Great and fun video. With almost any hobby/love/passion it is like jumping into an ocean. You jump in and you can see some cool things, discover beautiful things, learn sooooo much....and still understand that 90% of things out there you will never see/learn in one life time lol. To me not knowing and STILL learning about stuff like you mentioned 20+ years into your passion is what keeps is fun. Keeps something new around each corner. For us to be able to say after decades of doing something "Oh, I didn't know that" is a blessing. :) Some of my favorites are hearing songs and going "OMG, I didn't know XYZ was cover song" or "I had no idea that beat was taken from this old soul song" or things like that. It keeps it cool and fun. Like what would be more cool than if some buddies sent you over a few of those standards you mentioned.
Very refreshing video more then anything ngl, I also had a bunch of folded paper as a make shift foot for my old Numark turntable for about 8 years 😂 I’d be interested in that Red Hot Chili Peppers Blood Sugar record 🙋♂️🙋♂️ Also only found out about matrix’s etc till I started helping out in a local record shop 😅
If there are rules to this hobby then I’m breaking all of them. I was that kid who could recite all the trivia about my favorite artists growing up. I turned 64 today and not so much anymore, now it’s all about filling holes in my collection and exploring genres I ignored as a teen. Deep diving into the blues right now while beginning to explore jazz as I just inherited about 100 or so records. Happy hunting!
@@PiecesofVinyl Not a great selling tool to tell people you have played your records with a shitty needle and then say you want any of these?Just saying.
I would advise selling your records on the channel. I have seen items such as records, baseball cards, and antiques sold on people's TH-cam channels. You have the subs, the audience, and the channel already. And, if you needed help, since I'm in Philly myself, I'd even offer to help!
Agree with what you’re saying regarding some record stores charging silly prices. I get that’s it tough, but very few people are willing to pay more simply to keep them in business. It’s not the way forward. It won’t end well if the trend continues.
In my opinion, a record show is like walking into a store and just adding 30 percent to a price. Maybe you can find unusual records but with the intra-nets you can pretty much find what you want. I waited in line at a record store day for hours and the store didn’t have the copy I even wanted, went home, logged into discogs and got that copy delivered to my door, again, maybe it’s lazy.
I am in the same boat with about half of these you stated. Its impossible to know everything about records and music and history. Its what keeps me interested in music/records and the vinyl community. I never stop learning. There is ALWAYS something out there that I can learn.
I'm literally doing some things you listed right now!😄 Just got back into vinyl after about 30 or so years of just cds and streaming. If you lived closer to me (I'm in Arkansas) I would probably buy most of the albums you showed. Do what you want (I know I will). Liked and subscribed.👍🏼
-Rocco, dude….ive never listened to Aja all the way through either. Not necessarily interested to either…lol -I’ve never gone to a RSD. You’re not alone, man, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with asking questions. Part of the fun is learning new sh*t anyway. 👍🔊😊🎶
Having just got back 'into' collecting and watching a few different channels for inspiration be that albums or equipment, it became apparent that i had never listened to AJA. I rectified this by streaming it as I do where possible before buying a physical copy. Whilst the plaudits for AJA are far and wide. Im glad i haven't bought it, be that for a cheap price let alone the UHQR recording. I was hugely underwhelmed (apologies to all those fans out there). Anyhow just wanted to say fantastic content, channel and production. Cheers
No worries because.... 1) well, I had Donald Fagen's 'Nightfly' before I had 'Aja'. 2) what is a stylus? LOL 3) most record shows are overrated 4) my stack of vinyl I want to get rid of is also growing 5) every day is Record Store Day 6) bad records may have a sentimental value too, so... 7) who is Steve Hoffman? 8) i spend 3 hrs a day on the train to and from work, so digital is essential to my music hobby. but some albums are also reserverd for 'first listen on vinyl' for sure 9) you can't know and listen to everything, even ellington or parker or the temptations 😂
I commend you for not hear Aja all the way through!!! I’ll never understand the hero worship that band is getting in the VC these days I always felt they were great musicians but the music was sterile too perfect Studio musicians not a real band Now I guess it’s hip to love Steely Dan Maybe the fascination with Chads UHQRs has a lot to do with all this Steely Dan stuff
They have down a good job of using jazz musicians and getting them into the mainstream. I can appreciate their production quality but I don’t fawn over them. I’m more into the Headhunters or Return to Forever for that kind of stuff anyways.
Cool video. I was surprised about the D Ellington confession. When you said very little to no Duke Ellington in your collection, my two cats walked out of the tv room, my goldfish won't eat again and my ornamental plant just died.
@@PiecesofVinyl I never recommend albums because if you don't like it, then you won't pay attention to any other recommendation I might have. BUT....
