Weighs the same as a xc mtb. Not saying it matters too much for performance, but it's gotta feel a bit sluggish while climbing and accelerating if you are used to a lighter bike. I had the previous gen emonda sl5 and it was the heaviest "climbing" bike. Great geo, but a chunky bike.
From what I see this 3k frameset also comes without seatpost which is another 300 USD so you pay 200 USD for groupset, wheels, saddle, handlebar and stem.
I saw one of these in my local Trek shop and took it for a ride just to see how it felt. Outside of the being a bit heavy, it rode very nice even out on the really crappy parking lot behind the shop. You are correct, throw some new wheels on it, and it will improve this bike so much. The shifting, what can I say, flawless for mechanical.
The carbon frame on Madone is better than the Domane .So whats up with the prize ? The Madone is better, so why pay so much for a Domane .I love my Domane 2020, but I couldn't buy either one ,anyway 🫤
yea but customers dont want rim brakes right now they want disc brakes and integrated, I am telling you from experience of selling bikes daily in my store I have deals on bikes right now with external cables and people want internal
I've heard ppl have toe overlap issues with it in a variety of sizes, but toe overlap is just part of owning a superbike like this. I've had the Gen 6 and 7 (both 58cm) and each had the toe overlap issue unless on a 25mm tire. You just get used to it.
Sorry man I did a ~15lb mechanical Ultegra build on a 900g Chinese frame for less. And that includes a power meter, carbon spoke wheels and obviously custom ergonomics. All these big bike brands gotta get away from these goofy builds and just go the component way. Offer this build but also offer the frameset alone for like $2K and allow people to pick all the components.
yea this bike is aimed for entry level, a lot of people looking to get into the sport are not looking to do all this work they want convience and help from stores, not every person out there is a die hard hobbyist, They just want something that works for a value compared to the market and support from shops when needed, that goes for any hobby its like me with computers, I build my own computers with better specs then stock pre built computers but the average consumer does not want to dig around with there wasted time figuring out what works and what doesnt and build it themselves, they just want it to work with a warranty and will pay more for that convince and time savings
yea there or 5.8 doesnt mean that new bikes need to hit that criteria but I mean at least give companies room to have and not be hindered by that weight limit
You pitched it well, Grant, looks like a great deal and I can understand the stealth look, sort of a one-color-fits-lots deal, tho' I'd probably add some STP stickers or something for color, lol. And I saw that locally at a curio shop, a classic schoolgirl bike with about 25 little STP stickers all over the frame, the days.
Was looking at this bike but its absolute joke in terms of price. Final decision was between Ridley Fenix and Merida Scultura. Ended with Scultura. Already have swapped handlebars, and upgraded on carbon wheelset (0,5 kg down on weight in combination with new brake discs, tpus, new tires) and i am still under the price of this bike (shitty alu wheels and everything basic). Higly doubt that this frame makes almost 1k+ $ feel difference.
I can see the value in this like you said, it can get someone into this bike at a low cost and upgrade as you go instead of just buying a frame and looking at it sit there until you get the components. I would like to see a Tarmac at that price as well. Many are complaining at the price but high price is industry wide and there is nothing that can be done about that.
Everybody crying about the price. Can't win with you people. You poo pooh the Chinese bikes. Reality check the prices have gone up, deal with. Or keep riding what you have, or save your pennies.
Man the comments here are lit! So much knowledge and experience that its almost more fun to read the comments than to watch the video. Personally, this is a great buy. But, boy there are a ton of better buys out there. That is, if you know where and what to look for. But most entry level buyers don't have much of a clue, so they are enamored with the brand and hoping for the best. Trek should offer this bike with a nazzy paint job. Like race red with white lettering. That kind of panache is not only hard to ignore, but hooks a potential buyer early in the sales cycle. If I was building a frame I'd start with a WinSpace frame, Chinese hoops n bars and go from there. A $3,500 budget might be hard to meet, but at least I would be getting a full blown n gloriously fast race bike at 16 pounds or less.
