Miyako is a classically trained concert pianist and the group's keyboardist, and lead guitarist... She writes quite a lot of the music for the group, but the others do help. Miho (bassist, until early in 2022 or late in 2021) and Haruna (Drummer) were the founders. Asami is the vocalist and was the driving force in getting the vocals all done in English. Midori is the other guitarist, rounds out the group. All of these ladies are amazing performers. Asami spent time in the USA, learning and performing Ballet, which is why you see her floating about the stage quite a lot of the time. This particular song is my favorite because of the Chopin intro. Okay, you asked for a critique, so... If you feel you must interject a comment, please pause the video and then do so. The reason I suggest this is that when you speak over the video, you are not listening or watching the video and may (probably will) miss something. Miyako’s whole life until age 18 was geared towards her becoming a concert pianist. Then she decided to teach herself the guitar… from a book!. As a non musician, I can see the reason she’s so good on the guitar because that Chopin piece is a left hand exercise (I’m told) so her left hand dexterity is as good as if not better than most guitarists who have been playing for a lot longer. I fell in love with Lovebites a little over a year ago, and I’ve been utterly smitten ever since. I now don’t play any other music and spend my (U.K.) evenings watching others enjoy the band (almost) as much as I do… Lovely reaction. “Mental” in fact…🙂😉

Talent, yes...but also years of extreme dedication. Welcome to the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. Whatever the description, I think one can say they have given metal a badly needed makeover and maybe a new lease on life. They have themselves said that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. This is one of their usual first songs for reactors, and rightly so--you get a good sense of the band. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like a demon). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It takes a little history study to understand the lyrics of the Swan Song. In 1831, the anti-government movement (November Revolution), initiated by officers and the public against the Polish government under substantial control of the Russian Empire, failed due to the direct intervention of the Russian army. Chopin heard the news during his performance trip to France. He lost his country of return. Around the time of the collapse of Warsaw, his agent announced "Etude OP10, No12". His agents exaggerated and promoted the song, eventually becoming known as the "Revolutionary Etude." Miyako, who had been taking piano lessons since the age of three, composed "Swan Song" with reference to "Revolutionary Etude" and Dvorak's "New World". Asami, who has been studying classical ballet since the age of two, wrote the lyrics by overlaying the image of "Swan Lake" on Chopin's episode. This song is a requiem dedicated to the dead warriors who fought to regain his hometown. Ironically, the Russian Republic, which revolutionized Imperial Russia, is now invading Poland's neighbor Ukraine.

In a ''male dominated'' scene, you will often here guys tell each other ''that is metal'' when referring to something. Someone breaks a leg and keeps playing...''that is metal" etc. I love the fact that these tiny women from Japan feel free to be feminine, wear a dress, and then kick ass on stage. ''THAT IS METAL''. Lovebites is my favorite active metal band.

All of the members are multi-instrumentalists to varying degree, except for singer Asami afaik. But she does play some piano. And she has demonstrated her piano skills during their concerts before. This is the song that shows Miyako the virtuoso. Playing elite level in two instruments. This is more towards the beautiful sounding Lovebites. Fast, but not the pure shreddiness.
Miyako is a classically trained pianist to concert level. She has started playing piano at age 3 and has been playing the piano for over 30 years. She took up playing the guitar at age 18 and is equally competent on the guitar. Miyako is also responsible for writing the majority of the bands music. The rest of the band: Midori on guitar, Miho on bass guitar, Haruna on drums, and Asami on vocals. They are all excellent musicians and play some of the very best power metal around, and in my opinion are better than most male metal bands.

Front singer a former ballerina. Yes the woman playing piano is a former concerto piano virtuoso started at 3 years old. She started play guitar at 18 years old. All of them are not just only extremely talented. They have gone thru much musical education and offcourse training thru all of their life. With their new amazing basist Fami, they have done what is ranked as one of the best metal albums of 2023. Regardless metal genre. On the album their playing firstly powermetal, Trash, and they also have some symphonic metal influences. You should really listen and react to some of their new stuff. But sincerely they have not done a bad song or album. Even the earlier ones are just amazing. And the musicianship is thru the roof... I cant name a single metal band sound and do their technical things that they do in a live setting... Haruna the drummer is one of the best powermetal drummers ive heard. This 4'9" little nuclear reactor is just amazing. Paired with two amazing lead guitarist that does jawdropping solos and the new amazing basist and the lead singer. I just recently watched a video of them in studio doing a live session. Miyako the pianist, who is symphony level trained, plays her Dean guitar AND a keyboard, AT THE SAME TIME! well the impressive bit is that someone in a metal band actually plays more than one instrument on the same insane level! Lots of practice needed! But achievable as we can see.
It's truely amazing but let me explain just one thing: noone can "just do this". What we see is not even talent, it's people who had some talent and used years or hard practice to get skill. And the result is great :)

Start by watching 17 year old Tina playing the 3rd movement of Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’. I would love to see your reaction.

You seem surprised at the talent in this genre. The musicians and singers in metal are world class. Its not Justin, Demi, Bruno, Olivia, Katy, Kelly, etc. Symphonic Metal in particular is not dominated by men. Try Nightwish, Epica, Delain, The Gathering, Within Temptation, Battle Beast, Ameranthe, Beyond the Black. All of these groups have female lead singers. I'm sure you will be converted.

