Not only did this movie know how to incorporate CGI into traditional (practical) effects, they (production team) knew when NOT too, which IMO is one of the reasons it still holds up visually even today.

Amen to that! I think it’s a lesson very few filmmakers took away from it. To paraphrase Ian Malcolm, they get so caught up in whether they can do it with CG they never stop to question if they should.

I, in typical Hank fashion, read the book first and loved it. When I was really young, fell in love with dinosaurs, wanted to be a dinosaur doctor, untill I found out they were all dead. I became engrosed with Paleontology. In 1983 at 12 yo I got invited to see a dig in Montana by to professors from Rocky Mountain Univeristy. As a boy my favorite Dinosaur was the Triceratops, and still is today. In the book the sick Dinosaur was a Steg. When I saw the movie at 21, and i saw they changed it to a triceratops, I was moved to tears watching an almost real live breathing one.

An informative and entertaining video. And for what it's worth, I guess my favourite onscreen dinosaurs are the ones in the 1925 "The Lost World".

Incredible, 30 years on and the special effects & cgi still hold up beautifully today , thank you for your review.

Many Hollywood films had setbacks while filming in Hawaii, including Waterworld with Kevin Costner. The logistics also make Hawaii an expensive location to shoot.

Ah, the first time Phil Tippet let the dinosaurs out! Amazing they let him back into his dinosaur supervisor role after all that death and destruction 😉

The film that topped Jurassic Park at the box office number one spot was the re-release of Star Wars Special Edition in 1997. Titanic then followed.

As always, love that you bring to the videos cool info that, even all these years later (and PLEASE stop reminding us of our age!!!! lol), we can still learn new info. Also, really liked your videos of the fossils at the end...NYC?

It was a breakthrough movie. While well made IMDB pointed out it made an average of 1 mistake per minute of film. My favorite is misspelling "stegosaurus".

I love that Jurassic Park, just like Jaws, was a fantastic commercial success and the film makers showed the constraint of never making any subpar sequels.

What's even more impressive is the way the CGI held up on the big screen where every little
flaw is readily apparent, as anyone who went to the first Black Panther film can tell you...
This movie combines quite a few movie tropes that I usually find off-putting: the "bad luck"
moment setting the plot in motion that should have been easily avoidable; overexplaining basic
    scientific concepts through lengthy dialogue; "Won't someone save the children?!?" tomfoolery;
    mostly inherently flawed writing stuff.
But the acting and pacing make this movie great for me. Without those, it's simple eye candy.
    Like Thrashpondo...

I loved the hot take from some comment i read somewhere that the movie paints a more science gone wrong, instead it was a capitalistic hubris gone wrong (no backup off grid generators?or having hiring just one IT network guy)the science worked gloriously right

The one really, really bad goof in this great movie is the T-Rex scene.
He steps out and breaks down the power lines to get to the touring cars...Then suddenly that "step" becomes a 30 foot drop when the car gets pushed over the side. 🤦‍♂️

I remember an Orlando Sentinel movie review of Jurrasic Park that I read with incredulity. The director said while it groundbreaking in vfx, the dinosaurs were really just visual tricks and the story didn't have staying-power like E.T. or Star Wars and that it was a "Big film but not a great film." I know. Screw that guy. Critics have often failed to grasp what's significant to the audience in the theater because they can only look at past successes and failures. So in this case, I think the critic overlooked how much this movie changed the way people thought of their own future and potential as human beings and that's sort of the unwritten mandate of SciFi It might also explain why you can't just makea CG Dinosaur Action movie and expect it to inspire a generation. Right now, I think there is such prescient denial over how fractured human experience has become that cultural relevance and importance have become casualties of the medium.

I can't claim to have been 14 when this movie came out; actually, I was 28. But, while watching it, I felt like I was 14. Because ... DINOSAURS!!! (I love all movies with dinosaurs, even the cheesy ones ... especially the cheesy ones, because if you can't have fun with these things, what's the point?)
I normally click on pause to read the 'Other Notes'; this is my first time to linger on the views from the museum. Which museum is this? Excellent dinosaur exhibits.

Love the movie, I even have the ultimate trilogy of Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, & Jurassic Park 3, I kind of wish we saw more stop motion dinosaur movies in the modern day just the way how stop motion animation moves, & how creative and interesting they look & feel, I’m a fan of stop motion animation movies such as Coraline, & Kubo & the 2 Strings, along with Nightmare Before Christmas, & the Corpse bride. I kind of wish they went more into the horror route. I decided to subscribe to u because ur channel reminds me of the TH-camr Oliver Harper, could u do a video about the attempted Dark Universe that Universal Studios tried doing twice.

Not exactly in your genre, but yet, it's such a classic thriller (for a TV movie) and being that it was done by a very young Spielberg I thought it would be a fun review

It’s funny….you say in your narrative in the beginning….”going back as far as the first blockbuster, King Kong, in 1993.” I think you meant to say 1933, but I guess you had 1993 on your mind at the time!!

I think you summed up this film for me when you mentioned it being made for an audience that would include children. Having seen the film once and being disappointed, I think this explains why I didn't find the film satisfying. Ground-breaking as the effects were, excellent as the Direction was, wonderful as the premise was, it was ultimately a family-friendly kids film. JP was not the edge-of-your -seat, white-knuckle ride, Terror we had been expecting. The sequels became more like Abbott & Costello meet Jurassic Park. Money-making Parodies, rather than worthy successors.

I realise what I'm going to say is not really the point and definitely unfair to the realities of making a film like this. The problem 'Jurassic Park' has in my opinion is that 'JAWS' exists. I cannot consider the later film without comparing it to the earlier. I don't believe a single moment of 'J.P.'. I'm all too aware I'm watching a movie, actors, sets, props, camera work and effects. I never feel anything for anyone in this film, or for anything that happens. 'JAWS' felt vibrant, economical, grounded, atmospheric and surprising in many places. It felt real. 'J.P.' feels like the latest ride in a theme park to me by comparison, that has been built with the most modern tools and wrapped in a sterile covering to protect all the elements until opening day. It feels like an advanced product to me. I've never watched it a second time, because there's not enough for me to genuinely care about in it. This was the point in time in which I realised that the technology was advancing rapidly, while the actual experience of watching movies had increasingly turned into 'events' and not an emotionally involving, immersive experience.
