One thing made me think after seen the picture of that weapon. If that sitting on the take off part of a carrier how the hell the jets could take off or land?. LOL
They need no fewer that 2 per side. Overlapping fields. The cannons need basically grape shot. Basically huge shotgun shells. The Abrams M1028 Canister is devastating. Make the tungsten shot 12.5-14 mm in size and have the cyclic rate of the weapon up to 3 rounds a second. Instead of trying to hit a missile with something that has the cross section of 20mm, cause no matter how you put it, it’s still just one 20mm bullet flying behind another 20 mm bullet. The canister would put up an actual metal wall of metal that would be teens of feet tall and wide. Burn off 3-4 rounds and the natural vibration of the barrel would offset the shot slightly from the previous shot filling in spaces that naturally occur as shot goes down range. So instead of trying to move a 20 mm bullet into a vector to hit the missile, you just fill the air , about half the size of a football field, with .50 cal tungsten balls.
Really liked this one. 75 big rounds per second is always impressive to see - and hear. Can either side use torpedoes? And can the US ships defend against torpedoes?
This idea of a missile killing gun was born during the Falklands War, when the UK realized that NATO warships had no defense against Argentina's Exocet missiles.
The Falklands crisis was in 1982 The Phalanx system the missile killing gun origin idea was "born" 11 years prior to the Falklands crisis. It first tested on a US Navy destroyer the USS King in 1973. But it did not do very well, but it passed and completed all test in 1977 on the USS Bigalow, still 6 years ahead of the Falklands crisis. In 1980 the USS Coral Sea was the first aircraft carrier to be fully equipped with the Phalanx

It is mentioned in the video and there have many improvements. Like the ammo for one used to leave a real cloud of smoke hanging around the deck.
Also used on the A-7E, F-14, and F/A-18.
He said that it's been in service since the early 80s. It's talking about the improvements and the recent use.

US's Phalanx is still 6 barrelled 20mm?
Other navies are using 30mm ones with better range and stopping power. Like Goalkeeper or 11 barrelled 1130
