We have morels in Pennsylvania and my brother-in-law says when you rinse the mushrooms to use a bowl and keep the water that you rinse them in because that water has spores in it and he takes that water and pours it onto the ground outside and it grows more mushrooms there every year.

Mary I just loved this video. I am 70 years old and have been mushroom hunting since I was a little girl. I am no longer able to walk much for any distance so thank you for letting us hunt with you. So exciting when you found some beauties and oh that sandwich looks so good. I sure remember their smell and taste that I'll never forget!!!! From an Ohio fan🌺

I was born & raised in northeastern iowa and we went mushroom hunting every spring!! My mom would soak them I salt water for an hour too. Then she would dip them in an egg bath, then cover with flour & fry them up. We ate them as an appetizer or as a side vegetable with our meal. We considered them a precious delicacy! They were hard to find and as you said only a couple weeks in the year. Dad always said wet springs made them more prevalent! What a treat! My mouth watered watching you fry them!!!

I really enjoyed your outdoor hunt. Especially your faithful companion….(“I don’t understand what my human is doing, but I’m with her to the end.”). The cooked mushrooms look delicious,
The countryside is beautiful-you must have had so much fun there as a kid.

Neither have I but I’m sure willing to give it a try. I can just imagine that walking through her creek area of the wonderful aromas wafting up to greet her, and I know if I were there I’d be saying this smells like grandma’s house, where I spent many hours playing in the creek near by.
The memory of that aroma is still with me 70 years later. I’d love a place just like her’s but without snow! 🤗

Hi Mary, I sure miss mushroom hunting in Central Illinois. Thanks for taking us with you. One hint you may want to do next hunt. Put your treasures in a mesh bag, like an onion bag. That way spores can spill out in their natural area instead of being lost in the bag. We always used cracker crumbs, and yes soak in salt water because here those squigglies are down in the pores.

Oh the memories. I lived in Western PA and we picked mushrooms under an old apple tree on our road. I remember the sandwich, with just buttered bread and fried mushrooms. Oh how I wish I had one today. Where I live now, there are no mushrooms. I am 80 and that taste still stays with me today. Enjoy yours while you still have them. Thanks for sharing.

Here in the southeastern USA we call those mushrooms "Dryland Fish". My Mother fried them as you do in an iron skillet and she'd serve them to us with biscuits & gravy (both baked & made in iron skillets) for breakfast...talk about a hearty meal which made our Dryland Fish hunting the day before more than worth it. We lived on our 22 acres, mostly mountains, with freshwater springs & the Dryland Fish would spring up in little groves near the watery areas. Back then we carried paper grocery bags when hunting. ...Very nice video. Thank you for your time & work & sharing with everyone. ...This brings back memories of my beloved family all now in Eternity. Our simple lives without indoor water/plumbing, electrical appliances, and our blessed huge gardens & animals & nearby family made our lives complete. Your channel is one of the few featuring folks who lived lives very similar to ours.

I've eaten mushrooms for many years, but I've never had a mushroom sandwich. It looked good. Your property is beautiful. While watching Twinkle follow you, I had this silly thought, "If Mary fell and hurt herself, would Twinkle fetch help like a dog might?" Shrooming is what we call it here in Michigan. We look for the blacks, browns and blondes like what you have. We grill ours for our grilled burgers. We rinse ours in salt water and pour outside so the spores can germinate. We also place them in a netted potato/onion bag so the spores can drop onto the woods floor surface for germination.

In the pan we put ghee and let the mushrooms "bruzeln" Salt, Pepper and 1 Tablespoon Majoran. Than we put whippedcrem to the mushrooms let it cook and we eat Salt-Potatoes to it. Hello Mary, I love mushrooms and I used to go mushroom hunting as a child. Just one suggestion from me . I was told that you should not remove the whole mushroom stem from the ground, better to cut them with the knife at the bottom and leave the roots inside the soil, this way they can multiple and grow back again in a different spot... Maybe this is why some years you don't find too many, as you have removed too much from the ground? As for cooking - they would also be lovely cut into smaller pieces , fried on a pan and then mixed and added to scrambled eggs ! Absolutely delicious. I loved your video and the sandwich was so yummy to look at , it made me hungry ! :)) And your kitty following you everywhere you go, just so cute ...

Best memories ever, as my Grandpa would use his cane and point them out to us , he couldn't bend down so we were his helpers. But all I came home with was a good case of poison ivy !!! From someone who knows nothing about morel mushrooms, I just wanted to tell you that your video was peaceful and serene. Sometimes it has nothing to do with the content, but everything about the content, if you know what I mean. ❤️

We hunt mushrooms here. The way we fry then is dipping in flour then beaten egg, then crushed crackers. Fry in oil snd eat.
The mushroom sandwich is new to me. Will have to try that next season.

I too get extremely excited when I find a morel...try hard to find at least ONE every spring. Another thing I spend a whole lot of time hunting (searching) for are whitetail deer antler sheds. I walk up and down my hills for hours!!! Found 4 so far this year...now I will hunt for those morels. Enjoy the hunt almost as much as the "find"! Thank you for sharing and hopefully you get out there to find more. I'm off on my search before I get back to gardening. Went from 40 degrees here in Western Wisconsin to 80....gotta love it. Have a great day.

Haven’t had them in years. They are definitely one of the most delicious woodsy finds. In Central WV (where I grew up) they sometimes use the term “Molly Moochers” 🍄 🤤

So interesting! I live in Eastern Canada and locals here also forage in the spring for a delicacy called "fiddleheads". It is the sprout of a type of fern that grows along the river banks and wet areas here; resembling the curled tip of a violin/fiddle. They are delicious!

Hi Mary, we hunt morels in Indiana as well. We always gather them in netting such as an old potato sack or onion sack to allow spores from the mushrooms to fall through to the ground as you carry them throughout the woods. This will help with new growth for next year!

I love mushrooms but my spouse doesn't so I don't get them often, just canned ones that I toss into stews sometimes, and he picks his out and they end up on my plate. These look delicious, how nice to pick them fresh. 😋

This video brings back fond memories of mushroom hunting with my dad when I was a little girl . He would cook them the same way that you did with flour and butter, what a treat !
