I would stack gold bullion if given the choice, but when it comes to pre-33 gold coins, I would also love to collect those it is just that they were never on my radar to collect, but as I get older and wiser I would have to start buying those to help diversify my stack and preserve a piece of history while I am at it! Great vid Surfer! 🤙🏽
It depends on how it goes down. If countries fall and there is no electricity, after supplies and food and water needs, weight will be all that matters. Purity may even not matter as much. If the governments are intact, they have proven to confiscate gold many times over. At least in the US, pre-33 is excerpt from confiscation. When the rich decide to go back to gold they historically go for the collectibles and that drives up price, especially if a confiscation is announced. Why not have both if they cost about the same price? As for bars, that depends on the size. Anything over 1oz is too much wealth in one package for my needs. For countries and Central Banks, their needs are much larger and bars are the most convenient for them. It’s all about the trade off between form, function, and cost. The key is to not get hung up on what you’re buying or attached to it. It’s just money after all. Buy low and sell high or hold for the next generation.
@SalivateMetal I love that coin a lot. The $5 Indian is my favorite design it’s less elegant than the St. Gaudens but the way it’s included is so cool. 😎
love the old gold. PCGS 3000 hints that premiums on pre 33 will do better over time than spot, so if you trade in future, it doesn't have to be for dollars but maybe dimes and you will get more. love andy.
My first stacking purchase of gold was a 1924 Saint G double eagle and a 1932 Indian head eagle. As soon as i had them in my hands it clicked why holding gold - or silver - in your hands feels so dang good. My father had gifted me a set of 6 pre 33s, two $1 coins, two quarter eagle (one IH, one lib), and two half eagles, again one IH and one Lib. So now to complete a set of the most common Pre 33, I just need the liberty eagle and double eagle. Pity the gold page for the Dansco type 7070 is so incredibly expensive itself. But I may go with one of those plastic put them in yourself type display pieces.
I do have an eye on graded pre-33 gold. The collector in me is buying for my type set first and low MS coins work for me. After that, i treat it like building any year/mint run and if i get to the point where i only need a key date, i may splurge to finish it.I have a dealer who gives me good deals. Getting that much money at one time, not so easy. BTW, we should always keep in mind the $20 coins are not full oz of gold so I think we should take that into account. Even high AU coins are great if you get them close to spot.

There are different reasons to own different pre-33 gold coins. The most important thing with raw coins is ensuring they are real. There are a lot of fake raw pre-33 coins. They will test as a 90% gold coin because they are real gold but they are fake re-strikes. I only buy raw from a dealer that knows and guarantees the authenticity. I recommend MS61/62 for the base as they are priced most closely to bullion. I avoid MS63/64 but MS65 in a less common date can be good as more of an investment. They are higher priced but should appreciate more. But keeping with the lower grades is safer until you really get into stacking them. Then mixing it up with some more rare coins can be fun and rewarding. Just keep in mind pre-33 is a good 5 plus year hold.
I haven't bought gold in a long time but back when I was stacking, I would always buy Pre-1933 coins if the price was right. The dealer I used to buy from would run specials like melt + $15 per coin. Keep in mind that the Pre-1933 coins are not an ounce of gold. The $20 gold coins are actually only .9675 of an ounce so you're not getting the same amount of gold as a full ounce coin made today. This dealer in particular recognized that and calculated and priced off of the melt value plus $15. That was a fabulous deal for me. He'd do the same thing with the old world European coins like Ducats, Francs, British Sovereigns, etc. Melt + $5-$10 per coin. I didn't care at all, I just wanted as much gold as possible. Those coins aren't as recogzizable as fractional Eagles but the premiums on them were next to nothing compared to the high premiums for fractional Eagles. I always snagged up those coins.

Speaking personally, I honestly couldn't afford a full once of gold but could be interested in smaller denominations, which pre 33 gold coins are under a ounce?
Pre-33 comes in $1; $2.50; $5.00; $10.00; and $20.00. The amount of gold in pre-1933 US gold coins varies by denomination, as the weight of gold depends on the coin's denomination: Double eagle ($20): Contains twice as much gold as a gold eagle Gold eagle($10): Contains twice as much gold as a gold half eagle Half eagle ($5): A $5 gold coin with a gold content of 0.2419 troy ounces
I HAVE A QUESTION. IF THEY CONFISCATE THE GOLD AND SET THE "FAIR" PRICE FOR IT, WILL THE PRE-33 COINS HAVE A RELATIVE VALUE OR THEIR VALUE REMAINS SAME AS BEFORE?? CAN SOMEONE WHO KNOWS ANSWER THIS QUESTION PLEASE- THANK YOU!
Ok, I have Lynett Zang on in November and we will cover this in detail. My understanding is historically, gold is confiscated and then revalued months to a year later. That revaluation apply to all gold. Pre-33 is the only gold that is currently exempt from confiscation and some believe that the more rare and graded coins are even safer as the definition for “collectible” is vague. I guessing the ones that make the rules have graded and will keep them exempt. In the 70-80’s when gold did its last run, pre-33’s multiplayer was much larger than what gold spot did on its own. So think on cycles. With that said, there is no guarantee that a confiscation will happen. we also don’t know if it’ll be in the form of physical or IRAs or just paper gold on the derivatives market. It could also be a windfall tax or limiting how many you can or how many you can trade there’s lots of things that can happen. I plan for all situations. My Gold: fractional for SHTF, bullion for wealth insurance and easy to liquidate, pre-33 for confiscation insurance and fun history collection, low minted modern collectible coins for fun and flipping on eBay, bars for selling at coin shows and eBay. Not financial advice but what I do.

When we go through the world reset do citizens care about pre 33 or graded bullion? Why are countries buying gold bars not pre 33 or graded anything?
