  • What a score this one was for 100 bucks! WOOHOO and it was made in USA
    If wondering why sound cuts out on the demo tape it is snippets of sound is claimed. Not the entire song just sections. Go figure, so youtube muted it. Since this was a demo tape the music would most certainly have been royalty free but you know how it goes with the fake copyright claims.
    Several of these on Ebay now. Sellers are on drugs if t hey think a 30 year old VTR is worth this much.
    C $2,703.79 Buy It Now+C $2,273.46 shipping from United States
    This is as bad as someone thinking a Sansui 9090 is worth 5,000 bucks but if someone was standing at my door with 5 grand I think my 9090 would be heading to a new home!

    Dispute fake copyright strikes. Been there, most often they pull out. Eff all those copyright scammers and trolls!
    Love this machine. Built like a tank. 👍
    I miss this ability of analog media to be able to picture search and go through the frames without any latency. Digital media has come a long way, but it still can't do these functions just the way tape formats were capable to. Dash forward or backward too far too fast (either in play or pause) and you'll have to wait a second or more until the decoder/buffer catches up. Just the slider alone sometimes doesn't cut it for precise cueing, in case of long videos.

      I do when I have the paperwork to back up I have a licence for the content. Problem is if you dispute and the claimant doesn't release you get a copyright strike. I dispute all the stuff when it is a claim on musicbakery because i have license for that but nothing for the music on this tape.

    I think this 1989 cassette showcasing Sony professional electronics *should* be transferred to digital format and archived. That broadcast-grade VTR now works like new! Not bad for NTSC (Never The Same Colour) equipment!

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Well first of all there was nothing wrong with ntsc. All the problems that people had with color shift and so forth were generally due to their receiving equipment and not the standard itself. Bad Cable systems bad wiring and just bad televisions. If you ever saw what a broadcast look like from satellite off of analog ntsc it was amazing we were seeing at home what the television stations were actually broadcasting and people that had good antenna watching over The air strong signals also got the same experience but the experience you got from cable TV was something to be desired and again a lot of that was due to the cable operators in ability to correct for cable imbalances and phase shifts and so forth due to their amplifiers. better television is used to signal called vertical interval reference which was part of the vertical interval test signals. That was a sample of color burst that went for half of a line and then a sample of 50% video and black that went for the other half of the same line. Television that had the circuitry built in could be calibrated and they would tune in this signal and make automatic adjustments to the phase chroma level and black level. This was a feature that was built into the pal standard televisions because they were developed later on. many high-end ntse televisions also featured it but the low end ones did not and the television that most people had where the lower end and did not feature this function people that had high-end sets like Curtis Mathis got that vertical interval reference I had a Philips that had it and it had the most beautiful color that you ever saw and it didn't change from channel to channel it was always perfect. Had a little orange light that lit up that said vertical interval reference little neon bulb that would light up. most of the TV stations had it a few did not PBS for example did not have it for the longest time but the bigger stations did and those stations that broadcast that signal the picture was always beautiful. Of course when VCRs came out that was a different story because they did not record the vertical interval reference signal worth a damn they recorded it but the problem is a VCR is not stable enough so it caused the vir signal to change which really messed with televisions that had that feature and you had to actually turn it off because VCRs would sit there and cycle colors when you were trying to play a tape.

      I have some vhs tapes made from early dish network signals I had a box with s video and I could record svhs in 1996 I was not using channel 3 over coax like many users were at this time I also had the vcr on my stereo to

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yeah that was the best way to record using S-Video from an S-Video compatible device keep in mind though that most stuff that was on dish Network was already composite because they just picked it up from broadcast TV so using s video had no real advantage. I used to do the same for my cable box. I always used to record movies that I would rent on LaserDisc onto svhs so I can watch them at my leisure. The laser to store that had the good selection was like two cities over so to go there and rent movies was an ordeal. I got quite friendly with the owner and he would let me rent movies for a few days during the week when rentals were slow. I would go and rent maybe a dozen movies at once and just record them all on the tape even though I didn't have time to watch them. That way I could take all the movies back watch the copies. It's arrangement worked well for quite a while I would go out say Monday night after work rent 10 movies and then record them all. Return them all Thursday. Never charged me a late fee because he knew I had a long drive and let me have them for three nights. Worked out well because I got lots of movies in my collection and then I could watch them at my leisure. Then he shut down his store and put all of his movies on sale and I got a bunch of cool titles on laser which I still have today. Of course eventually laser just gained in popularity I may started renting them at the local shop which was good well it lasted and then DVD came along and lasers just fizzled out.

