The REALLY Weird 130 Year History of Nintendo - How History Works

  • Nintendo predates video games by a good hundred years, having started learning about game design as a humble card company in 1889.
    Even when the fledging company was learning about game design in the playing card business it would be some time before the company settled on video games as its main source of profit.
    So what was the journey from Hanafuda cards to Pokémon cards? how did they grow the video game company off the backs of a taxi firm and when did Mario change the game forever? Well it's time to learn How History Works.

    Yamauchi is the family name so of course they are all the same name😂. Their given names would be : Fusajiro, Sekiryo and Hiroshi

    • @Clery75019
      @Clery75019 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually, Sekiryo wasn't Fusajiro's son but his son-in-law. Indeed Fusajiro only had daughters. So the husband of his elder daughter, Sekiryo Kaneda, took the name of his wife to lead the family business. Sekiryo will also have 2 daughters, and the husband of the one inheriting the playing cards business will eventually leave his family. Their kid, Hiroshi will eventually take his mother's name, Yamauchi.

    • @AlexTamayo.
      @AlexTamayo. 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Clery75019 in Japan it's not uncommon for men to take on their father-in-law family name as a way of kind-of adoption. Usually because of big inheritance, the name has more prestige, because the father-in-law has no male heir or a combination of those. My understanding is that Hiroshi was born with the family name Yamauchi.

    • @Clery75019
      @Clery75019 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AlexTamayo. Probably. From what you tell, it would make sense that his father, Shikanojo Inaba, renamed himself Yamauchi when he married Kimi Yamauchi, Sekiryo's daughter. As such, Hiroshi would be named Yamauchi from birth. Hiroshi was 6 years old when his father abandonned his family.

    • @AlexTamayo.

      @@Clery75019 My understanding is that most of the patriarchs of the Yamauchi family weren't born with the Yamauchi family name including Fusajiro, who founded the company. I think Hiorshi was the only man in that family born with the Yamauchi surname. 🤷‍♂

    I'm also aware of the weird history of Nintendo from the show High Score on Netflix I never expected Nintendo to make an entire theme park called Super Nintendo Land or make the Super Mario Bros. Movie and yet here we are. I also want to point out that some of Nintendo's past is incorporated in the video games that they made just to show how everything is incorporated on Nintendo's part. On the bright side, since I saw the Nintendo Direct I can't wait to play Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

    Just love nintendo. They constantly make such damn amazing games to buy and even at the end of the switch's life span it's still getting more games to play. Another thing I love about them and hope stays the same for all time is they don't make their system worthless like shit box and more and more with PS by moving all their games to other and better platforms. Literally do not need a shit box for anything since everything is multi platform with games on better platforms than that garbage. Sony is copying the idea of making the system pointless by making their games only timed exclusive. Thankfully nintendo keeps their games where they should only be, on their system. Want the damn game so much? Buy the system or emulate, simple.
