- We escaped the city for another weekend get-away to Southland, NZ. The Eyre Creek 4WD track is just over an hour from Queenstown and provides some great chances to get your truck muddy. This is another solo adventure, yet I had no problem tackling anything that came our way. Being short on time only allowed us to get into Shepard Creek Hut for the night. From the trails the led from the hut i suspect you can get further up the valley. Although I can't find any details on this. Guess that means I'll have to get back to explore it all again soon.

Have to complement you on great work. I watch a lot of the 4WD Action or 24/7 which is very high tech but I think yours is more enjoyable because its in NZ. Well done and looking forward to future ones.

Went on a trip straight after lockdown, lost traction in some mud and over-revved it. Now it's sitting in a shed with a rather bad and loud engine knock ae. Still deciding what to do next with it.
the surf is a great vehicle if you just let it take you where you want to go and don't push them top video bro
It honestly is. Can't say its the best outta-the-box 4WD but it is definitely a capable, comfortable vehicle perfect for NZ

And now this track is closed sadly due to some people in there 4wds disrespecting the area as what the doc website says
Unfortunately for all of us, you are correct. Simply searching Eyre Creek on TH-cam will show some of the cause. Other causes was abuse to land owners from 4WDers. I completely understand why it was shut down but very unfortunate that it has. Hopefully in the years coming we can rebuild relationships and re-open the track.

I haven't been able to make the track since I filmed it. But, with every track i've shown on youtube, it has had alot of interest since then so I would think its passable just maybe rougher.
Track is now closed due to dangerous and disrespectful behavior. The few ruin it for the rest of us again
You didnt carry on up the valley past the hut? the floods really did some havik on the main track, alot of the big bogs are up past the hut i think
Had to bomb it back out to town the next day so we simply just didn't have time. Will be returning to check out the damage some time. Should make for an epic part 2 of Eyre creek.
Dont get me wrong we go on all these track on bikes with motors but 4x4 just wreak them😢 4:12 4:17
This track has been closed for a couple years now. Due in part by both 4WD and bikes. The general disrespect to the farmer and his property is what ultimately closed it.
Dirt bikes are just as bad when it comes to trail damage, and can often be worse when it comes to off-track damage yet it is often not talked about.

Unsure of the brand, Mum got it in some giftware store on the west coast ae! But you can find them on Equipoutdoors for around $100 and that's where i'll be buying my next one.

What sort of mileage you get on your truck bro? Looking to buy my own one.
It's the petrol version and honestly haven't really counted yet. At a guess i'd say like 400km per tank .. ish maybe. I'll have to find out now haha
Any ideas if you can take dogs up there.
Hmm haven't looked into it but would pay to check as you are crossing a station to gain access to the river/hut

NZ Topo 50. I have both the South Island and North Island.

What’s the setup on the new rig?
1996 RZN185 Hilux Surf. 3RZ-fe petrol. Basically stock, Just has a 2" lift in there and a set of 32" muds. Seems to be enough for most things at the moment but plenty more to go onto it.

@@febsie No snorkel yet. Difficult to find a driver side one for a petrol. and yes to diff breathers. They should be standard practice on any 4wd

I don't believe I did any messing on this track. I stuck to the main lines and barely spun my tires. If i did get stuck, It was a quick recovery using recovery boards. I did indeed have a good night though.
Why did you switch to the Surf from the Jeep?
Got a bad engine knock after lock down. With no money or job to mend the issue I had to flick it off for what i could and sue that to purchase the Surf. Its also a more relatable vehicle for alot of people.

@@andrasbalogh3344 It has its place. But if i still had the jeep I would only now be able to rebuild the engine and start getting content rolling again

Picked it up with 2" lift and 32s for 6K. Then had to replace the clutch for $800 and the rear storage has been pretty much free. Roof racks are off a Subaru I think that I hacked up to make fit