    Correct me from your End.. A long time friend and Former Broadcast Engineer of 30 some years in the Industry. told Me there were 2 versions of the U-Matic System. Industrial and Broadcast ?
    I remember My High School getting a single U-Matic top Loader. I got to use it a lot as I was the Top AV Nerd and had good Camera Skills 1976-79. I wonder if any of the old German Fest recordings are still around??

      Yes umatic started as industrial / home and then a broadcast top tier model was released. These SP models were the top of the line. They were not as good as betacam only did 300 lines vs 340, and used hetrodine color as opposed to direct or component but they were good enough for ENG / EFP work.

    I just got a VO-7600 for $50 on Facebook Marketplace. It had a free tape stuck inside. I managed to get the tape out by manually unthreading it. It will load up and play, but if you hit stop, eject, fast forward, or fast rewind it will get stuck in standby and do nothing at all and the tape gets stuck inside. Not even powering off and on and unit will fix it. I have to manually unthread the tape and then the machine will eject. I tried boiling the idler tire with dish soap, but it didn't do anything. The unit works fine if I remove the cassette loader and trick it into thinking there's a tape inside. The idler belt seems to be fine, but I even replaced that and it still didn't fix it.

    You say that Umatic SP sends Y/C like SVHS or Hi8, but does not older non-SP Umatic machines also have a Y/C connector? Isn't Dub connector essentially a Y/C connector, just different frequencies compared to SVHS? Was not the Dub connector one of the feature of the BVU series, even non-SP?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If not mistaken the dub connector sends video as lumanence but the color is passed as 688hkz. Rf sends the FM video and chroma from the tape. The sp portable VO8800 can take y/c from a camera.
      Betacam SP passes component signals. Either YVU or RGB. Uses 3 cables.

    When you clean heads with a fingernail, do you hold your nail so that it scrapes off a head - in this case how do you make sure you don't dislodge the head? Or do you hold it so it sort of slides over the head, like when entering a parking lot with spikes on the ground? Can you show it in a closeup?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Back side of the nail not the edge. I have shown it many times did a video a few years back about Sony garbage hi8 tape and showed the process. Just back side of the nail very lightly. Won't hurt the head. Learned this trick from cheif engineer at the tv station i did intern at.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It needed the reel table lube and had 2 slipping belts. One changed and the other just cleaned and all is good. The bvw75 will be interesting. It records both betacam and Betacam SP depending on the tape. Sp used a metal tape as opposed to oxide. My other betacam SP will play an oxide tape but not record one. It also has AFM audio (4 channels). Interesting how they did that. They added the AFM to the chroma channel as because chroma only used 1.6mhz of bandwidth there was extra spectrum unused on the chroma track. My other betacam deck only has linear audio.

    Hey Dave, showing that Sony video there were blocks of muted sound. This cant be a copyright issues is it? How are we the viewer is suppose to enjoy watching this video? If copyright is the issue then dont show it. I hate watching a video like this and all of a sudden mute sound at the core of this video. How can you upload this video to TH-cam if there's pockets of muted sound!

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes that's why the sound is muted. Some dick made bullshit copyright claims on sections of the background music. Not the entire song but just portions. This is how they do it. Crooks make fake claims and then take the ad revenue. If I want my ad rev i have to let TH-cam mute the claimed sections of sound. The music would have certainly been royalty free music as this was a promo video. I get the same bullshit with musicbakery music. The crooks don't claim the entire song, they claim a 30 seconds section right in the middle, a guitar solo or something and that puts a claim on the entire video.
