It isn’t even not knowing the body. It’s misogyny!! Thinking less of women, of our intelligence, abilities, autonomy, value. I’ve had more than one male doctor look past me and speak to the male who was with me at an appointment and speak to THEM about my health as if I was a child in their care, rather than THE PATIENT whose health was being discussed. Had symptoms I’ve shared dismissed as being “ caused by sadness” and other asininity.

I'm confused, it's customary to validate an STI diagnosis with a series of tests to confirm suspicions. Why wasn't this done? You test for ALL STIs if the patient admits to being sexually active and suspects an infection.

I remember Oprah telling a story about a doctor telling her that since she was Oprah Winfrey the doctor wasn't going to mess up. What happens to those of us who are not Oprah?? If HALLE BERRY's doctor can't get it right, what chance do the rest of us have????

STD/ STI testing isn’t even complex.
I can’t say this enough times. Black women are treated horribly by the medical system ESPECIALLY in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. And this includes both black and white doctors. I have heard with my own ears as a student/trainee and as a patient how black women are degraded in this field/ there is an automatic stereotype of black women as being uninformed loud overly dramatic and hypersexual. I don’t know if the woman on the panel was a physician or not but to me the major point of Halle coming out with this interaction was to point out the absolute racism involved in it. Interesting that the guest didn’t even touch on that. Her interest was wetness. Also good to talk about perimenopause but that’s not really what Halle was calling out. This person was just not astute in her response to that situation. We need to call out this racism and misogyny in medicine. Missed opportunity for this panelist (if she’s an MD).
This is an excerpt from her segment on the Karen Hunter Show daily on Sirius XM. The introduction is always made at the beginning of the segment. Dr Amen is a licensed MD AND a Naturopathic Physician. You obviously are not familiar with this program. If you aren’t the Best of the Best in your field For Black people you will Not be on this show. Do your homework before you criticize people/ programs you don’t know! Also, very early in the segment the point was made about medical malfeasance against Black women. Listen again closely. Better yet, invest in Sirius XM and listen to the entire program!

I was also misdiagnosed with herpes by my doctor. And he even prescribed me medication all before he did any testing.

When i was 54 I went to OBGYN the only question he asked was do I want him to check for std....not are you feeling any menopausal symptoms. I may have said a few choice words to him but it's 4 yrs later and I've not gone to see any OBGYN since
Try to look for a sister. Some of us can have terrible bedside manner also, but men obgyn it’s more likely IMO.
Make sure you find a new doctor, so you can get Pap smears at the recommended intervals. Cancer screening is important.
@michelleej I know. I've been telling myself my last pap was fine sooooo 🤷🏾♀️. But whenever I've thought about it or spoken about it I'm angry..ok so angry isn't right word. Furious. When it happened I filed a complaint with my insurance company and the DA but was told doctors can ask whatever questions they deem necessary.
Spoke to a coworker (YT) yesterday come to find out she goes to the practice also, deals with him and he's a piece of crap and has several complaints. But she will continue to deal with him.

I hate that this happened to you. Unfortunately, this is too often the case in the American healthcare system and going to a female OB, even a sistah, doesn't always fix it. I would highly recommend you look for a midwife in your area who does well woman care, in addition to maternity care. The experience is night and day compared to your typical OBGYN. And I say this with first hand experience, as a mama of four who hasn't been to an OBGYN in more than 16 years.
I apply Vaseline weekly not having sex this keeps me comfortable and painless. No HRT for me.

If she was having sex and it was causing friction injuries, due to dryness, I could see how it could be confused by a doctor who had no interest in proper protocols. When I was younger I had convinced myself I had and sti. I went to the doctor and cried and all the theatrics. She ran all of the tests, but she was sure to inform me that the herpes test is not generally included in the screening. It is a separate test that they don’t give you unless you ask for it or display symptoms. Luckily, all tests were negative. That bitch told me to drink more water.🤷🏾♀️
