Achieving this amount of horsepower and torque from a 4cyl in this size of car makes it really a blast 2 drive..The AWD is great with the DSG Transmission...

    15 litres per 100 km?
maybe you looking at the current usage up a hill.
I have never returned more than 10 litres per 100 kms in my Golf r mk 7.
usually 8-9 lites per hundred kilometres with some performance driving in a DSG Golf R MK 7 using 98 Ron.

Excellent review, thank you. I wish it was longer; I bet you'd have some interesting things to say about the interior, noise, etc. Anyway, have you by chance driven a 2012 gti? Of so, how different does the R feel?

+Ersan Seer Better late than never with our replies. Sorry for the delay. 2012 GTi won't compare favourably. Different chassis and not quite as sure footed at high speed in tight corners. Still, we prefer the regular GTi Mark 7 to the golf R. The GTi is damn near faultless.

Ordered mine about a month ago. I do about 35,000 km a year, but I'm fed up with diesel. I wonder how long before I regret this decision!

Conor Quinn You absolutely won't. Life's too short to drive crap cars.

Conor Quinn I got one love it.
Takes some time to learn all the gizmos.
Like headlights that come on when it rains automatically etc.
Or rear wiper that comes on when you reverse in rain.

My delivery date has been delayed by at least 2 months, apparently they have been overwhelmed with orders.....grrrrr!
I guess that's what happens when you massively up the specs and drop the price by 10k. I'm sure It'll be worth the wait.

Conor Quinn I waited 3.5 months. VW will never confirm the delivery but when it comes they will not leave you alone and set up payment as expected.
You should try to learn all the gizzmos now.
Hang at yor VW dealer and do test drives and ask questions.
Ask about Traffic alerts Suna subsrcitions, and ask if they can activate Voice Recognition.
Make sure you have the maps put into your SD Drive for your navigation.
I Scotch Guarded the inside my self .
I didnt get paint protection but feel its worth it.
The rain may slide off easier.
But I got Lapiz Blue, not a good color for dirt but great when clean.
Prepare for hard work if you want those fat wheels clean.
Might payt to get premium car wash stuff now.
Or be friendly with a really good place that uses air to clean the dash not a cloth etc.
You will need to work out all the settings and there are many.
Pays to go through it with dealewr before you leave the lot.
      Remember the car is low.
      Watch dips and humps.
      You have an electric brake.
read up if your getting DSG on dos and donts.
Get a copy of manual 400 pages NOW!
Cheers the car has risen 1k since I bought it New Years Eve 2014.

I guess 15 litres per 100km isn't the best for a golf. But my Outlander does that just driving normally around town. So if I get that in a golf by thrashing it, that's ok with me.

WiseGuy02 We like your logic. The thing is to not over think it.

      WiseGuy02 Typically 500 kms I use 47 litres in my Golf MK 7 R.

+WiseGuy02 I'm getting 11L/100 driving it hard, not sure why these guys are getting 15 litres unless they're at the race track pedal to the floor all the time.
