Good stuff, Dan! I read a lot of behind-the-scenes books that I'd purchase after going to various movies. You didn't skip a beat! Another bit of trivia...Spielberg actually submitted a public apology regarding the level of "violence" featured in Temple of Doom, particularly because of the heart removal and subsequent burning alive of the sacrifice victim scenes.
The Ford TRI Motor plane from the beginning of the film is still owned by Kermit Weeks at his Fantasy of Flight Museum in Polk City, FL. It is still kept in flight worthy condition, as all of Kermit’s planes. 👍😎👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
"It is still kept in flight worthy condition, as all of Kermit’s planes." Hmmm... I wouldn't call that DC-3 he had mounted on a pedestal for over 20 years "flight-worthy" condition! He still has quite a few planes in pieces that are still crated, too. I'm not bashing the guy, btw. Those are just the facts. It's hyperbole to say that everything Weeks owns is flight-worthy!
Very good retrospective review and oh, how I loved those days seeing Raiders and Temple in the theaters! That's a bunch of props that still exist and the value unbelievable. I did remember as a young person wondering what happened to Marion and why she didn't make an appearance ....she was and is my favorite. Great job 👍🏻
This is the first movie I started buying "making of" books and magazines when I was about 15, and kicked off my interest in "How" movies like this were really made. Thanks for the video Dan!
You spoil us Dan, thank you sir for yet again another great episode 👍🏾….so glad to hear you like the soundtrack aswell,…my friends & I played that creepy TEMPLE OF DOOM track, on cassette, in are car stereo system’s full blast & windows down, creeping out anyone that heard us crusin down the street😂😂😂😂…gotta love the 80’s😂….oh yeah, only took me more than 15years to figure out this was a PREQUEL NOT SEQUEL🤠👍🏾
I love this movie, I used to play the video game at Arcades. I remember when the video game went unused, it would play music and dialog from the movie. Repeating "we walk from here" over again. Thank you for the awesome video, Dan.
This was a fun episode Dan!!! I once had the teaser poster, sadly it was stolen. But I think this was a great film. I always felt that the lava roller coaster would have made a great ride at Disney. A Temple of Doom ride
This movie would have been better with Marion vs Willy. Could have even shown why they split up! Kate’s character was just over the top and didn’t fit the Indy storyline.
Dan you have an absolute gem of a channel here! In your "how cool is that" category, as a kid my neighbor had 35mm projectors and we saw many things down there from 79'-91' like the jaws films, alien, empire strikes back and this one I remember fondly. Thanks for the memories! 👍
I think the first two movies were my favorites, although Sean Connery was a pleasure as Henry Sr. in part 3. It's kind of like...with sequels...when do you stop making them and move on to something else? Making money over demanding and producing quality? I mean, should there really be a Rocky 24? Anyway, Dan, on another note, thanks for "The Badge"! I'm honored. I'm thinking about printing it out, putting a pin in it, and affixing it to work attire. If anyone asks about it, I have the opportunity to mention your channel. Temple Of Doom was obviously much darker than Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Rips my heart out every time I watch it! Makes me want a few shots of bourbon with some chilled monkey brains.
As a lifelong back problem guy.... I can relate. It's a level of agony that the medieval torture guys would have loved. Knee dropping, yowl to whatever force is animating all this mater, PAIN.
I am so happy i found your channel. It has been fantastic! You bring back so many great memories of my younger years! They used the alligators from Gatorland in Orlando for the bad guys getting eaten scene. The actual Ford Trimotor plane that was used in the film, is in a Airplane museum near Orlando as well. Keep it up Dan!
I totally agree that Temple of Doom is a fabulous sequel. I loved it when it first came out and only grew to love it more over the years since. I guess there are copyright reasons why you don't play clips in your show but while watching this episode I saw them playing in my mind... especially for some weird reason the opening musical performance of the song "Anything Goes". I always imagine that John Williams must have absolutely loved that!
Thank you dan, It seems that every time you do a video you enable me to rewatch my favourite movies and series from of a different perspective, making them fresh and getting me excited about watching them again! Keep up the great work! 👍👍👍
I felt like this was a perfect follow-up to Raiders. It had the right "feel" to it - story, cinematography, direction, acting - the works. I loved the interactions between the Indiana and Short Round characters, as well. Excellent presentation, sir! (As always).
Dan my man!!! You rocked this one! Thank you so much 😊 for this episode!!! Loved finding out at the end how much everything sold at auction! And so happy to know that is a lot of it out there! 🙏👍🤩
This was really excellent! I saved it to my iPhone and will watch it again later. So many neat facts. Brilliant! Tho you did get one teeny tiny thing wrong. Harrison’s stunt double was Vic Armstrong, not Nick. (Spelled minus the K). His autobiography - The True Adventures… is well worth a read. I have a signed copy. But once again Dan you REALLY entertained us here! 👏👏👏
I read that Spielberg made Willie so utterly helpless as a reaction to critics who complained that Marian from Raiders was too helpless. Essentially thumbing his nose at them.