Good price. Mix this with some super team or yoeleo wheels and you have dropped a pound, increased aerodynamics etc. Good value. Those wheels are 1700+, put in a 1300 gram wheel set, almost a lb. just there. Then you go tubeless or tpu tubes will save you another 100 grams. The wheels weigh 360 grams a piece. Putting Corsa on size 28 weighing 260 grams and that’s another 80 grams saved a piece for another 160 grams. In short for about 1000 you can save almost 700 grams. Puts you at 4500 for the bike with a second set of wheels you can have as a trainer or sell for 100 or 200 bucks. And of course if you splash out a couple hundred more you can get No. 6 wheels which are far and away best well priced wheel on the market.
If you like your old bikes, keep them. Entry-level riders will upgrade as they go anyway. It’s part of the fun. Also serves as a good spare bike where you can move wheels from your A-bike or old bikes when you want. Train with the alloys. 105 mechanical shifts as good as previous Dura Ace mechanical and you never have to charge it. Costs of everything sucks nowadays. Relative to everything else, this bike doesn’t suck.
I Think Trek did an absolute amazing job for this price point on this bike, people will say its heavy or talk about wheels, but This frame is the same frame you would get on a $6000 bike from them and have a complete bomb proof reliable group set as well to go with the bike all for $3500, it is a great bike for osmeone looking to get into the sport and grow on or for someone who is looking to upgrade from an aluminum bike and does not want to be hindered by components or frame quality in the future, being that it is 12 speed you can upgrade the shifters and derailers to di2 if you want at your leisure, or just add some carbon wheels in the future and the bike is literally a whole new bike without compromising to buy a new frame because you bought a cheaper entry level carbon bike somewhere else.....

Man, that looked like a workout weighing that beast! Just kidding, great review Grant!
That was a review?
hahah Thanks so much!!!
hold on I got you..... "roll b roll footage of me riding bike, talk directly to camera, "bike rides extremely nice....... the bike responds so well, super vertical compliant, but stiff when you need it..... absolute weapon and surgical when putting down power.
review done
They should put some paint on it at least in that price, lol.
I don't trust that seat post setup. I wouldn't buy that bike at any price.
Cube sells the agree with carbon frame, deep carbon wheels, ultegra di2 for 3300€; how can that trek be a good deal?
Just buy an Emonda, this thing is a joke
Do you know if it's too difficult to make the upgrade from 105 mechanical to Di2 later down the road? I bought a 105 mechanical equipped Orbea Orca because the Di2 version was only available in colors I didn't like, so I look forward to upgrading in the future. It's great that you get to review lower end bikes too!
I mean its a normal frame strip but the good think is you can keep the same crank bb chain and cassette
@ thanks man!
I still cannot see madone in that design. Definitely rushed to name it madone and get rid of the SKUs. You can sell everything with proper marketing... I guess - gen7 fan
The Gen 7 Madone is so much better. Let's call it what it is, this Gen 8 Madone is really an Emonda.
@@marshallalexander4329 well coming from the Emonda I absolutely love it! No horrible big tubes
I don't know how Trek are still in business. They make shit for value bikes.
Through axle tool? You mean a hex key? Like I got on my multi tool?
Specialized Athos was on sale on bike24 in Germany for 2300e, also r7100 groupset and some meh alu wheels. But for the price it was an amazing deal just for the frame.
900 Series OCLV Carbon on the Madone SLR not 800. 😊
I bought an entry level 105 road bike in 1991 for $500 including clipless pedals. This one seems far in excess of inflation, even considering technological improvements.
Agreed. I raced up to Olympic trials level in the US for 31 years. Never paid more than $3k for any of my bikes.
Dont finger/ isoflo the bike like that. Children maybe watching
It's good in comparison but everything is still too expensive.
All that needs is some deep wheels and it would look so sick
I have an alloy bike from 10 years ago that is lighter than that 😮
Why is arm shaking for 20Ibs 😂
idk, 20lbs is pretty light for bike. Only weightweenies brain are rotten.
@@EpiqeThat's around my bike's current weight and I'm not on performance spec yet.
I can’t believe your hand is shaking so much 😂
hahahah I worked out arms that morning and it was cold
Buying this bike is more about cult following than anything value related
2800 would be a good price
Yeeeees
What it's this 3500 for 8.60 kilos without pedals? My bike its 7.290 without pedals and it's extremely fast with continental grand 5000 the industry it's make bad bikes at bad prices.trust me that bike its not that good as if you think but you have nice reviews you are good at this I appreciate but again you have to agree industry it's going out of control
It's black. PASS.
