Hey Samurai, Canadian living in Australia here. I was in a pretty dark place when I started watching your content. Your exuberance and love of the craft pushed me to try my own hand at woodworking. Starting with a Stanley 4 1/2 smoothing plane and sand paper sharpened chisels, I very quickly fell in love with the craft. It’s been eight years since then. I made my own work bench, with joinery of course. Not to mention permanent fixtures of furniture we use in our daily lives. I’m not a huge commenter, but I wanted to tell you that you truly changed a life. Your passion got me into the craft and Paul Sellers, taught me how to accessible it was. I am, and always will be in your debt. From one Canuck to another, cheers eh!
I've been hobby woodworking now for about 15 years. I genuinely believe I've become pretty good at the craft. However, every time I see one of your build videos, I realise I still have plenty of room for improvement. Another beautiful piece of craftsmanship mate. Thank you.
Yeah, in my world I’m ‘that guy’. They’ve seen my slabs. They’ve seen my tools. I generally feel pretty good about myself….then I come to TH-cam and see these channels and I don’t like the way it makes me feel. Lol. It’s like, ‘Ok, I’ve got a decent set up. I just need to….ummm….get a dust collection system, get a much better band saw. My table saw game is looking pretty weak. Get me one of those, no wait, he’s got two of those. I guess I need a bigger bench and expand my ‘shop’(shed)…’. Then I start getting nauseous and cry just a little bit when I realize that their clamps alone is worth double my entire setup
@@u.sonomabeach6528I somewhat agree with this, but only bc I’m sure you’re probably pretty good at woodworking! Give yourself grace where you fall short. Production only continues to grow organically, not when it’s forced! I have so much to learn as well, but I make a couple extra hundred bucks a week doing entryway tables! It’s not joinery, or high end hardwood either!
@@u.sonomabeach6528 I feel the pain! Though I've got to say, unlimited tooling does not make you a better wood worker. I really believe that learning and perfecting your skills with minimal tools is all part of the process. Most of us started with cheap or old chisels, a generic wooden mallet, a mass produced saw and a budget metal roofers square, but we upgraded as we improved.
Never lost It, excellent. You'll never know the joy your videos bring us all from all over the world. I've been watching you're videos for a long time. Love yourself, go easy on yourself and have fun. We'll all have your back on this channel 🤟
Good to see you back in the wood shop, you were one of the first woodworkers i stumbled across when i first started. Ive always been so impressed with your craftmanship. Cheers
Well Sir.. I Have been a Subscriber for a While now. You sold me on your Wood working content, but I did fall in love with following the Off grid life you are building too! (The soul searching content was not lost on me either!) These Stools are indeed "Sexy"!! Please don't forget to visit your Shop more often and please take us along!
It is amazing to see you back in the shop, that is what I needed. Don't get me wrong, I understand, respect and enagage with the other content of searching for purpose - but these shop videos are special to this aspiring woodworker. The bring inspiration and light to better understand the craft you have so well mastered... thank you!
Been following you for a number of years through your life changes and it’s great to see you do some furniture building. Your art and craft is always such a great inspiration.
Dear Jesse, I want the plans, want to make/copy these stools. Please please please.... Request from an italian Samurai Shiatsushi... I love seeing you making things, and am completely on your side with the cabin project. I even thought to come to help you...but it is a long trip!!!! Un abbraccio a te e tutta la family, 🙏🏼❤️
OK, admit it. You had fun on this one! Such a pleasure to see you back in the shop. I admire the tenacity and versatility on the cabin and remote property. But candidly, it's always your woodworking that really lights me up. (BTW, thanks again fir the wisdom on Odie's Oil. You really out on the right track last year. It's simply wonderful stuff, in every way. So much better than my previou, ,decades-long favorite, Watco Danish Oil.)
Wait, did I see a Timber framing book on that stool! Love that you're back in the shop. I also love that you're in the shop. It always brings me peace of mind. When I create something! Peace Jess!!
I've been with you from the beginning and i love your passion for the craft. These stools are amazing - just like you. Keep crafting - i can feel your spirit rising when you do what you love. You should really make a branding iron to use on your projects. Lots of love from Sweden!
These look great. I believe the most under appreciated part of this build is going to the foot rest. Great design and interesting approach to shaping them. Good to have you back
I think the skill is still there 😂 As always a fantastic result when Jamie starts to do the wood work.. Love to you and all of your family from me// Micke, Sweden
Very nice design. I really like that thicker bottom rail. I love that finish and the Sapele is so beautiful. I had some heavy duty exterior doors made for a client from this wood for a soundproof room that had double pained laminated glass. Gorgeous wood, and super strong. They weighed a ton and I had to carry them up 4 flights of windy stairs in San Francisco.
I watch this video (and many others like it) and get a vibe that you're just like "prob gonna throw together some stools real quick" and everything goes perfectly and you do it quickly and it turns out incredible. There's maybe only some truth to that, but regardless, your craftsmanship is extremely inspiring. Great work (again).
I'm pretty new to woodworking as an adult. Starting up again 20+ years after doing it in school. I've followed you for a number of years and am incredibly impressed with your work. The way you made the cut on the table saw at 5:40 would make me terrified of kickback. Is it just the angle of the camera?
Just wow! Thanks for mixing up the Samurai content with a wood working video. My inner “safety nerd” was triggered a bit, but know better than to comment. It’s just that we love our Samurai Carpenter content and hope to see vids for decades to come!
Spectacular work as usual, Jesse! Happy belated birthday as well - the big Four-Oh! I'll be 43 next month - in a very similar spot to yourself with regards to reinventing yourself. Homesteading, etc...
I've watched this one a few times now. We're getting ready for a kitchen remodel that will give us a bar, so barstools are on the project list and these are the most beautiful I've seen. You sort of skipped over the mortise cutting steps that require angled mortises (or angled tenons). Could you explain how you did that? It looked like maybe you cut a straight center section on the mortises with mortiser, then did complimentary angle work with chisels from each side. Right?
Beautiful stolls brotha from a beautiful person you a big inspiration in my look at the remodel of my own home and a way of being harmonious in every day life keep your head up and I hope you achieve everything you are striving for
I wonder how you’re going to make a living when you have a kickback that cuts into your hand and fingers? Why would you take those risks when you have kids? I’ve seen three people in shops I’ve worked in over the years take off fingers doing exactly what you’re doing on that table saw. Pure genius. Two words: PUSH STICK
Hey Samurai! Tis the season of seasonal woodworking. You've inspired me to attempt to build a set of these. 1. They are beautiful 2. I need an excuse to purchase a quality template router bit 3. I need an excuse to purchase a shaping wheel/disc. All of which leads me to ask a simple question. Do you have plans available for purchase? Design and joinery seem simple enough, but looking to support your journey! Cheers from Manitoba
Great to see you back in the workshop Very lovely seats! Quality work as always One question, all your work benches look quite low, is it not a strain on your back? Massive Respect from Aotearoa, New Zealand Be Kind 😀👍🏼

