Great donation drive. St. Jude’s truly does god’s work…we do donation drives for them and Toys for Tots every year. Now, do one of my favorite D1 Hand Cannon. The best Tex Mechanica hand cannon ever made with one of the most annoying quest steps ever (7 headshot kills with Imprecation in 1 crucible match): The First Curse.
Which is my fav you asked? In Destiny 1, I liked original Thorn more before it even got buffed. It was a questionable buff considering its power. I dropped Thorn for House of Wolves' TLW, where it hit 111's only on hipfire. In Destiny 2, my answer is modern TLW. If the gun is too easy to use, or too lethal... then it becomes the only gun in rumble which is a snooze fest.
Destiny 1 original thorn was my first exotic. And honestly, if it had been made to be First Curse but with a Dot, I think it could have stayed in its original, 6 bullet in the mag, low handling, low stability form.
Thorn is solid, the last word just had all the things to make it like that the thorn has to be used, the gun itself is the cause of the snoozefest as you so eloquently put it, crimson is similar, a pulse pistol that will snipe you post catalyst. Start long and push in when possible, unless you're forced too
I remember when ‘Luck in the Chamber’ was ready it made a certain sound. So you could shoot at a wall until the sound rang out, then you knew you had the extra damage. Also it had two extra damage rounds so on occasion you could have two extra damage shots in a row which is what made Hawkmoon so deadly.
The way the perks worked, you could actually have the extra damage bullets take form on the same bullet, so if all three were on that one bullet thats what made the one tap.
@@fort809 it made a sound when it was ready. Maybe when it was fired too but it did make a sound when you got to those rounds. CammyCakes made several videos on the subject. Hawkmoon wasn’t the only weapon to have that perk but the only one to have multiple LitC rounds.
I still remember wanting Hawkmoon for so long since Y1, only to be disappointed when I realized it was more suited to PVP. Funny thing is now D2 Hawkmoon essentially became my favorite PvE Hand Cannon.
One minor thing: Hawkmoon and The Last Word were reprised in The Taken King, and TLW was actually STILL busted beyond belief because they buffed the hell out of it's hip-fire to make people stop ADS'ing with it. I remember they ended up nerfing it again because people were getting too good with the hip-fire and consistently 2-tapping people.
I had gotten thorn incredibly early in its lifespan and my friends actually thought it was a gun that wasn't meant to be in the game yet and freaked out.
On Playstation, it was Thorn vs Hawkmoon in trials for sure. Shotguns and pocket infinity were so good i barely saw last word used in trials and I was doing triple flawless for months when it launched.
I loved precharging PI around corners in PVP everyone on my fireteam could hear the charging too and then pop people started dropping. Never got a Hawkmoon unfortunately.
I loved D1 year one a lot, I have a lot of nostalgia for that time. I knew it was a problem but I was never really annoyed that much with last word or thorn because I used Red Death
Hawkmoon was my first exotic weapon ever, I got it from the first chest in VoG and I never used it in trials but I used it all the time. It had the most ridiculous range when it first came out. It was so fun to use.
When I first did the strike to get thorn, the one hunter in my lobby melted the boss before we could kill the required knights so we had to run the whole thing again.
I never had TLW but I remember Thorn and Hawkmoon in their prime, crazy days. In D2 now I'd say funnily enough they all are much more balanced but I think Thorn is probably the best.
1:32 lololol Also loving the moments of the face cam, makes the vid feel a bit more personal and it just creates a more intimate experience. Keep up the amazing work!
My friend and I used to run the Last Word and Thorn for the trial of Osiris, he uses the Thorn to reduce the enemies health, and I finished it off with my Last Word
looking back, i see how fun my thorn quest was. playing iron banner with as a bad player with way too high sens and kindled orchid(still have the roll in my vault), and playing chasms of screams with two russians i met on titan
I never managed to grab Thorn or Last Word, so Hawkmoon is by far my favorite gun because it is the first exotic I ever received. I loved playing with the gun and I used it all the time. I loved seeing all three of these guns return in Destiny 2 and I feel like they managed to redo Hawkmoon's perk to where it is actually fun to use.
Back in November 2019, I did the Savathun's Song Thorn version on LFG. I found a guy who had been trying to SOLO the damn strike, he had got to the boss by himself but it took him 5 HOURS, then he had to ask LFG for help. Me and some other guy joined, took another hour to finally beat, but the guy was so unbelievably relieved, I felt so happy for him. I still have the screenshot of the Activity Summary screen, 6 hours, 5 minutes and 12 seconds. The dedication of that guy was insane and I hope he's doing well now.
