  • This has certainly got to be one of my best finds, found on a disused MOD camp built in 1939, we have various original Stitson cast iron cisterns, Shires Lynxes and Dauntless Rubberline cisterns as well as a nice variety of pans with 2 original 1930s / 1940s unbranded pans, Twyfords Herculex and Standard pans from the 1950s as well as a few modern replacements.

Have a feeling I’ve been to this place as I recall seeing so many cast irons here and was surprised they weren’t nicked.

Nice find - they should be restored or salvaged (sent to a reclamation yard) as there is too many old vintage toilets being thrown away for landfill these days!

Looks like they need reinventing, rebuilt and redecorated to be the same but in new clean tidy way completely

Wow, it's weird seeing this place again. I came here twice when I was in the ACF as you may well know. I lost track of the amount of toilets there. There was one block with a row of cast irons like these but I think it was a single row so not this one although I could be wrong. There were 2 HLTP DAUNTLESS 'RUBBERLINE' cisterns in the gents in the NAAFI which you might have seen?
Apart from these two blocks I remember another block which I believe had a mix of Shires Lynx, Shires Puma and DAUNTLESS 'RUBBERLINE' cisterns.
There were also single cubicles in buildings, I remember one having a white HLTP cast iron.
The nissen huts had later low levels installed, DM I think. I wish I'd got films of these all but sadly it was before I started filming.

Oh wow never realised you were here when it was still operating. Didn’t come across the block with a single row of cast irons but I did find the 2 HLTP Dauntless Rubberlines, one had an intact Standard pan and the other looked as if it was a Twyfords Herculex. The buildings with the DM cisterns have had the toilets removed for some reason, altogether I found 17 cast irons. The strangest building was the large brick building in the middle of the site, didn’t think it was a shower block at first, had 2 RD pans in it with a cast iron and newer Rubberline. Obviously there’s a lot more to explore here but I realised the landowner lives on the site and his car was there.

@@idealshanks Heya, yes I went there twice around 2004 2005ish, I couldn't get over the amount of toilets there, kicking myself for not filming them but it was before I started all that. The single row one could have been the double you filmed but I'm just not sure sadly due to memory. There was a building up near the cliff edge thati always wondered what was in it, hard to describe but the building stood out and I think it had some small radar like antenna on it. We were not allowed to go up there so god knows what it was. After ww2 the base was used for soldiers coming back from tours of duty to adjust back to civvy Street from what I gather. Yea I got caught by the land owner there and got told to leave which was fair enough, he came across as a right piece of work though. I'd love to salvage everything out of there cause there's some lovely stuff there, god knows what will happen to the place. It's full of Asbestos so they're probably just leaving it until they can raise the money to have it removed I guess.

Most of the blocks have had the inlets to the cisterns removed, I did find a running water source though and will have to bring a bucket next time I visit.