Marian was helpless? She had her own bar in the Himalayas and she was helpless? Marian was both sharp-tongued and fiery while also being feminine and sexy-a nice contrast. They took away the fiery side of Marian’s personality in Crystal Skull which was unfortunate. Willie was pathetic and Kate Capshaw’s performance annoying.
@@Nicksonian _I_ didn't say she was helpless. The critics did. And Spielberg was annoyed because Marian WASN'T just a damsel in distress. But the critics preferred to ignore that fact and instead focused on the times Indy saved her.
I think you should change the name of your program to The Ted Williams Show. You consistently keep knocking your deep dives out of the park. Bravo from Canada.
Hello Dan, I loved watching that - it brought back so many happy memories! Have you heard of a UK stand up comic called Ross Noble? Before each of his shows he plays an info vid on a giant screen basically telling everyone in the audience to put their phones away and not to record his show and other audience etiquette type things...anyway on one of his tours a few years ago, the info vid was a spoof song an dance number with tap dancing chorus line girls singing a comedy show tune telling is not to use our phones etc....and later in the show Ross told us that the girls in his video were wearing the actual costumes that the girls wore in the 'Anything Goes' scene, and that he rented them out from a movie prop storage place!
Brilliant! My old school friend was one of the assistant editors on this. He told me at the time that the heart scene was originally even more gruesome but they cut it down … we were only 17-18 at the time. He still in the movie biz here in the uk - cheers Dan!
Dan Monroe and the Temple of Deep Dives! Another great video and is about one of the greatest cinematic characters ever! Thanks for your hard work Dan and the care you put into these great videos!
Thanks for keeping it all alive and well. Now it's time for a rewatch of Temple of Doom, with some pauses--- especially at the rope-bridge scene. Gotta see those mechanical dummies! and I'll be looking for the hat.
Thank you for another great episode. The amount of time you invest really shows in the final product. All the shots of the props and what they sold for are cool. The behind the scene and insider info adds a lot.... and the shot of Debbie wow... There I said it . Once again thanks for being a positive voice.
I spend too much time commenting on all your videos I have work to do... 🙂 This one was extra special for me. Boy do I remember the first time I saw this one... Thanks Dan. Hit it out of the park AGAIN!!!
I saw this when in my mid 20s and didn't enjoy it as much as Raiders of the Lost Ark. After watching this video, I now appreciate the huge amount of work that was put into the production, so thanks again Dan.
Oooh man. I just can’t get enough of all the Indiana movies. I watch them when I need some movie magic in my life. A lot of practical fx and the gags are off the hook! The look of the film alone transports you to old Hollywood class filming. It’s one of my most favorite movies of all time. I’ll probably be watching it today lmao!!! Great job Dan!!!
I absolutely love Indiana Jones, I have to say you did a fantastic video on this movie Mr Monroe! keep the Movies, Music & Monsters coming and I will watch with enthusiasm!
awesome video as always, Dan! I remember in roughly 1988 when I worked at Warner Brothers, I was working the graveyard shift and I used to go upstairs and one of the executives office and played the arcade game, when I got the high score I would always used to have to unplug the machinein order for the score or not to show up! Lol
Temple of Doom is an amazing movie and you Dan are amazing as well! I appreciate your informative videos so much. Thanks again for all your hard work putting these together.
Just one home run after another Dan. What a great classic, sure it was dark but so much fun. I waited two hours in line outside on opening day. My favorite scene is the mine car sequence which I know a lot of people roll their eyes at when it makes the successful landing after the incredible jump from the broken rails. I always tell them that "sure the odds were a million to one but don't most viewers want them to survive by making a spectacular feat". As usual, thanks again for another home run episode !
Thanks Dan, your amazing amount of knowledge greatly enhances the engagement with and enjoyment of the film. Much appreciated. Hi my two favourite robots! Robot really has such a mouth on it.

Great coverage Dan. I respectfully put Temple as #3. I prefer Raiders and Last Crusade as one and two but hey I prefer Star Wars over Empire so there you go. I really loved your details and all the coverage of the surviving props. BTW I hope you are paying Robot enough. I’d hate to lose him in your videos. "If I have Offend-I am sorry." 1984 was a huge year for movies for me. Much like 1979 there was so much to watch-enjoy= and still have fun watching to this day. Last Starfighter, Gremlins, Romancing The Stone, DUNE, Star Trek 3, Beverly Hills Cop, Runaway, Terminator, Supergirl, 2010 just to scrap the surface. The heart scene still scares me. Dan; simply one of the best at what he does.

Hard to believe that it was over 40 years ago I saw this film in the theater. Time does fly.
Kinda makes you feel old, but still brings back good childhood memories 😊

Kate Capshaw was a smokin hotty!! As Dan said, this movie grew on me and watched it a few dozen times. Thanks Dan! Another wonderful video! 🤩
Willie as a character and Kate Capshaw’s performance seriously dragged down the film.
