  • "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." Mt 5:9
We've heard the Sermon on the Mount from Matthew 5 many times for sure. But do we truly understand what it means to be a peacemaker? What's involved in making peace?
Today, Fr. Mark-Mary offers a few very practical tips for how to more fully live out this Beatitude in our daily lives.

As someone who takes on the "mediator" role on a frequent basis, this episode resonates like no other. Being the bigger person can be very difficult, especially when I forget to look to Christ for example and motivation.

Excellent! And when you do this you are not weak. Some may say you’re a pushover. No, It means pride does not make peace 👍❤️🐩

Blessed are the Peacemakers. I don't think there's an exclusion clause for the internet. 😃 Be kind. Especially to those you disagree with. 💗🙏💗

      Colossians 1 KJV
20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
      1 Peter 1 KJV
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
      1 John 1 KJV
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

I often pray that we can learn to just be in His Love. What is so simple too many choose to complicate. We know where this comes from. Let us pray hard & deeply in His blood.

It's the difficult but accurate point. I began doing this in the last couple years and I have never felt better. The most liberating words someone can say is "I don't know" and "I am wrong". Don't be a pushover, but humilility is powerful

Hi Fr. Mark-Mary. My brothers and I are in the same situation. One is very bad tempered and likes to accuse me of wrongdoings, the other is a big liar and is addicted to gambling.
I've wanted to get a priest to intervene in this matter but my brothers are too proud to admit their wrongdoing, especially the older brother.
I'm not in speaking terms with him at the moment and I'll leave it to God to deal with him.
I've really tried but whatever I say or do is something for him to find fault and get angry with.
This is the problem of having many siblings with big age gaps. My older brother is like 20 years older than me.
But all the dealings with the problems my parents face with the neighbours, I have to deal with alone. All of my other siblings will not even discuss about these problems with me.
    God bless. +

I have been struggling with gossip, your words on gossip were really helpful and I will definitely be reflecting on that. Sometimes with habitual sins it's easy to know what your doing is wrong but it's like how do I even approach breaking the habit? So thank you for the virtuous habit change advice!

For some of the lowest among us, I’ve heard it said, “If you take the low road, I’ll meet you there.” There is no peace and no hope, only betrayal and despair. What poor, unfortunate souls who refused to extend peace when it was offered.

But what about Mt 10, 34-39, when Jesus said to his disciples: Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."
Does this imply that conflict can, or even should be sought in the name of Jesus Christ and his gospel?

He’s not talking about being a pushover. Speaking the truth in love is ALWAYS the goal. Depending on the circumstances, that “truth in love” might break a cycle and bring peace, or it might appear to bring conflict… but God can work all things to the Good. Just check your intentions behind your words and actions. Are they creating conflict for its own sake (from pride), or speaking/acting in Truth for the sake of love (humility?)

Can I ask a question, in war can Catholics kill other Catholics? Because today I was thinking about all the wars that have happened in Europe over history and how many Catholics have killed other Catholics? Shouldn’t they put the church before their nation?

    • @spaceforgrace3312
      @spaceforgrace3312 ปีที่แล้ว

It's a good question- but I would ask, 'Should Catholics kill anyone, let along just Catholics? All human life is precious to God but war is part of living in a fallen world. Find out about Aquinas and his idea of a 'just war.' Soldiers kill other soldiers- but what about soldiers killing innocent people? It is a complex moral argument fraught with difficulty.

Who in their right mind could believe in and worship a god who gave the green light to chattel slavery as the Bible god Yahweh did in Leviticus 25?
44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."
Owning people is always wrong! Slavery is endorsed in both the Old and New Testaments. What's worse, the Bible has been used for centuries by evil Christians to justify and perpetuate chattel slavery. There is NO WAY a real god would have anything to do with this evil! Certainly not a good god.