I always love seeing guns whose lore are significant or was important to the game like the enemy race weapons where I just imagine a guardian killing a vandal then picking up the trace rifle and saying “yeah that’s mine now
Ive always liked hawkmoon, even if its exoticness was rng based, it was ironically the most reliable handcannon out of the 3. Plus i loved its aesthetic and i was the only one in my fire team lucky enough to own one so i always rocked it for the flex.
Genuine Evan is best Evan. Idc who your sponsor is, how long your videos are, or how long in between each vid, you are an awesome DestinyTuber and deserve our views and time!!! Can't wait for your thoughts on 30th Anniversary and Witch Queen when they come out. Keep up the good work!
Quick correction, Last Word's model is used for top tree (path of the outlaw) of Golden Gun, Eyasluna is used for the other (path of the sharpshooter). If using Celestial Nighthawk, the First Curse model is used.
Thorn was my first exotic in D1 & i was a day 1 player. It was also my favorite exotic & still is. The lore behind it, the looks, the bullets, and most importantly the sound it made. The sound is something i would never forget & it jus had so many iconic features. To me thorn was my guardians personal exotic. I enjoyed TLW a lot, bit Hawkmoon i think may have eluded me or I got very late
I LOVE your videos. Your takes are super interesting and the angles you take in approaching the lore, combined with real world player reactions/complaints/actions feel so comprehensive in explaining the full Destiny experience. Please keep up the very fine work you do. You’re my boy, blue.
Omg savthuns song striker brings me back. That was so fun trying to solo it when I was too afraid to go on lfg then finally doing it when I did get lfg. It was fun very challenging and rewarding.
Last Word's damage perk in Y1 resulted in 111 damage, which is where the meme of 111s started in the comp scene. This perk also was glitched for the better part of 9 months to sometimes activate on ADS as well. This and Thorn's dot were finally adjusted/fixed in Taken King. During the time, counterplay in 3v3 boiled down to quickdraw blink bladedancers or firebolt/thorn sunsingers. The latter had to play around burns from thorn and firebolts cancelling out due to conflicting dots. It was a very interesting time to play D1 pvp with a lot of emphasis on a well rolled matador 64, party crasher+1, longbow synthesis, or shadow of veils to eliminate the frustrations that each exotic presented. Thorn users needed a shotgun to combat Last Word's TTK and TLW users needed a sniper to combat Thorn's two-tap. Probably the most yin and yang metagame we've had or ever will have and part of me slightly misses it.
D1 was my 1st PvP experience. I never expected to get Thorn, abandoned quest a couple of times. Had no void primary, no void rocket with tracking, couldn’t snipe or shotgun effectively. Eventually got a Final Rest ii fusion and managed to grind one out on all 3 toons. Was so worth it.
Even before I got Thorn in D1 it was my favorite gun. Just the concept of it, the lore and the design were unlike nearly anything I’d ever seen in a FPS before
I've been waiting for you to make this video for so long. Love looking back at these days. Edit: Thorn has been my baby since D1 launch. I freakin love that gun. If it had a tracker on it in D2 I'd have probably over 10k kills with it in crucible. Maybe even over 20k
I still remember that special Savathun's Song strike, my friend and I kept getting wrecked, until I had the idea to pull out rat king. He doubted me but the invis cheese actually let us do it (and that gun will forever have a place in my heart because of it)
The Last Word in D1Y1 had a glitch where the Hipfire bonus would consistently apply to ADS shots. Mix that with the gun's original feel, where paced shots behaved more or less like a regular hand cannon for accuracy and range (and don't forget, Y1 hand cannons had comparable to scout rifle falloff), and you could two tap from across the map with it.
