Karl "feedback" Precoda! ... but no Kendra Smith. I saw them at the Troubadour in '84 or '85 after "The Medicine Show" ... with Paul Cutler. They didn't play too many songs from "The Days of Wine and Roses". I think they only played "Tell Me When It's Over" during the regular set. After playing that song, Steve Wynn joked that none of us knew that song. Later in the set, I yelled "Halloween", but Steve Wynn waved "no" with his finger. For the encore, I yelled "The Days of Wine and Roses". Steve Wynn thought about it for a second, and said "here's a song from the past" and they played it. It was one of the best performances ever!

I saw them in '83 in LA, I think the Troubadour. Then I played there in an open mike..

My favorite 80s group on the cusp of becoming just an excellent bar band w a great singer-songwriter...

Love the album, The Days of Wine and Roses, ever since I got it in 1982/3. Listened to it 1000's of times trying to figure out the motivations for the lyrics, or knowing very well what the songs were about ...hey I was 16 or 17..i knew more then....

the original lineup with karl precoda on guitar. steve wynn’s primary virtue was singing a whole lot like lou reed.

Precoda was amazing. It was a bummer that he left the band.

    Even better live.
Most songs I like are rarely as good live but they did a great job...that bass line is just awesome
I think this an 80s son but the first time I heard it was on wrong turn and I thought it sounded like the perfect 90s song.

Reminds me of the Velvet Underground and The Feelies. With a bit of Jim Morrison thrown in.

I saw them in either 1982 or ‘83 in Providence. Problem was their lead guy was sick and couldn’t sing. They tried their best that night but I can imagine how tough it is to get on stage and perform when your throat is sore and you feel like crap.

I saw this band a few times around this time. They were one of my favorite live bands at that time. I almost forgot how dark and intense they were and then this pops up. This was during Regan, and people have forgotten that it was a dark and scary time for a lot of people, and the art and music from that time reflects that

Anyone know when (exactly?) or where? I saw them do this song in Dallas in August of 1984, and I think I realized that that had been the final show with Karl? (But I could be wrong.)
Every October 31, I play this loud. Nice to see a live version I had never noticed before.

I know, but it's extremely rare. I saw them in early '84 and Kendra was already gone. It was the Golden Bear in HB, CA (long since destroyed). What an amazing show. They did the Coltrane song from Medicine Show and it was an amazing 15 minutes of Precoda feedback.
