Thanks for this session, it made me aware that I was too late with my questions, but they were covered by others 😄
At the expense of sounding to chaperon you, let me focus on some of your talk about the bike. I did my fair share of travels through exotic countries and learned my lessons. I met a lot of people similar to you who did not bother to much what was ahead of them and just went for it. They always seemed to have the backing by a quadrillion of guardian angels who smoothed their ways. However, your approach to motorbike preparation can be regarded as.....brave, to say it diplomatically. I understand this, you are new to motorbike traveling so let me share some experience with you. A lot what you told sounds very familiar to me. But there was one thing that was kind of hair-raising. It's the topic about your chain. You mentioned that you had your chain sprocket changed in Denmark. I really hope that what you wanted to say was that you had the WHOLE CHAIN KIT replaced, not just the sprocket. If you only replaced the sprocket, you did a beginners mistake. On a motorbike, you ALWAYS change the whole kit. ALWAYS. When a sprocket is worn, the chain will follow later, and it will deteriorate quickly. In my personal 'lessons learnt' experience, it just went with a bang. What is also sub-optimal is your lubrication approach. Engine oil is the wrong lubricant, as it is not viscous enough to stay on the chain, especially in high temperatures. The only positive side is that it is not sticky and the dust does less stick to the chain. What worries me as well is your mention about the mechanics remarks about your chain tension. A too tight chain can do more harm than a loose one, but don't compare it with bicycle chains. A too loose chain can jump off the sprockets, rip or make you crash. Game over. Always follow the specifications of your motorbike. At the moment, your highest chance of a mechanical failure could be related to your chain as you have no idea how much kilometers your chain had made before you set off to your trip.
If I can make some suggestions ('if I was in your place'): 1) Have someone in Denmark purchasing the right CHAIN KIT for you. In case of an emergency, have it sent by express courier. 2) Get yourself some transmission oil (SAE 80 or 90) and lubricate the chain EVERY EVENING. If not feasible, purchase the most viscous oil you can get: the viscosity is given as xxWyy, the higher the numbers x and y, the better.
I think you were very lucky to find replacement for your wheel bearings, as you correctly mentioned, they don't occupy much space and should be in your spares kit for long hauls to exotic countries.
For the brave little Honda, don't worry about the fuel and the motor, they are pretty indestructible, just make sure there's enough oil in the bike. What could get a problem in dusty countries is the air filter although...it's a Honda. I rode with super dirty air filters and barely noticed...except when the bike rode too rich and had a bad idle. But your HONDA will take you to Cape Town and beyond...🙂
    Good luck!

During the day, get a dark coloured cotton shirt.
Soak it in water then head out for the day. Throughout the day it will dry off but keeps you cool.

Regarding your failed radiator fan, its likely a failed thermostat switch. If the fan itself still operates when you provide direct battery power to it, you can bypass the thermostat switch for the fan and use a manual toggle switch to power it, so you can just turn it on while in slow traffic. Watching from Maine, USA.

A tip that was given to me by a friend who has a place in India is to sleep under a damp towel with a ceiling fan blowing on you. As the water evaporates it cools you. I tried this near the equator and it does work. Air con is obviously better but it is an option if you want to save some money

Good video. Interesting. I like your attitude. You don’t try to please anyone. You sometimes just have to do what you’ve got to do. Nice one. 👍🏼

Can you get many if these visas before you left Copenhagen or is it best to get them as you go due to changing policies?
