  • Limoncello is a delightful Italian lemon liqueur that is incredibly easy to make. This perfect summer drink is made by soaking lemon peels in high proof alcohol then, after allowing sufficient time for the lemon peels to macerate, adding simple syrup. Limoncello was developed in southern Italy along the Sorrentine Peninsula in the early 1900’s. Everyone seems to have their own recipe for making limoncello. This video demonstrates the POV Italian Cooking version of limoncello for which the feedback from those lucky enough to receive a bottle has been outstanding!

    Try adding a cube of ice to cut down on intense alcohol. I find it helps a lot and makes it so much more enjoyable! 🍋

    Wow great info! So is it possible to adjust more simple syrup after tasting it months later? Or you just have to remember to add more next new batch?

  • @Skye7W
    @Skye7W 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Also, simple syrup for this recipe can be made with lemon juice (from the next months batch when you are harvesting the rinds) and if too tart make your simple syrup with three parts sugar to one part lemon juice

      No. Just no. Unless you have no taste buds because that would taste nothing like limoncello.

    That's Everclear for ya. It can't be bought in Maryland anymore because we have a fair number of idiots that evidently wouldn't read what not to do and did it.

    Did you use half of the marinated vodka you prepared for the clear limoncello and the other half for the creamy?

    I have seen recipes where you wait 45 days for peels to soak in the alcohol. If you add more peels, do you think it would cut down on the time it takes to make the base?

      Limoncello from a store is terrible & doesn't even resemble the taste of homemade.

    I followed your recipe and I made 1500ML of alcohol with 16 lemons in one jar. then I separated the alcohol/peel into two separate 750ML.. IYO do you think the two 750 ML have the same alcohol/peel consistency as one 750ML with 8 lemons?

    How long can the creamy type be left in the frig?

    • @PovItalianCooking
      @PovItalianCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The creamy type can be left in the frig for a couple weeks. However, the high alcohol content keeps both types of limoncello from freezing, so just store them both in your freezer. The colder the drink the better it tastes!

    Would it be possible to give the portions of all the ingredients, either for the simple or for the creamy?
    I'm Portuguese and I have a hard time understanding spoken English quickly.

      Yes! I have a short video on my channel where I talk about substituting oranges for the lemons.

      Then you have a Gran Marnier type treat! See my comment on the simple syrup. His has too much water.

    • @joseymour2574
      @joseymour2574 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. Just no. That would change the taste to a lemon/vodka cooler type of drink which is nothing like limoncello.

    Did you forget to add the lemon juice?

    • @joseymour2574

      That would destroy it. You're thinking of a vodka cooler type drink -- not even close to limoncello.

    Simple syrup is two parts sugar to one part water, heated until all the sugar is dissolved. Too much water just serves to lower the alcohol content.

    Italians only soak the peel for three days.

      Not if you read Italian recipes online. It is done a thousand diff ways but you will taste the difference if not soaked for long.