Thorn was definitely my go to… it felt much more forgiving and also felt so cool knowing it took forever to get it. I had all 3 in their prime and I loved trials at that time:) it was all a meme
I've said it before, but The Last Word was the gun that got me into Destiny. My friends would always talk about it and Destiny 1 during lunch in high school, and eventually I got curious enough to ask them about it. They told me, and it was always something that I would think about every now and again or whenever Destiny came up again. This legendary(or, exotic, as I'd call it now) revolver that was the most powerful weapon in the game, or at least, that's how they described it. It sounded so cool. Fast forward to me starting Destiny 2, and I knew from the beginning that I wanted the gun. I didn't know how to get it for a very long time, up until honestly Season of Arrivals. With things going away, I wanted to obtain as much stuff as I could, Last Word included. A very, very long Crucible grind later(with some help from a friend who is far better at PvP than me and knew how much I wanted the gun and I owe him so much for this), I finally acquired the weapon that got me into the game. It was a very surreal feeling. I hardly ever take the gun out of my inventory to this day. I just hope that Bungie gives Last Word a buff on PC, because outside of Lucky Pants right now, it doesn't see much usage in PvE, which is what I mainly play and it's honestly tragic that I don't use the gun that much
was a d1 beta player and still very active. being said i got last word on my first week after full launch and still love it to this day and have never stopped using it even after nerfs!
I got the Last Word exotic quest in the first week year one. It was an absolute MONSTER back then. Pre any nerfing nothing could beat it. It was deadly.
I still find it funny how this is the most popular Destiny story, but it also includes an element that was majorly retconned later. Being that it was retconned that you had to die to becoming a Guardian. Because originally, Shin Malphur was just a child who a ghost latched onto, no death required. But then it was retconned later that you HAD to die to become a Guardian, so they made it so he died as a baby, got a ghost and became a guardian, then very soon after the ghost died, so he was now an alive baby who was not a Guardian anymore until later in his life when Yor's ghost became his ghost.
I remember Thorn getting buffed right at the start of an Iron Banner event. I still remember running Thorn, found Verdict, and Deviant Gravity-A in Iron Banner. (On Titan of course.)
When I started playing D1 and finally found that there is a terminal that you can look at exotics with in the tower, I saw thorn and thought 'this gun looks so cool, it's gotta be the best gun in the game'. I started playing at taken king so... Yeh I was just amazed by how cool it looked. I eventually got it, and I don't think I used any other exotic on that specific character.
The Last Word was my absolute go to! I loved house of wolves meta the most out of any D1 or D2 meta, going flawless the first day of trials is still one of my favorite destiny memories. I only played about two months of Taken King and just quite the game cold turkey because crucible was absolute trash when taken king dropped. I came back for rise of iron and hopped on the luck in the chamber palindrome train.
The good old days. Hawkmoon was literally my first exotic back on Ps3. That gun was so damn good. Along with a Matador 64 that had [Final Round] and [One in the Chamber], and the extended barrel perk. Disgusting loadout.
Lumina is by far my favorite. It's only ok for most people but man, when you combine it with middle tree solar on a Warlock and now Boots of the Assembler the nonstop heals and damage buffs makes you and your team unstoppable.
I'm proud to say that I got both the last word and thorn via their quests when they were possible to get. I loved using last word until I finished the ace of spades quests. Then I just used ace of spades
Guardian vs guardian beef is the best!! Especially when it’s tied to a certain weapon that too when its a handcanon! I really hope Shayura has something in witch queen because lately there is a lot going on about her killing other guardians
Gjallarhorn would like to have a word . Yeah 1. Gjallarhorn 2. Telesto 3. Hawkmoon 4. Last word/Thorn 5. Recluse 6. Lunas howl/ Not forgotten 7. Ikelos shotfun 8. Lord of wolves 9. Pocket infinity 10. Icebreaker 11. Vex mythoclast 12. Fatebringer. 13. Falling guillatin/ dark drinker 14. Anarchy 15. Mountaintop 16. Beloved 17.eyasluna 18. Suros regime/ hardlight 19. Felwinters lie 20. Midnight coup 21. Uriels gift 22. Izanagis burden 23. Erintil 24. Swarm of the raven /love and death 25. Chaperone 26. Bygones/blast furnace 27. Red death 28. Breachlight 29. Kindled orchid 30. Breakneck I rank this on you'd hear stories about them even years later and know what people are talking about.
The D2 thorn quest was such a grind. Omg I was rushing as well bc the strike and quest was being sunset, and I had to solo the final strike (worst gaming experience of my life it took hours)
It was pretty poetic that the two guns that had a lot of bad history together in the lore, eventually became staunch rivals in the Crucible. It was as they were meant to be (Big Last Word Fan btw, used Thorn right after its buff, then I got TLW, and literally NEVER looked back. When private matches came out and me and my friends would 1v1, I wasn’t allowed to use Hand Cannons or Shotguns because they couldn’t compete if I did and the Last Word may have been the #1 cause of that)
Great video, Evan. I've only played D2 since it released. I use Thorn with necrotic grips a fair amount. Then I'll change it up and run lumina with a well build. The last word is what I'll use more in PVP. I don't use Hawkmoon often. I do miss using the rose, though.
