Great video and great review, but please consider having the bumper music play only once at the beginning and once at the end. The new video format seem to play it a ton and it gets a little repetitive. Anyway, that's meant constructively! I love your videos and channel. Thanks for the great content.
I randomly saw the white box edition at my FLGS, and thought "what the, there's a new edition?" haha. But I agree that this is a great Feld game, quicker playing but still has the crunchy decisions and variability built in. It also feels more deterministic, since almost every choice is made by the players instead of luck of the draw. Thanks for the video, Dan!
Also my favorite tile-laying game, it's brilliant ! To be honest I think graphic-wise I still prefer the first edition, it's certainly not worth buying this as an upgrade for sure. And my first edition also doesn't have any misalignment prints of the tiles like your seems to have big time. Pretty odd they still can't get things right after 3 editions.
This is definitely in my top 3 Feld's. But this new edition? Ugh... So the backs of the tiles are very easy to tell apart now. That's great!! The brown and gold buildings are much more distinct, fantastic! But I challenge anyone to play this version and not have to double check to see if you're taking a farmyard, garden or vineyard tile at least once during the game. And telling them apart on the frames? Even worse. As an additional bonus, one of the frames has a printing error where I believe there's a farmyard or garden (I forget which) where there should be a vineyard (this is compared to the first edition of the game). C'mon alea!!!
I felt the same way about this..shot up to the top of my Feld list. Unfortunately the terrible graphic design of the 1st edition was a detriment. In the wrong light we'd mix up the brown and yellow buildings. Looks like this edition will be a purchase for us. Sorry if I missed it in the video, but did they keep the cards as victory points in this version? I didn't mind it for this game..just curious if they switched to tokens or kept the cards.
Awesome game. And even though the graphic design is a lot better than the 1st edition, it is still bad. I can only imagine this game in the hands of a different publisher like Stonemeier or TMG (who Feld collaborates with sometimes, i.e. see the deluxe Luna version), or just .... like anybody else really. Not to be mean, but I think Alea uses art school interns (or maybe dropouts even) for the graphic design of their games. I have made custom cards on Artscow that look better than some of their stuff. The one nice design element with this game are the goals on teh left side of the board, 5:54 in the video
I gave up getting the nicer looking edition and will just have to be ok with my (second edition?)gray box that has slightly too dark graphics. It just needs to be graphically lightened up. Also, it has no “star” in the middle, or even arrows like in the white box. You just go left or right like in the white box edition. However, I purchased a white box edition that was even worse. The graphics were even darker than this one, to the point it felt like the game was set at night. I’ll just be happy with my edition and know somewhere, there is a slightly nicer one.
I've seen some people really want it back, and I've seen others not really care. It's also easy enough to house rule back in, so IMHO it's not the biggest deal.
at first I thought I would miss it too, but once I played it a few times the new way, I don't miss the star at all. Also as mentioned in the other comment, you can easily go back to the star, there is the star pattern you can print out and overlay if you wish: www.boardgamegeek.com/image/5940316/giraffeninja But yes, great game. Not Burgundy great, but in his top 5. Also feel like Amerigo doesn't get enough love.
@@Vypper7 I Love Feld discussions and preferences ! I love AquaSphere the most still, but is followed by Amerigo and then Carpe Diem. Burgundy for me is a little bit further up on my favorite games of all time list as my 5th Feld favorite, with Merlin in between, still in in my top 30.

Yes they kept the cards as points.

It’s like Uwe and Stefen had a love child
Seems like a pass. I stick to my In the Year of the Dragon as my Feld :-)

I don’t understand why Alea games look they way they do. They’ve always needed better art direction.
it cannot possibly be Feld's best game since it is worse than the older edition which had the star rule which is superior...

What is the star rule? Do you mean the crossing movement path?
