric skateboard and I have a normal skateboarding skate board, as in the popsicle shaped ones ... Intermediate surfer thanks :)
Hey Kale! Do you think it is possible to have too much volume in a small wave grovel board? I have a 6'0 Firewire Seaside but it feels pretty wide and corky on slightly bigger waves so am thinking of going to 5'11, but dont want to ruin its grovel qualities
This is pretty much all I surf, I head out into small waves with my young daughter, I like the idea of a soft board so that I can help her out while out there, was thinking about a Catch Surf Log 7'0 for 2-3 Foot, any recommendations from anyone on this board or something similar? I am 80kg 5'8, thanks! Surf two sessions a week over summer generally.
This is perfect for us US east coasters. You have to work for it here 80% of the time. 🤙🏽💛
Man, that's no joke. Folly Beach in Charleston is my adopted home break, and you really have to paddle hard to get up to speed.
@@brandontaylor2790 damn I use to live in Summerville and went there all the time. Yeah it’s tough🤙🏽

very much so yeah

Sloppy weak waves are most of our experience at Rockaway Beach, Brooklyn, NY ! Thanks for this
Confirmed. I'll be there tomorrow and sunday
Great detailed explanation, the first turn into the power section of a wave is so important. I think once beginners get this, they're on their way!
Those "sloppy weak waves" would be considered EPIC on the North Sea shores of Holland... 🤔🤔🤔
Lol..i just posted the same..saw your comment now🤙
Same in Holland Michigan.
People in Florida would also be all over it
Yeah Scheveningen is the all time ruller of sloppy and weak
Scheveningen :D
Los Angeles surfers need this... and as one, I appreciate, thanks!
There will be north swell.... Anyyyyyy day now...

Great video as always, would love if you did a tutorial going in depth on aerial manoeuvres for more advanced surfers, keep it up!!
Aka how to surf Florida 😂. I like the starting high point you mentioned, I’ll have to give that a shot

Also a Floridian. I moved from the gulf to NE Florida. from sloppy but punchy to longer lines but extremely weak.

The australian 'weak' summer waves come close to 'best days' in my country (netherlands)😂

Thanks for that reminder from your video. I brought my retro fish to my home spot and a messy session was made super fun!
Hey kale I love your videos I actually surf at urban surf. I was wondering if you could do a video on all the turns and tricks etc with surfing.

Mr broccoli, you have a new subscriber. Thanks for the great vids....now I m off to check the skate program
As a UK surfer, I'd take those "small, mushy, weak" waves pictured in this video any time !

Can you do a video on how to climb the foam and do small floaters on mushy closed out small sections please. They break I surf has a lot of this
