Swift Orientation Day 1: What They Don’t Want You To Know (Unedited)

- I finally have a trucking job and that means having orientation again and this time it’s with Swift Transportation! Follow me and I show you my journey to being a Truck Driver. #trucking
I had the same experience with Schneider. I applied for an opening then they told me I would have to take a role partnering with some other driver, and that I could not get out of that situation as long as I worked for them. I went with Swift. Just as with you, Swift was much more attentive and in the follow through. I have not started yet because I had some things to take care of before starting. I stayed in Harrisburg PA terminal for orientation. The breakfast was decent; many options available. My only gripe was the guy they had me sharing a room with, was not the cleanest person hygiene-wise and snored like an animal, I had never shared a space with a stranger before, and really don't ever want to do that again. The guy was not a bad person, just not self aware that's all. I only needed to stay for the one day orientation. I am looking forward to go on to training after I take care of my matters at home. Overall though I got a good impression of their onboarding process.
What up and thanks for watching this video. I’m happy with my decision to work with Swift. I’ll be honest I didn’t have a lot of choices. Not many companies would take me because I didn’t have any experience. I think only 4 or 5 companies trained or took drivers with no experience.
@@iamdesmondcassell I would have been grateful for any company that is willing to put their reputation on the line helping people of all races and backgrounds to get their start in a new career. Very few companies are willing to do what Swift does for new drivers. I applied to many different jobs where I was in many cases overqualified for the role and after putting me through hoops and rings of fire they would then hire someone else. Swift isn't playing those games. HR people all over the US pretend they have some secret sauce to hiring and yet most places are full of idiots-savant that haven’t a clue what they are doing in that role, and people quitting left and right; because these recruiters are the buffoons that need to be replaced. Anyhoo, with Swift it was get your driving basics (CDL) together, or we can even help you do so. I will do my best to make my experience there worth it for the company and for myself. Great content Dez !! Just curious are the trucks still stick shifting? My dad was trucker for 15 yrs after retirement from. Navy , he developed a hip problem from drive shifting for do long.

How much money out of your pocket did you spend, to get cdl and everything? And are you under Swift tuition or program where you have to repay all within your work with them? thanks
I just got hired on, how long did it take you to get a mentor after being hired. I got hired at the lancaster location, im a female. I told them i dont mind male or female, just a non smoker.
Did you get paid for training and did they pay for the hotel
Yes and yes. They provide food for lunch as well. Training pay is $700
Did you get your CDL-A before going or did you go to their academy?
I got my CDL school before Swift.

I mean they’re pretty much the same thing. From what I’ve seen Swift Academy looks effective

Yes. Everything is paid by them
I already have my dot physical but not my drug test will they have me do both or just my drug test?
Well I already had a DOT Physical too but Swift wanted everyone to take theirs. 🤷🏾♂️ No biggie tho

Not too hard it you have to study. They will fail you if you don’t know your stuff
@@iamdesmondcassell look I put the classes back 3 weeks just so I can watch videos I rehearse the pre-trip when I'm by myself I also watch a Swift video about pre-trip inspection every night and test my mind to see if I remember the phrases I read read read and I watch many videos about truckers I know by driving a 5500 with a 18 ft tandem dump trailer that you definitely have to watch and control your trailer at all times speed is what's going to keep you going too fast is best to pay attention to speed limits and a whole lot of other things
Did they do the hair follicle test at orientation or was it done prior to you getting to their facility?
Yes, it was done prior to orientation but some others got theirs done at orientation as well.
3/4 of this video its blogging, like 1/4 was kind of helpful and still dont know what they dont want me to know.

I only did theirs. They made all the appointments. I just showed up

No sir. Thats what happened to me. I had all my stuff done before I got there but it made my process so much faster.

Hi how many miles per week after finish training and how much per week drivers make when you be solo
I was getting 1K miles a week for the first two months which added up to about $500 a week. I didn’t break 2k miles a week until my 3rd month

Facts. 48 cents per mile. I was told that I was lucky to get that
.@iamdesmondcassell wat 48 cents,,they told me 44 cents so ur lucky,, I'm in the gray hount bus now lol..going to Dallas for orientation, 9-10-24,,,hopefully everything turns out good for me, they told me they will Start me at 650 per week till I finish training, then .44 cents per mile.,hopefully I like it,,,
