As a reds fan I hear a lot of reds fans give votto a lot of hate I understand his numbers at the plate have tailed off the last couple years but for me he will always be one of my favorite players and literally one of the only reasons to watch the reds in the last 8 to 10 years.
How can you hate on a guy who constantly worked on his craft ? Fans who talk shit about Votto don't know very much about Baseball...and even LESS about hitting ! Joey was a Chameleon...he morphed into what the Reds needed at the time. When we had some big HR guys in the line - up. Joey concentrated on getting on base, was very selective ( as far as players I've actually seen play in my lifetime Joey is right there with Joe Morgan and Frank Thomas as far as having the best working knowledge of the strike zone ) and because he was so selective his power numbers went down ( kinda makes sense doesn't it ? If you're not swinging as much you're not going to be hitting as many HR's ) even at that in those years he'd still hit 20 + which is quite a feat when you consider comparable First Basemen who were primarily contact hitters like Mark Grace and Keith Hernandez NEVER hit 20 HR's in a SINGLE season ! But when the Reds were thin on "Big Boppers" in the line up...he sacrificed batting average and on - base percentage to become the "Big Bopper" in the line up. In some years he reached a happy medium where he was a 30 + HR guy and still hit for a high average and high on base percentage but that's EXTREMELY tough to do consistently. For the casual baseball fan that didn't play past Little League or HS they have NO CLUE how difficult that is to do. Hitting a baseball is THE hardest thing to do in sports...you're attempting to take a round object and meet it SQUARELY with another round object...and the round object you're trying to hit is coming towards you at speeds varying from 78 - 100 + MPH and can be made to move in all kinds of directions. To finally "master" the art of making consistent contact and then turning over your entire approach to hit for power or vice versa is something VERY few hitters could do successfully...Joey did ! The other thing I REALLY appreciated about him is this. Early in his career, he didn't come off as a "team" guy and early in his career he was a HORRIBLE First Baseman defensively. And I think a LOT of players that put up his type of numbers while playing First Base wouldn't have cared about their Defense, they KNEW they'd be in the line - up because of their bat ( this of course was pre NL adopting the DH ) but Joey worked his ass off and became one of the better Defensive 1st Basemen I ever saw ! Additionally, he became a team guy, a team leader...something he wasn't in his younger days. So when someone talks shit about Joey take it for what it is....someone who DON'T know Baseball...trying to SOUND like they know Baseball !
I was there last year when he hit his 250th home run. As a person who had just recently fell in love with the game of baseball, watching him last year (2021) was a blast! Totally unexpected from a veteran player like that! He was a machine!
One of the best pure hitters since 2000. Career OBP ranks 17th all-time and Bonds is the only one ahead that played before 1950. The plate discipline and ability to hit to all parts of the field are second to none since 2000
Captain Ahab - Yeah & *only* a mook like you would. Preferring that Votto show absolutely no discipline at the plate & swing at pitches outside of the strike zone instead. 🙄
@@why-why-whywhywhy bruh... Votto has amazing OBP because he gets walked a lot. He has amazing discipline. That was the joke. He was expecting 20 minutes of Votto taking walks because he's so good at getting walked.
Hall of famer prove me wrong

And then he kneeled for the flag. I lost all respect for him at that moment
i agree. although recently the addition/rise of Castellanos, Winker and Suarez has really pulled them together
@@ConelradCreatorEAS He was probably trolling lol

Talking Heads and Votto are a welcome combination
Love Joey ❤⚾️😍
Thumbs up if you think the music is annoying and distracting.
I thought I had another TH-cam tab or spotify open by mistake at first.
Was very annoying music.
2024 and this Reds Fan is missing Mr. Canada! BIG TIME!
Heck of first baseman
I'll never understand why people put music on these. I want to watch baseball, not hear some dude sing over the broadcasters.
Take me to the ohio river
I can't stand it when people add music to highlight reels