As a non musician, I can see the reason she’s so good on the guitar because that Chopin piece is a left hand exercise (I’m told) so her left hand dexterity is as good as if not better than most guitarists who have been playing for a lot longer. I fell in love with Lovebites a little over a year ago, and I’ve been utterly smitten ever since. I now don’t play any other music and spend my (U.K.) evenings watching others enjoy the band (almost) as much as I do… Lovely reaction. “Mental” in fact…🙂😉
and the other guitarist Midori started learning to play guitar at a guitar school at her 20 which is incredible. They both were playing in high performing professional bands in five years!! Such gifted musicians.

Talent, yes...but also years of extreme dedication. Welcome to the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. Whatever the description, I think one can say they have given metal a badly needed makeover and maybe a new lease on life. They have themselves said that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics.
They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters.
This is one of their usual first songs for reactors, and rightly so--you get a good sense of the band. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like a demon). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." It takes a little history study to understand the lyrics of the Swan Song.
In 1831, the anti-government movement (November Revolution), initiated by officers and the public against the Polish government under substantial control of the Russian Empire, failed due to the direct intervention of the Russian army. Chopin heard the news during his performance trip to France. He lost his country of return. Around the time of the collapse of Warsaw, his agent announced "Etude OP10, No12". His agents exaggerated and promoted the song, eventually becoming known as the "Revolutionary Etude."
Miyako, who had been taking piano lessons since the age of three, composed "Swan Song" with reference to "Revolutionary Etude" and Dvorak's "New World".
Asami, who has been studying classical ballet since the age of two, wrote the lyrics by overlaying the image of "Swan Lake" on Chopin's episode.
This song is a requiem dedicated to the dead warriors who fought to regain his hometown.
Ironically, the Russian Republic, which revolutionized Imperial Russia, is now invading Poland's neighbor Ukraine.

Yup! They ARE METAL by purpose, they can't help being cute. 56yo metalhead who found his new favorite band about a year and a half ago. Their "worst" songs are better than many groups better ones.
All of the members are multi-instrumentalists to varying degree, except for singer Asami afaik. But she does play some piano. And she has demonstrated her piano skills during their concerts before. It's Miyako who's performing the more complex parts though. Asami has also certainly undergone some form of vocal training and she composes music for the band. This is a group of really talented ladies.
And, Asami dances ballet.

A world class concert pianist started playing at 3 years old. Picked up the guitar at 17. All things relative she's still in infant in guitar years. and she also plays the bass.. well.
Watch her fingers on the guitar, because of the piano for so long her fingers are like butter. They play heavy power metal to straight up gorgeous ballads and everything in between something for everybody.There's a song called "EDGE OF THE WORLD" it's a super beautiful ballad it showcases ASAMI voice as well as MIYOKO'S piano skills.

This is the song that shows Miyako the virtuoso. Playing elite level in two instruments. This is more towards the beautiful sounding Lovebites. Fast, but not the pure shreddiness.
Miyako is a classically trained pianist to concert level. She has started playing piano at age 3 and has been playing the piano for over 30 years. She took up playing the guitar at age 18 and is equally competent on the guitar. Miyako is also responsible for writing the majority of the bands music.
The rest of the band: Midori on guitar, Miho on bass guitar, Haruna on drums, and Asami on vocals.
They are all excellent musicians and play some of the very best power metal around, and in my opinion are better than most male metal bands.
At last, Midori and Miyako have begun playing guitar again .

Front singer a former ballerina. Yes the woman playing piano is a former concerto piano virtuoso started at 3 years old. She started play guitar at 18 years old. All of them are not just only extremely talented. They have gone thru much musical education and offcourse training thru all of their life.
With their new amazing basist Fami, they have done what is ranked as one of the best metal albums of 2023. Regardless metal genre.
On the album their playing firstly powermetal, Trash, and they also have some symphonic metal influences.
You should really listen and react to some of their new stuff. But sincerely they have not done a bad song or album. Even the earlier ones are just amazing. And the musicianship is thru the roof...
I cant name a single metal band sound and do their technical things that they do in a live setting...
Haruna the drummer is one of the best powermetal drummers ive heard. This 4'9" little nuclear reactor is just amazing. Paired with two amazing lead guitarist that does jawdropping solos and the new amazing basist and the lead singer. They are one of the best metal bands in the world in our current time.

I just recently watched a video of them in studio doing a live session. Miyako the pianist, who is symphony level trained, plays her Dean guitar AND a keyboard, AT THE SAME TIME! It's truely amazing but let me explain just one thing: noone can "just do this". What we see is not even talent, it's people who had some talent and used years or hard practice to get skill. And the result is great :)

You seem surprised at the talent in this genre. The musicians and singers in metal are world class. Its not Justin, Demi, Bruno, Olivia, Katy, Kelly, etc.
Symphonic Metal in particular is not dominated by men. Try Nightwish, Epica, Delain, The Gathering, Within Temptation, Battle Beast, Ameranthe, Beyond the Black. All of these groups have female lead singers. I'm sure you will be converted.