$3500 for 105 ? Not an entry level price point
Wish it came with better wheel set. £3,500 is the new entry level road bike I guess 😢
I'm sorry but this looks like a cynical, predatory cash in on an unknowing new guy.
You seen Cube?
of course i have but you can not buy them over here in the states
From what I see this 3k frameset also comes without seatpost which is another 300 USD so you pay 200 USD for groupset, wheels, saddle, handlebar and stem.
$3,500 is not "entry level", pal.
Your entry lvl bike is out of reach for 99% "normal " riders 🤣
Wow if this is $3500 for a Madone .Why is the Domane the same price 🤔
The carbon frame on Madone is better than the Domane .So whats up with the prize ? The Madone is better, so why pay so much for a Domane .I love my Domane 2020, but I couldn't buy either one ,anyway 🫤
trek... thx but no thx I had TERRIBLE experience with their bb90 bs as well as their "support"
So what happens when you're out on your ride and the iso flow snaps bruvva? How do you ride home? Like p diddy?
Hahahaha
Ummmmm not a great business. Cube have some bikes with electronic shifting and carbon wheels and components for a similar price.
Customers getting shafted. You can get a 15 or so pound rim brake super bike for relatively cheap on the used market
yea but customers dont want rim brakes right now they want disc brakes and integrated, I am telling you from experience of selling bikes daily in my store I have deals on bikes right now with external cables and people want internal
@@GCPerformance18 im a new buyer and the internal is worth a grand to me.
What happened to the $1200 usd entry level road bikes 🧐🧐?? This is Insane ‼️
Hunt wheels, Dure Ace cassette light tires and drop almost 3 lbs!! Did something similar on a mountain bike, i was shocked how much weight i dropped.
Are people having issues with toe overlap. At least I've heard that, don't know if it's true or not
It's a thing on smaller frame sizes, regardless of the brand (for most of them).
@sbccbc7471 so shouldn't be an issue on the mediam frame
I've heard ppl have toe overlap issues with it in a variety of sizes, but toe overlap is just part of owning a superbike like this. I've had the Gen 6 and 7 (both 58cm) and each had the toe overlap issue unless on a 25mm tire. You just get used to it.
@@bebopman5same here. Toe overlap happens, but it's easily avoided and not that big of a deal.
I have Gen 8 sized medium and no toe overlap at all 👍
Sorry man I did a ~15lb mechanical Ultegra build on a 900g Chinese frame for less.
Curiously, random question
What do you think is a better or preferred UCI weight limit if there was to be any changes ?
I'd like to see 6kg.
yea there or 5.8 doesnt mean that new bikes need to hit that criteria but I mean at least give companies room to have and not be hindered by that weight limit
Thanks so much!!!
Go to Lauf, Canyon, Giant instead.
So you get a groupset/wheels/barstemsaddle for 500 more than just the frameset? Buy it, strip it, upgrade it 😂
I can see the value in this like you said, it can get someone into this bike at a low cost and upgrade as you go instead of just buying a frame and looking at it sit there until you get the components. I would like to see a Tarmac at that price as well. Many are complaining at the price but high price is industry wide and there is nothing that can be done about that.
This bike aint it
Terrible value
You need more arm exercises to make it stronger lolll
What a beauty!!! ❤❤❤
Everybody crying about the price. Can't win with you people. You poo pooh the Chinese bikes. Reality check the prices have gone up, deal with. Or keep riding what you have, or save your pennies.
I know I could make it a fortune selling Kleenex here!
People have pointed out nuermous times why this price and bike being a good value is a joke. get over it. face reality.
Lovely entry level bike. One small thing, the SLR now has a new layup OCLV 900 and not 800.
Mechanical group set doesn’t make sense 🤣🤣🤣
Very nice bike indeed, got one of blue color
LOL you added 1000 to make is passable. That's is not a good deal. Add 200 for a canyon with electronic shifting and carbon wheels. thats a good deal.
This dude pronounces SL8 as "esslate". It's S L 8.
