What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
Hell yeah. LeSean is an inspiration through his art and even more so when you hear him speak. What an asset to the animation world.
Thanks man. much appreciated!!! Stay up, brother!
Needed to hear this today. Frustrating when all my hard work seems to be for naught and it feels like I'm a treadmill going nowhere. Thank you for the inspiration. Bless
Hi wow its good to see a brother a man of color reaching to his goals and being successful
This was great! The quote at the end-LOVE IT! You have to be willing to do what others won't-to achieve what others don't! LOVE IT!
Who's here after Cannon Busters? 🙋🏾♂️
meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Lol me
I've been struggling to learn something I've dream of doing and it's just heartbreaking cause it seems hard and I keep on failing and made me thought that it might not for me but I've also thought that maybe it's just a test and if i'd really want to pursue my dreams then i'd have to keep on learning through failures.
These kinds of talks or topics is so motivating and made me want to pursue my dreams even though it's seems possible and others might thought that it's crazy.
Creative minds create dreamers which create happiness in a world full of searchers. I love it! Thanks for sharing!
LeSean Thomas Yo man, I don't know if you remember me, but I used to work at Game Express on 32nd Street in the city. I saw a link to your page via Kahleem's website and I was looking at your Wiki. Never knew you had reached the level your at now. Really proud of you man, hard work has definitely paid off. And also a great Talk as well, I really enjoyed it.
15:10 “you have to be willing to do what others won’t to achieve what others don’t.”
It's not about "hard concrete stuff." this isn't an introduction to animation production. it's about using failure as a method for growth. Taking a big leap of faith out of your comfort zone. If you're here to learn about how animation works, then you've missed the point entirely. Thanks for watching.
ya. still learned that Simpsons is animated by koreans.
Now the Mr.Sparkle episode makes perfect sense.
amazing video , i remeber him saying that to someone else" nothing worth having comes easy" and do wat other people wont do to get wat other people dont have" i learned that the hard way...
As an animation student struggling to find his place in this weird work world, this really resonated with me. Thanks.
Any improvements care to share
He's the stone that builder refused.
He also made lady sing the blues.
@@Mangazimusic Also the spark that makes ideas bright
@@styl3k1fry are you by any chance referring to the same spark that lets you know your left from you right?
Man if that intro video doesn't inspire you idk what will, Way too cool!
a mind-blowing lecture! definitely looking forward to your future works even though i'm illiterate in cartoon. keep up the good work here.
Thank you for post man, much respect. It's kind of weird to find someone who made my "exact" dream a reality! I never heard of you until a couple of months ago after looking up the producers and animation studios responsible for the Boondocks.
Keep doing what you do man, you're a true inspiration.
Love, LOVE his work! And I just need to keep telling myself that things are either going to get better, or I can jump ship...
Thank you!
+LeSean Thomas
Thanks for inspiring us)
So now you might have a bit more understandings of how much international students struggle in the states.
Yeah, I don't know how those guys do it.
NOTHING HAPPENS if you don't try
Im not sure which part he's talking about " the reason why Korea can't have a creative people" in this video, but the story is a motivating one!
LeSean and TED. Two great tastes that taste great together!
Great presentation LeSean. Very inspirational. I love Korea btw.
As a Canadian animator who went and worked in China for two years I think there are some misconceptions. You can work as an animator in North America, just probably not doing drawn animation. You will be working on the computer either doing 2D animation on ToonBoom or Flash or doing 3D animation. It is drawn animation and coloring that is sent to Korea. If you want to do lot's of drawing you can work in the design area of animation. In general animation is now competitive and lower paying
Thanks for the encouragement man.Sometimes it is worth it risking things for your dreams indeed, and taking you for example, no matter how crazy it sounds :D
Very inspiring
He wasn't saying that their food was bad, or that they were impolite. About the food, when you completely stop eating the things you are used to, and regularly start eating things so different from the norm, your body wont know how to take it. Youll get sick like he did. About the hospitality, he didnt speak the language, know how to read it, or anything about it pretty much. When you live in a place where you dont understand anything and get lost everyday, you arent gonna have a good time.
Massive respect LeSean! Thanks for sharing your experience
Man this was inspiring LeSean. Keep pushing man, you have amazing talent.
what, one of my biggest inspirations speaking at Ted,that's what's up!
FROM TINTON AVE TO KOREA DROPPING KNOWLEDGE, VERY PROUD OF LESEAN MAN
I NEEDED this.
