    I’ve used Sidi’s for years started using them when I raced and yes the sizing seems to be different to other makers. Narrow and they seem to be on the small size, but I have never had a problem with them and they are hard wearing. I don’t suffer with cold feet I just use normal cycling shoes with two pairs of thin socks. It’s my hands so I wear what I call fozzy bear gloves bought for me by my daughter. Interesting video cheers

      There's a lot of variation in thermal regulation! For a couple of winters my dad used some Caratti Hotfoot overshoes - fleece-backed neoprene incorporating a rubber sole, which cleat users had to slice open with a craft knife. One year he got them jammed in his toeclips and couldn't get his foot out.
      He liked his 'boxing gloves' too.

      Cheers, Michael. They're a niche item but reading comments here and on Strava, it seems a lot of us dread the onset of winter foot numbness.
      The cold snap gave me an early glimpse of how the boots can handle sub-zero temps.

    Interesting video Gordon, I remember watching your ‘keeping your feet warm’ video last winter and at that time I looked seriously into buying some boots but never did, looks like may have to revisit that thought !

      Last year's low-cost approach based on £30 shoes with layers of plastic, closed-cell foam, and foil worked well for cold, dry conditions but on wet days it became a bit of a headache having to strip off the layers for drying only to reapply them for the next ride. The Frosts lack genuine sub-zero insulation but they're better able to cope with rain and haven't needed forced drying.
      Not cheap, but if they're everyday cycling shoes for 4-5 months of the year then it's not too bad.

      @@clippingin1593 I agree, realistically they’ll give years of service with careful use and given the cost of some cycling gear it’s not that outrageous.

      Cheers, Terry. I can't fault them for performance so if you can sort out the sizing then they've got the potential to be first choice shoes for 4-5 months. I'll be wearing mine 'til Easter!

      It's their 'Polar Reversible'. Fits into a small bar-bag or medium seat-pack, 320 gm incl stuff sack, good warmth to weight ratio. Worth a look.

    I've had a couple of different "boots" but have found the restrictive ankle movement difficult to live with. I was out on Tuesday this week at minus 5C before wind chill in Central Scotland where standard cycle shoes with windproof overshoes and socks kept me just about comfortable. As you said, fortunately these conditions are rare for us.

    • @clippingin1593
      @clippingin1593  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I fluffed 'motorbike boot' and said 'mountain bike boot', but mentioned the fore-aft motion and ankle restriction with high-top boots. That's why I think Sidi have used flexible neoprene and left a small space even when fully tightened.
      I've had a similar experience to you with sore shins or bruised ankle bones - similar to my early mountaineering experience walking into the corries in fully rigid plastic ice-climbing boots...ouch.
      Looks like all-change by Saturday evening with double-digit temperatures returning..... then I'll find something to complain about.

    I have a love / hate relationship with sidi , loved early sidi’s , revolution rider and genius than mid nineties the fit and sizes went out the window , definitely try them on before purchasing if you can find anywhere that has them in stock.

      @@chrissanders1027 it's good practice with all sports footwear. It's even more complicated with cycling shoes - In the video I mentioned mail order Northwaves which 'fitted' but wouldn't take my cleat position.

    I have these exact boots i find the fit good but the "insulation" properties non existent as you said ,wind blocking is total though also water comes through the bottom cleat mechanisms unless you plug them up with something. They were also bloody expensive. If i had another chance at buying a pair I'd go for lake's winter MTB boot instead tbh.

    • @clippingin1593
      @clippingin1593  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That's very interesting - cheers for the long-term feedback. I'll be using neoprenes on start-to-finish heavy rain days, but I'll keep an eye on the cleat cavity.
      I saw a few Lake boots at a similar price (sub £150) during the summer but I've no experience with the brand and don't have a local stockist. A lot of forum comments referred to their strange sizing conventions with some Redditors recommending 47 for a 45 fit - which struck me as pretty wild as I'm already at the top-end of most cycling shoe charts.
      It helped to push me in the direction of known-quantity Sidi.
      I paid £126 - less than half RRP - so any impressions re: value for money are going to be coloured by that outlay.

      @@clippingin1593 I have lakes winter SPD-SL shoes and the sizing was bob on for me at a size 50 they are wider than sidi though at standard sizing and then they do a wide fit also. Don't get me wrong the sidis are excellent the power transfer is fantastic and I find them comfortable I just didn't expect with frost in the name that was what your toes end up doing in them. I use hot hands foot warmers and that seems to help quite a lot . At that price you got a total bargain.

      @clippingin1593  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@zedddddful That Lake sizing info' is good to know - thanks. If I see them reduced then I'll take a punt on 48 - they could be useful if I go back to the Tatras.
      You're right about 'Frost' being a misnomer, the Sidi 'Algor' with primaloft and snow-gaiter look to be better suited for seriously cold riding. I think they're fairly new so price reductions will be thin on the ground for a while.