Going flawless in the first trials with TLW and the Efrideets spear I rerolled 101 times to get short gaze, snapshot, and final round was probably the most fun I've had in competitive gaming.
In D1 i loved using Thorn, until it was nerfed. Never used LW in crucible but used it in PvE and it was okay. In D2 my go to exotic hand cannon, and one i'm surprised didnt make it into the vid, is Ace of Spades. This thing has been a beast since Forsaken and has survived everything that Bungie has thrown at it. Where other hand cannons have fallen by the wayside, this one has continued to be counted among one of the best guns in the game.

i was a kid who absolutely banged out abusing burn. I remember playing trials with sun singer + burning solar nades, sun breakers and obviously Thorn
I love how hawkmoon is just in the middle trying to get everyone to get along
It was Hawkmoon, never played with something else in year 1. And it was me first ever exotic i ever got.
Thanks Evan appreciate the hard work you put into these videos can't wait to see what you do next
The thorn quest in destiny was the reason I met one of my friends who I still play with today... that must've been over 6 years now 🥲
The video that got me into Destiny was the Last Word and Thorn from Byf, and I'm shocked so many people don't know about it.
Omg the red vs blue reference made my day, especially with the early release of halo infinite
Hawkmoon! It was my first exotic in D1 (got it real eally, like midweek 2) and I just can't help but love it
Really wholesome stuff evan, keep up the great work!
Last word was my jam. I remember it's perk was bugged letting you hit 112 every now and then.
In all my years playing D2, I think Hawkmoon may have been the only exotic handcannon quest I've done that didn't tempt me to call my therapist.
The Last Word was my first ever exotic weapon and while I absolutely loved how cool it was, the day I got Hawkmoon was the day I never looked back
The good old days. Hawkmoon was literally my first exotic back on Ps3. That gun was so damn good. Along with a Matador 64 that had [Final Round] and [One in the Chamber], and the extended barrel perk. Disgusting loadout.
I went to Rhode Island Comic Con the other week and got a replica of Thorn and it’s great.
Lumina is by far my favorite. It's only ok for most people but man, when you combine it with middle tree solar on a Warlock and now Boots of the Assembler the nonstop heals and damage buffs makes you and your team unstoppable.
I had all three. But something about landing headshots with hawkmoon was so satisfying and the range was crazy. Good times in D1
I play on pc, I find last work EXTREMELY rewarding when you get that 3 tap on a 225. It’s my favorite
Hello I'm one of the 3 people who use stadia. I am surprised you mentioned it.
Always waiting for your video! Love it as always!
The throrn strike is one of my all-time favorite D2 activities as a solo player.
“Which one was your go to. Thorn, Last Word, or Hawkmoon?”

@@cbandit7715 Hawkmoon should be lower than Thorn/LastWord
Icebreaker is wayy too high
Mountaintop > Gallahorn imo
icebresker probably formed pvp and pvp meta lot
The D2 thorn quest was such a grind. Omg I was rushing as well bc the strike and quest was being sunset, and I had to solo the final strike (worst gaming experience of my life it took hours)
Btw thorn has always been my favorite as a console player. It's just so cool the anesthetics the perk lore everything is so cool
I miss rose sm
One of the greatest bits of writing in all of fiction
Going flawless in the first trials with TLW and the Efrideets spear I rerolled 101 times to get short gaze, snapshot, and final round was probably the most fun I've had in competitive gaming.
I honestly only use thorn for pretty much every activity. Even raids until I need to swap for damage walls.
Thorn is Bae if you use her right
Its Great in VOG too
@@johngancarcik5682 so I've heard. I haven't tried VOG yet but that's some good info
man my all time favorite even before playing Destiny is The Last Word since design unique cowboy type animations and story loved it
Going Flawless week 1 of Trials with my Thorn is my favorite memory from D1
Chad HC: Thorn
Virginia (bc YT offended by other word) HC: Last Word
CHANGE MY MIND LIGHT LOVERS!
Found the average Thorn fan
lets go evan! hyped for big vid.
Yeah the rayquaza reference seems pretty correct 🤣Love it.
