I'm actually getting the base model with 8/256 gigabytes. The Air is great for the price right now, but if you add ram it's a 30% price increase (where I live at least). @@nitishagarwal1946 from what I was able to find from other reviews, if you're keeping the laptop for a long time and if you can afford it, better get the 16GB. I'd like to just mention though that from copist's video itself when he pulled up WebStorm it seemed to eat up a lot of RAM, but if I'm not mistaken the JetBrains team is apparently still working on optimizing their products for ARM, so RAM consumption could improve in the next few months. If you plan to use it as your work machine, 16GB is probably the better option so you can have more room for multitasking. As for me I'm only getting the MBA because my current personal laptop has died and I don't have anything for personal use. I have realized that I won't be coding on it for long periods of time, and right now I'm really after the 14" MBP that is rumored to come out next year, so I don't think I really plan now on keeping the MBA for a long time.

I'm curious about WoW. Since you will be maxing out for a few hours I think you will get a better result with the fan on a MBP. Hard to defend spending another 30% on the price for a fan and a touch bar I'd rather be without though. Question is how big of a difference it is.

I have 16" MBP, I love its big screen for coding. And this 13" Macbook Air M1 isn't too bad either! And 16" MBP is obviously heavier, I can't hold it with one hand for long. But I can hold MBA easily with one hand 😄 both have pros and cons
it works a little slower but not that noticeable or an issue since it runs on rosetta2. The m1 preview build is nice and super fast but its a little buggy. VSCode is still fine to develop on and I am loving m1 mac mini and will be better soon when they fix the bugs and release the m1 build.
I’m also a developer and I have switched from OSX to Linux/PopOS. I have the best workflow setup for productivity and coding on a much cheaper and more powerfull laptop than Macbooks. works like a charm. The only issue is that the android emulator has not been ported and updated for m1 mac so you can not use that yet. A very early development build is out and it works pretty well but very buggy though I am loving ios flutter development on my m1 mac mini and I do not mind pulling and testing the android version on my 2015 MacBook pro because when I am actually developing my hands are not on fire from the MacBook pro overheating from one vs code flutter project open with the simulator.
