- The third of four singles released by The Comedian's 70s comic Ken Goodwin. 1972 had seen the release of 'Settle Down' backed with Got To Have Tenderness' which I have already uploaded. Goodwin followed this up the next year, 1973, with this single which paired 'So Lucky' with 'Just Like A Woman'. 'So Lucky' had been released in 1972 by Freddie 'Parrotface' Davies. I've already uploaded the earlier Parrotface version.
Not a novelty/comic record but what the hell, thought I'd upload it anyway as it is by a comedian!
Ken Goodwin was one of the most popular stars of ITVs stand-up comedy show of the 70s, The Comedians. His catch-phrase was "settle down now, settle down" and "we're having a good time, aren't we". He also had a very nervous, childish laugh, always laughing at his own poor jokes. Here he sings a couple of non-comedic, straight songs.
Ken Goodwin (7 April 1933 -- 18 February 2012) was a great fan of George Formby. He did various jobs and started performing in working men's clubs, telling jokes and playing the ukelele. He then performed on the Royal Variety Show in 1971 and in a summer season at the London Palladium, before his television break on Opportunity Knocks followed by The Comedians. He also appeared on BBC TVs The Good Old Days.
He died on 18 February 2012 in a home in Rhos-on-Sea, North Wales having lived in nearby Llandudno since his retirement. By coincidence one of his fellow comedians on The Comedians, Frank Carson, died 4 days later.
This is a typical of somebody famous in those days. They HAD to be TALENTED. A great singer and a great comedian as well as being a genuinely nice bloke. Compare to today's rubbish and we'll arrive at the same conclusion.
Finding true love in a current lifecycle is only possible providing we are truthful with each other.
Thank you very much for posting this ... I've been looking for this since forever - a PERFECT SONG FOR MY WIFE of 27 years ... I knew I would marry her since the first time we met in 4th grade ... and two GREAT SONS later .!!! Life's been GOOD !!
so lucky always makes me cry now since it was played at my nans funeral.
Thank you so much for posting this. I´ve looked for it for so many years. I saw him sing this in the early 70s in Nottingham when he starred in Pantomine and this was the single that was on sale in the foyer .... Childhood is back :D :D :D
Ken is everyone, his time will come again.
