They're actually MORE LIKE the classical mythology vampires than usual for pop culture. Sunlight doesn't kill vampires. That was straight-up INVENTED by Hollywood for Bela Lugosi's Dracula. Sunlight just strips them of their supernatural abilities. From dawn to dusk, in the light of the sun, a vampire is NO DIFFERENT than an ordinary human. They lose the speed, the strength, the durability, the shapeshifting... all that. During the day, a vampire is VULNERABLE. And they know this... which is why they always hide during the day. They would prefer to sleep to pass the time faster, but a vampire is only capable of sleeping in the soil of their own grave. Additionally, a wooden stake does not kill a vampire, either.... that's another Hollywood oversimplification. What it does, is TEMPORARILY take the 'un' out of their 'undead.' A vampire that has been staked is not dead... they are merely stripped of agency. They are conscious, they are aware of their surroundings, but they have no more power to do anything than any other corpse does. In effect... staking them is giving them SLEEP PARALYSIS. If the stake is ever removed, or if their corpse rots enough that it would fall away from where their heart would be, they would IMMEDIATELY reanimate. Staking a vampire is really just done to make the REST of the task of destroying the vampire (usually beheading or chopping up, burning, and scattering the ashes in a river) much, much easier by removing the factor of the vampire's generally strenuous objection to the idea of being destroyed.
Gotta say, I remember as a kid, rabies was explained to me like a warning I shouldn’t heed. Like, it’s not as bad as it truly is. Then I watched Rec as a teen and saw the bit of “How do you treat rabies?” “There is no treatment.” I became infinitely more terrified of rabies after I learned if you wait, it’s too late lol.

How do you teach a dullard, like me, something? Repetition and driving interest. Honestly, my interest in the cinematic biology becomes a fun investigation into "what if", which I love. It uses science, as understood today, at a strangely higher level than I can recall from college. The repetition due to things going back to the same DNA explanations reinforces. The movie draws interest. Plot summary is entertaining as hell. This is GENUINELY good entertainment. Probably better than anything else I've seen in the past few years. (Shout out to Boldemorte!)
I find that most of the time these days, if you are seeing a vampire, the story is probably going for this "biological vampire" + "supernatural vampire" archetype for a hybrid of the two concepts. That is what it seems like to me at least. Very rarely now is there a purely biological vampire or a purely supernatural vampire without some mixing of the two types.