Something therapeutic about watching another man create beautiful furniture like this. Keep it coming pal.

The stuff you create is a work of functional art. :) Beautiful and well made.
5:16ish.. wow! Such an awesome technique that I would never have thought of but keen as to now try!!
your little wedge jig for the bandsaw is genius, thank-you. Great chairs too.
It might be old school but sometimes old is gold. I'm sure your long-time viewers will love it.
This my friends, is love. No other word describes it. Some may call it joy, but even that falls short. Beautiful.

So nice to see you back in the shop. Thoroughly enjoyed the steps of making these stools. 👍

Love it. Nice design. The foot rest is awesome. Such nice details throughout.
Damn it’s good to see you back in the shop. Gorgeous stools!
Absolutely fantastic result, BEAUTIFUL! And thanks for introducing the Japanese saw. It is so handy to use, even for someone with arthritis.
I love that design. The seats look like Maloof chairs. Great video!

The Samurai comes home....Oh, Jesse, these stools are things of beauty! Stick with the old beat up ones for now and save these for the new house!
I truly don’t think this man understands how much joy he bring to people…
Thank you Jess 🇦🇺 🦘

The only thing better than your work is YOU.
You seem much more content in your own skin now, I hope that really is the case.
Have a great day mate
beautiful schools what a great job thanks for sharing
Very nice work! I wish Sapele would stay that color in time. My projects have darkened so much that the grain has become quite difficult to see.
Perfect-Beautiful color. Well done!!

Beautiful stools. I understand why you used the oil finish but for a bunch a small boys I would have chosen something different.
He's still got it!
Maybe someday way off in the future someone will find one of these at a garage sale and marvel at they’re simple beauty
How about a link to the mini belt sander? make model?
Amazing piece of wood 😊😊