Neo micheoseo? 너 미쳐서 Are you crazy?
Thank you for explaining this for those of us that don't know Korean!
can't believe I just saw this now. Great video Great video @LeSean Thomas
Lesean is a genius...Les is more yo!
Thanks so much for your enthusiasm, bro! Good luck this year! :D
The thing I learned from this talk on failure is, to make sure your nose is clean before doing any public speaking!
🤧🤧 I just finished cannon busters it was great
Great video! I love Lesean's work!!
Lesean Thomas truly a inspiration for aspiring animators. I call him the King of South Korea :]
Also does anyone know the anime @2:05 ?
I don't think the food thing was "talking crap." That's just something that happens with drastic transitions such as his. Plus he probably wasn't making a ton of money and didn't know where to go for really good food. Cheap food will make you sick no matter where you're at.
The legend says.. he never came back from south korea
This was more or less "Hey let me talk about myself and hope someone gets to use this for help"
wow i'm so proud of you ^^ i love your story just follow your dream 3
Real life superhero
Still can’t believe this dude is Sanford Kelly’s brother
Very inspiring!
Beautiful
Fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing this. :)
Thank you for inspiring)
This video was very inspiring! Please, put english subtitles, I got a little lost in some parts, it's hard to find a video like that in portuguese. Here in my country it's hard to find something related to animation.
He didn't explain why and how he persuaded himself to stay, or how he overcame the negative thoughts. Speakers always skip the most valuable part.
He said Rhyu or his friend motivated him to stay.
great video
Good thing he didn't actually say that then, he stuck to facts and simply said, he was sick from the food transition and felt home sick as he could not communicate. You should listen better.
I pledged on his Cannon Busters Kickstarter and realizing he made a Tedx talk is very revealing.
Truth.
What was the name of the guy he mentioned in the video? The something young? and also the name of the lady whose president of "one of the best animation studio"
What is the name of the song in the montage?
thats crazzy
This is the measuring stick for those that don't know
I'm here after Yasuke
I don't think it's the fault of the industry as a whole. It's a an endless cycle at this point. Where are the animation jobs? Korea. So where are the good animators working? Korea. So where do you hire from? Korea. The industry won't die because you have buyers and sellers... just not in the same country.
But if you want the game to change someone would have to change it. Someone would have to open an animation studio in North America with in-house animators and start putting out sick work.
What's name of the beat during the intro? Reminds me of Nujabes.
soundcloud.com/beatsbyned/smuthe
thanks brother.
what does the korean phrase he keeps repeating mean?
"Are you crazy?"
Aaahh, thanks!
안녕하세요
so what does that phrase means? (sorry for the poor spelling just writting what it sounds like) "no misujou" ?
Google " SMUTHE, beats by NED."
nun mee-cha-suh means "You are crazy" which can be translated by context too :D
Though it is a positive post, understand that that is also racism. You should be excited for anyone to reach his goals...
Brandon Hoffman what are you talking about?
have you managed to find the song that starts at 1;05?
you are wrong
nun mee-cha-suh means "Are you crazy?"
Greetings sir, The link to your page please?
what is that song pleeeeeaaaaaase somebody tell me
pleeeaaassse can someone help does anyone know the song that starts at 1;05 thank you
if anyone knows the song that starts at 01:05 please gimmie a shout
LeSean did not answer his own question on why America outsources it's own work. LeSean is right in that there is no market for animation in Korea so why is America sustaining animators in Korea? It seems to me that America is putting up the money and risk and still the future of Animation is doomed because Americans are losing their animators. When the market for animation dies than the entire industry will go. Why does America shoot itself in the foot?
haha no only good animators like LeSean Thomas make good money. The majority of animators get paid very little.
"we all know what this is right?"...."woo!" yeah, they all know what the Simpsons is lol
This sounds more like ole dude was stroking his ego more than encouraging those people. Its no wonder why they weren't clapping and excited like most TedX talks I've heard and seen. We get it, you're a world renowned animator producer whatever... eh whatever means I watch nothing of his so therefore the value of this video for me and I'm pretty sure others too, isn't too high.
I wanted to quit this video after 10 seconds
my life is a lie i thought they where american cartoon
Wtf
The legend says.. he never came back from south korea
so what does that phrase means? (sorry for the poor spelling just writting what it sounds like) "no misujou" ?
are you crazy?
maddguild thanks!
