I love everything about this, especially the synths
overall great mix, as time goes on I find myself falling more in love with synths and metal guitars in the same song

Yeah, definitely check out more of this band, they'e fantastic. Makes Bad is easily my favorite song from them, but I also highly recommend 148 and Wasted if you haven't heard those already!

As someone who's not only listened to a lot of metal but also has a brother who does music, holy shit I cannot imagine how long it took to get the scream vocals down.

Not long actually! I taught myself how to do it over the course of a year or so back in college. The hardest part honestly is learning how to do it properly without hurting yourself, but I have a decent understanding of the technique these days. People seem to think I'm pretty good at it too, and I actually think I'm much better at it than clean vocals lol
